Name Change. Is our old name still reserved?

I bought a name change for my ranger a while back (like a year ago) and I noticed something today on a costume piece.

Old Name: Delia
New Name: Elizabeth

On my costume pieces, even newly created ones, it says "Customized for Delia"...not for Elizabeth. Are our old names still reserved or something? o_O

No, it's just a label. The armor remains customised to your unique character regardless of what name you give it - they just don't update the customization labels on armor/weapons.

I think Spookii was asking if the previous name remains "reserved", in that no one else can make a character with your old name. In other words, in the example above, could someone else name their character Delia?

From the official FAQ:

Quote:
Q: If I change the character's name, what happens to the old name?

A: The character's old name will be reserved to your account for 24 hours, after which it will be released and available for anyone else to take.
Hope that helps!

Yes, this is what I was asking. Snograt told me something I didn't know before, but didn't completely answer my question.

Regarding Snograt's information, as the official guru page http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Character_Name_Change states:

"Equipment belonging to characters whose names have been changed with this feature will display the name used at the time of customization, rather than the the character's current name. The character will still be able to use that equipment, however, as equipment is tied to the character's unique ID number (which is invisible to players), rather than the name string."

That's what he was talking about.

Also, the page notes that:
"Equipment customized "after" the name change will display new name until the player re-zones, map travels, leaves town or exits game. The "customized for" will then display the characters old name."

Hope your question has been answered!

Also, in the future, you might want to check either of the wikis before making a thread, as they will quite often have the answer you are looking for.

Nope, not reserved.

I can confirm b/c a friend of mine bought a name change for her toon ages ago. I just created a char with the old name. Hope that helps.

One really odd thing though. One of my accounts still has her old name listed as a friend, which points me back to her no matter what. The new character I created, with the same name isn't popping up as online.

Explains why you can't make a new character with the same name and transfer the old character's elite armor and customized weapons over. Aside from the fact that this would make the game so ridiculous having max armor and customized weapons available to a level 1.

While this answers questions about weapons/armor customized, does it apply to costumes? As I said before, I changed my ranger's name over a year ago and costumes that I've bought recently (and even the latest Halloween hats) still show "Customized to Delia". Everything in the costume department (aside from last year's Wintersday costumes) have never even seen "Delia" yet they still say "Customized to Delia".

My answer technically has been answered, but it'd still be nice to know why they're keeping my old name. o.O
