Due to the popularity of last month's mAT commentary, we are continuing to cover the mAT finals. This is a great way for new and prospective PvPers to learn how GvG works, meet some top players, and ask questions!

This event will take place November 20th at 12:30 PST

Spectators should be in any town or outpost international district, and join us on Guru's Mumble server to listen in on the commentary. If you do not currently use Guru Mumble, you can download it here and set the address to 69.164.205.88

On joining Guru Mumble, you should mute your outgoing sound (microphone) or set up push-to-talk and enter the GvG Observers channel under GvG Commentary.

Join us on our IRC channel #gwgpickup at any time to ask questions about PvP and GvG, or to find guests. Our commentators and other skilled players will be taking questions throughout the event via IRC. Our IRC channel information is as follows:
You will need a program like xchat or mIRC to get into the channel, and both of those websites have setup guides. The channel info is as follows:
  • Server: irc.gamesurge.net
  • Port: 6667
  • Channel: #gwgpickup
For those of you who would prefer to not install a client, instructions for using the web client are available.

If you are unable to come or miss parts of this event, the entirety is being recorded for your convenience and a link will be provided once available.

We hope you will join us on IRC and Mumble and get involved!

Hopefully this will go well again, the announcement on Log-In should be adjusted, 12:30 PST would be the actual time

I've tweeted Arenanet. Maybe someone within TK could get this little oversight to Arenanet?

Hitsuji, the following weekend is Thanksgiving for Americans.

ArenaNet is aware of the discrepancy so it should be corrected soon.

The fault is ours as we had a miscommunication between the planning staff.

The mAT is usually the last saturday of the month. It's pushed up a week this month, I believe, to prevent conflicts with the Thanksgiving weekend (and the ingame events that accompany it).

I have to work that day but I should be able to catch the last part. Just a quick question though...does the MaT Final happen at 12:30 PST or is that when the whole tourney starts? I think I remember last month that the actual final was later in the day and if that's the case, I should be able to be there for that. Keep up the good work guys, I'm really enjoying the commentary.

If you mean same time in observer, joining same district when they say it on mumble gets you in the same obs.

If not i don't know what you're asking

its not a guarantee that every1 will be in same time when doing that

As last time, these obs were being entered as soon as they went up. So there was only one version available, so they entered the same copy of obs provided you were in international district.

Obviously if you don't enter within 2 or so minutes you could get a different obs. But entering the same time is very reliable, so long as you are in same district.

Good stuff, kudos to Anet showing some more interest for GvG lately and my compliments to the people that made this happen. I'll definitely be tuning in if I can make it.

The standard weekend bonus (ie double green drops) should run this weekend as usual if that is what you mean. As for other player-run events, I am unsure. You can find a listing of some player-run events in the Community News Forum here on Guru.

Five minutes is the cutoff. If you enter before that (from anywhere, any district) you will be in the same obs as those who started it. Enter later than that and you will start a new one.

That wasn't the case for me. My obs seemed to be delayed by 30–60 seconds from the commentary obs.

Observer instances should have been able to hold enough people for you to get in. Were you entering from the right district?

Hmm. Maybe their is a limit to how many can be in the same obs instance. Something to test next MAT.

hi errant!

im kinda happy people are trying to present the gvg mode to people who never came up with playing it. I remember my first time observing a game where some guy commented on, after that i badly wanted to play gvg.
Anyway, can some1 tell me whos commenting on it and whos allowed to talk and who isnt? At least i heared about lemming but what happens if he accidently makes it to finals?

Commentators thus far:

Asp (A well-known top player who has a lot to say in any given situation, expect lots of info pouring from his mic)

Members of GeAr (A gold-trim guild with lots of background) (This could mean a return of Angra and Joe, respectively)

Me (The guy who will be asking them surrogate-audience-like questions, such as what could the losing team done to come back, who the MVP was, etc.)

IRC Informants:

Lemming (Great source for basic GvG topics)

Just want to let everyone know that the matches will be recorded and will possibly be available sometime Saturday night.

As for the listening in, Observers will not disrupt the Commentators, as they will have seperate channels to listen from.

Here's hoping it will be an interesting mAT! Seeing lots of variations of builds out there.

Is that all a tombs weekend draws nowadays? I haven't played one in a year and half now, but they used to get like 50+ districts =\

Why would people obsing GvG matches make HA districts more loaded than usual in the first place?

This was really entertaining, thanks a ton to all of the commentators, as well as the people they interviewed afterwards. It's nice to put a voice and personality to some of the people posting on teamquitter. There were a little over 100 people in the channel.

I'm also happy we got some really good finals this time, compared with the previous two tournaments.

Honestly I thought it was quite hilarious listening to Asp call things that happened about 40 seconds ago, but I could see where that would be irritating for people trying to learn the ins and outs. You'd be looking for what in the world Asp was commenting on and it wouldn't be there because it happened 40 seconds earlier.

Overall though it was very entertaining. They didn't choose the matches I would have liked to watch, but I can't complain because they made what would normally be a very boring match entertaining. Plus the end of the finals was pretty hectic.

Are there some people who do 3-2-1 and press on 1? If not told explicitly to "Go on 1", I usually do 3-2-1-GO, because countdowns end on 0. Microwaves, ovens, and sports clocks all buzz and beep at 0 where I come from as well. If you want to be technical, space shuttle launches call liftoff after 1, but maybe the cliche applies that counting is not supposed to be rocket science.

Because that was not a clean spike we had going there. Half of the damage came early, and the Infuse hit before the rest. I was going to be calm about it, but that was the MAT finals. Gold trim was on the line. We brought in a guy from [rawr] who always wins gold capes. We had psychics who could see 1 minute into the future. We even fixed the game to be on the servers we wanted so there would be no problems with ping.

No more rainbow spike in the MAT next time. Rank 10 PvE reputation only group with no noobs. Everyone get on Eles, ping builds, and spike with no half cast items on.

PS: Saw somewhere that observer limits 100 people per chat room. Probably coordinate commentator spike before viewers.
