Update a costume for Male Characters (wedding update)
Sharkinu
The male version of Formal Attire is the same as male version of Dapper Tuxedo. So males get 2 costumes (not to mention that are very similar) while female characters get 3 costumes.
I think Formal Attire should be updated to be a different model from Dapper Tuxedo. If we paid for 6 costumes we should receve 6 costumes not 5.

How do Anet justify the cost of these costumes?
The dapper and formal are the same price, even though they're 50% the same.
Buying those 3 costumes together is 1.5 times the cost of buying 2 normal costume packs.
The wedding couple costumes are the price of any of the other costume packs for one each, male and female. That's 2 costumes for the price of 4. The whole pack of 5 costumes for more than 1.3 times the cost of 4 costumes from any of the other packs is outrageous.
Are Anet just testing the boundaries of market acceptability here? The formal and dapper costumes should be one pack at the regular price, the wedding couple another and all 5 for the same price as the halloween costume pack. That would be a fair price imo, although the costumes themselves are not to my taste. I understand you've a business to run but even for optional extras, it's pushing it for a cosmetic change.
The extra content though is pretty cool. Can't wait for it to be not broken

I don't play male characters, but I totally agree with the OP. The guys don't seem to be getting a very good deal here.
I understand that men can be a little boring to dress for formal occasions, but were there really no ideas for a third tux?

I might consider buying the new costumes if males got 3 different costumes. Not 2 and both almost identically looking costumes.
Missing HB
We're obviously getting more and more costumes( because the money i guess...). I think it would have been better if we unlocked those through quests .....
Sharkinu
Is not that I don't like the costumes. Is not that the male costumes are ugly(this is just a mater of taste). Is the fact that if I pay for 2 sets(tux and formal attire) I only get like a set and a half. I'd pay for a costume twice.
RedDog91
My solution was to only buy the formal costume. Not missing out on anything for the male versions, and the formal is the only one I like on the female characters
Sir Cusfreak
I somewhat agree about selling one costume twice, and calling it two. The big pack doesnt seem like much of a deal, to me, so I won't buy it; but maybe the male tux only, because Ive been asking for tophats since 2006, and it's worth it to me. worth is something everyones gotta decide all on thier very own.
Mordakai
Meh, I bought the whole pack without really thinking.
I like Female Tux the best, but how could I not have the wedding dress?
I agree the male should have one more option... maybe a casual miami vice look?
Ohh, or maybe some lingerie for both sexes... (actually, that could be in another Honeymoon pack)

Would be nice if the entire set was still $10 like the usual. Buuut oh well. I'm surprised that there isn't a third costume for males though, and that the male tuxs don't have much differences between them.
afaik there's a lot of styles out there for male tuxedos that three different kinds of tuxedos wouldn't be too hard at all. I'm just a bit surprised I guess. Even then they wouldn't have to stick to tuxedos though either.

Yeah, made a thread about this same issue at the other forum (and it seems it was the wrong place). So i Will just paste here what i've wrote:
So yeah, agreed. I dont play female characters, so for me it was not a fair deal with the wedding costume pack.
Quote:
No, first of all I am not here to complain about costumes being made or something like that, I actually enjoy a lot when they make new ones. What I am here to complain about is the designs. We have in the wedding pack 4 different costume names: Traditional Wedding Finery, Wedding Finery, Formal Outfit and Dapper Tuxedo. Both in male and female characters the only difference between the traditional and non traditional costumes is that one we can dye and the other one we can't. Then it comes the unfair part. While females get one unique design for the Formal and other unique design for the Tuxedo, the male characters have the same identical design at both of them, the only thing that changes between these 2 costumes in male characters is just the name of them. And the same thing goes on with the head costumes, female ones get 3 unique designs while male gets 3 hats but 2 of them just change the name and the design remains the same. I like buying new costumes , I really like to, and this one was the highest on price on Guild Wars, but I really think it's not something fair for male characters to lack designs. Yes, I know that no one forced me to buy them, but I bought and it really feels that I paid the highest price on a Guild Wars Costume pack for just some repetition on my characters. For the record, yes, I only play and only have male characters since the day 1 of my account (I did female ones, but they never get any close to lvl 20 or 1 month old and the pvp one I had was a storage character that was deleted when the extra storage was released) so I really felt like paying the same all and getting less then everyone. Well, after writing all, I just wanna finish saying that I understand if other people here dont feel the same way I do, but I just wanna make clear that for me, it was not a fair price for the costumes, even though they are really well made. |

I like the new male mesmer armor for sure. Too bad I don't roll a male mesmer.

