Training a pet to aggressive - dire?
wolf1095
If training a pet to evolve to become and Aggressive pet then Dire, can it not die at all? Or can it die, but not alot? Thanks!

To get a Dire evolution the pet needs to deal more damage than it takes. Dying wouldn't screw it up but if it's dying a lot you've got problems anyway.

Or you can not worry about the pet and just let it die over and over. It will evolve into hearty which you can then put in the Zashien Menagerie and talk to Wynn to spawn lvl 20 dire form.

I'm not sure if dying affects it. I believe it evolves based on the damage it does compared to your damage. If you want to level it to dire, you will have to let it do all the damage while you don't do any damage. Also I dont think you are supposed to heal it.
What red dog said is untrue, you can not turn in a hearty pet and get it back in dire form. You need to turn in a dire form, which will unlock all forms.
I have every single pet unlocked as Dire, most of them can evolve by death-leveling (Let them kill you over and over again - bring a hero monk to res you)
For the ones that can't be death leveled - Rainbow Phoenix, White Moa, and maybe 1 or 2 others - you will need to level them in the way I described in the first paragraph. Try to find some creature that only deal physical damage to fight. One of the desrt missions in prophecies spawns two minotaurs at the beginning which works great for this. Bring call of protection, feral lunge and a few more pet skills. I have a special build i used for this. If intersted pm me on guru

Uhm, yes it is true. I've done it several times. Turn in a hearty level 20 pet, and ask Wynn to spawn a level 20 dire animal that you then charm and turn into a pet.

It has nothing to do with it's deaths, but it's damage received. The dmg output of the pet has to be much greater than the dmg received by the pet for it to become dire. One way to do this that i have employed is to let ur pet hit the practice dummies outside gtob for a while, and then go do ss/lb runs in wurms. ur pet will be dead the entire time it is gaining experience so that it doesn't receive any dmg while retaining the dmg dealt from attacking target dummies at isle. guaranteed dire every time.

Don't bother doing it that way.Train the pet to a regular lvl 20, take him to Zaishen menagerie, unlock the pet, then have them summon a lvl 20 of your desired specialization.

Both dire and hearty are considered evolved, while elder is unevolved. Turning in an evolved level 20 pet, either dire or hearty, unlocks the top tier. It has been this way since the day the menagerie was added, and updates have nothing to do with it.

or if you're really bored, or working on treasure hunter/wisdom...just kill the wurms outside boreal in HM. they're level 30's and do very little dmg. just bring a decent pet build and your lockpicks since theres usually 1-2 chests in the short run. havent had a pet anything other than dire doing it that way. if you have eotn that is...

Pet evolution parameters are unclear. Best guess is that it considers both ratio of damage dealt to damage taken and ratio of damage dealt by pet vs damage dealt by player.
In any event, it's FAR easier just to death level a hearty in the Menagerie and then check out a dire from the trainer.
