Just imagine, suddenly having thousands and thousands of gold you have spent on skills that you never use back...

Ha, not going to happen. Buying of skills is one of the main gold sinks in the game. The fact that there are so many skills means that there's variety in how you can approach most of the game, with some skills being an exceptionally good choice for particular areas and other skills being interchangeable regardless.

The idea of a skill for your character is the equivalent of learning how to performa a particular motion or getting a lesson in school or learning to cook. You can't be unshown how to do something, even if you don't use what you're shown, you can still do it again.

The skills are effectively the central game element, how you use the resources you're allocated is up to you. This is something you shouldn't be able to give back.

You can't sell them back, but don't worry about it.

As someone else has already said, skill points are a dime a dozen after a while. Some people actually like getting every skill in the game on a character so that they are able to run any build that they want! More skills = More possibilities. Never a bad thing.

I don't get every skill, but I do get every skill of the primary profession, plus as many others as I use. That also unlocks all the skills for your heroes - assuming you have one character of each profession.

I restarted my mesmer a while back and that toon lacks the skill points to be acquiring everything, but eventually it'll get there.