I think y'all may be reading this whole thing wrong.
It's not "Male characters get 2 costumes, and female characters get 3!"
It's "My account gets 5 costumes."
You don't have to buy the pack once for each different character. You buy it once and can use it with all characters, present and future, male and female. It's the same price for everyone.
Now, you may have decided to only make male toons, but that's not ANet's fault -- and you can still roll a female in the future and have those 3 costumes available to you at that time.
It's like... I pay the same price for Cable TV that you do, but I only watch Comedy Central and Cartoon Network, where you watch and DVR dozens of different things. I am choosing not to get all the value I can get for my price, but that doesn't make the price I pay less fair, ya know what I mean?
So, I think that it's the same, and fair, for everyone!

Lingerie....... eh..
I could just picture it now. Girls would have some sort of corset with stockings and a garter, while guys would have smiley face boxer shorts with black socks. >.<

I'm very disappointed also.
Even if they couldn't come up with anything other than a suit, there are many, many styles of formal attire for men.
Off the top of my head, I can think of:
Mmmyeah.

Off the top of my head, I can think of:
- different kinds of hats; rounded, short, summery/non-formal, tall, pointy end; details: feathers, bows, flowers (:P)
- a vest, with no blazer; or just a good dress shirt,
- choice of bowtie / tie / nothing,
- tuxedo cut / non-tuxedo cut, pattern detail (example: Courtly mesmer jacket)/ no pattern,
- summery shirt + pants or capris; sandals or barefoot, so that it would match the summery dress.
- a thin sexy suit instead of fat wammo suit. Yeah baby :3
Mmmyeah.

Would you like to pay for a pack of 60 TV channels and instead of that get 50 different channels and 10 channels that are just duplicates?

I've enjoyed the costumes up until now, but if they are going to start offering duplicates like this then i'm not going to waste my time or money on these anymore.

On the GW2Guru forum, a kilt was suggested as a male option. I like that idea.
cosyfiep
yes they could have come up with 3 different tux types (tails, double breasted, with or without a cumberbun, bow tie or reg, white dinner coat....plenty of options). WHY they decided men dont get a 3rd choice????
Raynb
I don't know and I have the feeling that no one from A.net will ever give us an explanation
Sharkinu
I'll bump this thread every week 'till I'll get a reply from Anet...even if it will take forever.

I have a feeling that they just dont care, I mean now we have wintersday costumes coming up, why in the world would they want to FIX something already out there (armor problems have been around for 5+ years with no fix in sight).
so yeah, I would really like to know why they hate men so much????

Actually I'll be with any reply. Be it something like: "Yea, we know you're not happy with it. We only released the 3rd costume set to please those who went OMG I want top hats of my girls after the release of the interview. We didn't had enough time for a 3rd male costume, but we will update it in 6 months.". Or something like: "We actually sold more wedding costume packs than we were expected and are too lazy to change it now. Deal with it.". Or maybe actually a good reason why they decided to clone the 3rd male costume and some really good reason why they can't change it now.
I just want to know if I will buy their costumes in the future.

Just a suggestion on a 3rd option... Im not the best artist and it is just a sketch
Maybe if Anet does care they can use it... Im sure they could make good work of it
I only have female chars, but I do get the point of this and that it is unfair... so hopefully Anet does give this topic a look ^_^
Edit: made minor change on the drawing because someone noted something out for me
Dewshine Wildclaw
ofc. I would want something for my work should they use it... just saying.

Still here and still waiting for any explanation from A.net...

