Emily Diehl Leaving ArenaNet
Inde
Please wish Emily all the best!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Take care, everyone!
Hello everyone,
Since I’ve worked closely with many of you on this site, I wanted to let you know that my last day at ArenaNet will be this Friday, November 19. Starting next week, I’ll be heading over to join my friends at Undead Labs, working on their unnamed zombie game.
For folks that know me, it’s no secret how much I love horror stuff. The first movie I ever remember seeing was Night of the Living Dead (when I was four), and I’ve been obsessed with horror ever since. I love Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 with a passion, but in this case, having the privilege to work on a zombie title is fulfilling a lifelong dream of mine.
I’ve truly loved my time here on the ArenaNet team. It’s been almost five years for me, and it’s been an honor to work alongside of so many awesome people – both in the studio and across the community. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Guild Wars 2 will be incredible, and that you guys will continue to make the Guild Wars 2 Wiki the definitive wiki resource for the game.
Take care,

I know arenanet is shitty, but there's no way a tiny gmaing company making a shitty zombie game could be better =\
Vulturion
Farewell, Emily - enjoy your zombipocalypse.
Nerel
^ Anet started as a tiny gaming company making a shitty fantasy MMO (look at the 2003 alpha video).
Undead Labs seems to be gathering many of the key people that made Guild Wars possible, so I wouldn't dismiss whatever they are working on so lightly.
But yeah, the Guild Wars franchise does seem to be losing everybody that made Guild Wars what it is, sadface time.
Goodluck with your zombies Emily, hopefully your face won't be chewed off in a tragic beta testing accident.

I'd imagine she's on her toes with that new series "The Walking Dead". I've watched the first two episodes, and it's by far the best TV show I've ever seen. Bye, Emily Diehl. You probably won't be missed by the fans so much [because we hardly ever interacted with you], but you may be missed dearly by your co-workers and close friends. I wish you well on your endeavors either way.

Really? Well good luck! For me zombies old hat, been there done that.
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (Borderlands) for me already did all of the zombie monster mash I will ever want. Left4Dead looks like too much work.
Painkiller Black Edition has good pacing, more variety than just zombies.
The ideal game would be Hellgate London as it should have been. But that idea has already eaten one development studio.
But if you think they've found a niche where they can attract players and make money, go for it!

Is it just me, or do we have a lot of people from ANet moving over to this zombie project?

yes, yes there is alot of people leaving anet for this. not a good thing for GW2 imo(idk if this even affects GW2 but it cant help)

The zombie game sounds dull anyway. In gaming there's no plot subtext, no irony, and nothing special when they use a concept like zombies. They miss the point. It's like if you made a movie about Dracula and his only line is BLAAAAAH I VANT TO SUCK YOUR BVLOD! 258 times, that's the unfortunate dulling down effect of concepts in gaming. Classic horror wasn't even high brow stuff but it had more going on than the simple point-click-kill the mean beastie of gaming.

GW2 is probably mostly done right now except for filling in the blanks, quests, more UI functions and stuff. I doubt it matters too much.

There has been a consistent Brain-drain from Anet ever since EOTN was released. I wouldn't be surprised if people developing GW2 are bored or don't like the direction of the game. Often the most talented and creative people want to be part of start-ups as they feel (rightfully) their ideas and contributions would be more valued in a smaller project. Good Luck with the Zombies and don't count out the little renegade games.

I wish Emily all the best with her future endeavors but, I agree...
Seems kind of like bad tidings for Anet for everyone to be leaving for Undead Labs.

So that’s another key developer leaving A-net for the TBA undead MMO at Undead Labs. You know after Jeff Strain left I thought “wow most of the founders are gone now except one.” I wonder if it was NC Soft that snubbed the idea of this game, so they left but did not talk about it publicly. Maybe it was due the fact how bad Hellgate: London turned out?
Mister_Smiley
Emily you will be missed and i hope that you will be happy at Undead Labs. So i say Good luck Emily.
Emily leaving won't bother Gw2 development at all.

Good luck and have fun in Jeff's new enterprise.

That's right. A PR person leaving totally means that Guild Wars 2 is going to fail.
. . . Oh wait.
