Texmod (I know, I know.. another one)
AyannaDragon
Here's the deal:
When I try to use TexMod/Cartography Made Easy, it doesn't work. TexMod opens just fine, and when I click "run" GW opens just fine, but my map isn't showing the highlight over unexplored areas. There is NO error message at all, the textures just don't seem to be loading with the game.
First off, stupidity out of the way:
Yes, I've restarted my computer multiple times.
Yes, I've highlighted the Cartography package.
Yes, I've selected GW.EXE and not the shortcut.
Yes, I've reinstalled Guild wars, TexMod, and re-downloaded the .tpf to make sure nothing was corrupted.
Yes, I'm running both TexMod AND Guildwars as Admin, and selected compatibility mode for SP2.
Yes, I've tried moving GW out of my program files, and into another folder.

Did you select the TPF file from the Listbox on the Left Hand Side of the Textmod UI before launching GW.exe?
AyannaDragon
You mean highlighting the package name before hitting run? Yes, I did.

I'm fresh out of ideas, I just noticed that if I didn't select it it didn't load my stuff.
Try another TPF File, just to see if there's something not working with the Cartographer one.
AyannaDragon
I've tried a few other TPFs listed on the wiki, and none work.

How about temporarily disabling your AV program of choice? AV and Texmod don't play nice.

I know I can't seem to get texmod working on Vista no matter what I do, but it works fine on XP. What OS are you running?
AyannaDragon
Tried it with AV disabled, no go.. and I'm on Vista. :/

What video card do you have and is it DirectX 9 compatible?
If it only does DirectX 8, Texmod WILL NOT work.

I just fixed my own texmod by complete reinstalling gw. (download the .exe from the official guild wars site)

ArenaNet permits the use of TexMod but they don't support it. Use it at your own risk. If you somehow screw up your game while using it, it's your problem. Using it for mapping is fine.

I'm also having the exact same issue as the OP, did you figure out how to fix it? I'm on windows7.

If you have more than one copy of Guild Wars on your hard drive (e.g. for using GWMultiLaunch or GWx2) delete the second copy. I was experiencing issues exactly like this a while ago, and deleting the extra copies fixed it entirely. Don't ask me why- to me it's entirely odd, but it worked. Hope this helps.

You don't have to delete the other copy. Just run texmod with it.
So if you have two copies going like .../GW/GW.exe & .../GW copy/GW.exe, just run the other one with texmod. If you have more, try the next one.
It's something to do with GWx2 and ML prioritizing the path of the last opened copy. So if you used ML to run both 'GW' and 'GW copy' and the copy was opened as second, it is now perceived as the 'main' version.
In short, i think it works like that: you run one GW.exe, it then asks the registry for gw.dat file, takes the path from the registry and opens it for the game; running ML changes that path, virtually making you play on another copy with the same desktop shortcut. That's also why templates and screens are sometimes in the 'wrong' folder.

Textmod also requires a fully compatible Direct X 9.0c video card.. I only know cause i have the same problem. Maybe that's the problem?

If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, try running the Texmod as administrator, thats what I do and it works fine. Hope this helps.

I use Texmod on Windows 7 and it runs just fine. However, I never start up GW by running GW.EXE any more, I leave Texmod running (it's only about a 1 meg memory footprint) and start from there. What I noticed is that, oftentimes, when I load up texmod and then run GW through texmod, the 1st time I do that I don't get the mapping textures. I have to shut down GW and then restart it again through texmod. I don't know why, but it happens with 100% consistently and just shutting down GW and restarting it through texmod fixes it every time. This is how I hit on the strategy of basically just leaving it running all the time and using it to bootstrap GW.
I'm running on a crappy Toshiba laptop although I'm definitely running an account that has admin rights and don't have AV.
Hope this helps.

You have to run the gw.exe from the texmod window. Sometimes after loading the patch gw shuts down and restarts but then it's not running "through" texmod.

Evolution and dudemonkey - have you ever used copies of GW client (ran GW from another directory, be it via ML, gwx2 or normally) on this system?

Am I the only person who has thought have you did a load of GW without textmod with -image?