I play all male characters although I occasionally role a female pvp toon from time to time.
I have always thought the costumes were a rip off and a way of exploiting the gw fan base, yet I broke down and brought the Halloween costumes because they were just so nice. Then they followed it up with this nonsense which has no value for people who play male characters. Sad thing is its so obvious they had to have realized it and just didn't care. They are counting on peoples desire to collect all the costumes for their account to make them overlook the fact that the male only gets one truly unique costume. Not a very good trend developing here.

I wonder if A.net will not answer this thread because they lack a good reason or because they just look at Riverside Inn forum...
lorazcyk
Raynb, they do have a reason... a reason most game developers probably don't consider. It makes more money for Anet to make female characters good looking, even though many people want the same for male characters! But for every person who wants good looking male characters (and their armor), much more other people oppose it, because it takes resources away from making females good looking... *sigh*
Sharkinu
I wonder if I should keep bumping this thread cause this whole thing with cloned costumes ended up being better for me: the steam give and get sales > costumes. Better use for my money.
Raynb
Well, I will. I am a customer and I still wish an answer from A.net team about it.
lorazcyk
They don't bother making male costumes good looking, that way people will pay to change their male characters to female. Two birds with one shot.
Pity I don't want a bimbo female character, eh? I want good looking male characters!

Wow, really not a single pronunciation about this issue... Well, why would they, I already paid so why bother with a customer, right? Really sad as a customer to have such silence from A.net...

they will probably keep turning out sub par costumes until enough people are upset enough that they don't sell anymore.

Consumerism is FEMALE driven. Ever notice
how when you walk in a store all the ladies atire
is RIGHT UP FRONT....but they keep the mens stuff in the back?
Is sexism @ it's finest! :-P lol jk
I'm happy with them. A little annoyed thst you can die them.
I was going for that baby blue/ powder blue 70's look. lol
But i like the red one. With my red bandana it makes me look like a pirate!

Imagine all those complaining in this thread are females. They play just male characters. Or they play both male and female characters.
Anyway... Since we are females, we probably played with Barbies when we were children. If we played with Barbies, we probably had the Ken (boy barbie) too!
So we dress up both of them.
Now, I'd be pretty pissed if I paid for a 6 piece outfit for my Barbie and Ken, it's advertised as 3 for Barbie 3 for Ken, but the Barbie clothes are all beautiful and different, and Ken gets 3 outfits that look identical?! What's the point? I want to dress up Ken too!
Plus, I bet you're from USA. Men in other countries spend and care as much as women, if not MORE, on looking good. Yet it's rare in USA. Speaking from experience.

Then someone at ArenaNet decided it would be cool to have a female tuxedo for god knows what reason. They created it because they knew some people would like it (and in true double standard fashion they didn't give males the same cross dressing treatment - not that there would be too many complainers) and it was put into the final package as a "bonus costume."
Then some greedy drop kick from ArenaNet marketing saw an opportunity to argue that there were technically 6 costume options from the NPC (regardless of the fact two of the male ones were identical and the third male one was almost the same as the other two male ones) so he decided to charge extra for the whole package even though males only get one costumes (I refuse to recognise the removal of tassles and slight lengthening of tales = new costume).
There are three faults here:
- The costume designers half assed the "two" male tuxedos so they are barely distinguishable from each other.
- The inclusion of the third female option (in addition to their already two unique options) was completely inconsistent and favours the female gender.
- Some drop kick from marketing put a greedy price tag on the whole thing. He charged for six costumes instead of the 4 and 1/2 players were given.
This is the new ArenaNet: plug your credit card in and any chance we get to take money for as little as possible (and less than what justifies the price) because it makes the bottom line look better. Increasing the price of the already overpriced costumes when you didn't increase the content is a slap in the face. This is what happens when a company has a captured audience willing to pay anything for a little extra regardless of whether they think it's value for money.

I mean, Anet does state that there was only five costumes released, not six. If you want, read up on the Limited Edition Wedding Party Costume Pack in the NCsoft Store.
It says there is only five costumes, not six, and that the second male costume was teamed up in the third package. So basically, Anet meant to only release two male costumes and three female costumes.
But I do agree with OP. Even though we were only supposed to get two male costumes and three female costumes, they should have given males a third to be fair to both sexes.
Even if it was something as simple as this (business type attire):
