Rewards for the upcoming Canthan content package should be customized automatically.
Mr Whomp
Seeing as people were generally opposed to making the WiK and the upcoming Canthan content title-worthy (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/n...0460249p2.html), I suggest that instead the rewards, assuming there will be any, should be automatically customized. The system would be exactly like how the Bonus Mission Pack rewards function.
Your unique weapons would show that you actually completed the content, rather than just purchasing it, which would appeal to the ones who suggest it should title-worthy without alienating those who are opposed to titles.
This, of course, is all working on the premise that weapons will be the tangible reward for completion.
Yes?
No?
Maybe-so?

Casually farming the courier at the beginning of wik, completing it and the hearts of the north on only 2 characters netted me 9 opressor weapons.
No grind at all just fun.
Yes they are overpriced atm but only for lazy buyers.
Keep them tradable because I made a few peeps really happy with the free point for their hall.

What's gonna happen when you get your way when the content finally comes out and its impossible for you to complete but the rewards are the most epic looking items in the game?
That's right, you'll complain that you want to be able to buy them from other players.

I think Anet have intentionally avoided this because they know not everyone likes the look of the oppressor weapons or *insert reward here*. There's still however incentive for them to play because they can sell the rewards to other players. This rationale was probably behind the much-complained about buyable Zaishen title, which allows you to convert PvP progress to market-determined gold rewards instead of yet another title.
Personally if WiK rewards were customized I would not have completed it on more than 1 or 2 characters. Most of them just turned into gold so I can buy things I DO want like sweet/party etc. points, and its nice not having to do repetitive raptor or vettir or whatever farming to afford them.
That said I expect we'll be seeing some more heroes as reward (to go with our 7 hero parties) so there will be some nod to non-transferable rewards. Offering both is perhaps ideal so players do have something exclusive to show off, but players also can trade other rewards to get things they want.

Non tradable items are failure. Medals and zcoins can't be traded but at least they can be converted to something that can. At this stage in GW everything needs to be tradable or the limping in game economy fails.
Ok Dont Panic

If people want to keep them then thats great. Another point for HoM i guess, some people will farm them and find it a fun way to grind some cash for titles that they want like sweet/party/drunkard/Zaishen lets say it is weapons again... and it starts at 20e a weapon. Thats already 20e for your hards work and and 20e closer to sweet/party/drunk/ztitle.
and @ dasmitchies i hardly think the amount of tradable goods has made the economy so bad... how about the power traders... If some of the elite weapons from Dungeons and elite areas* where non tradable it would be a bit more prestigious than.. Oh look he paid 10e for a sword.. woo.. More.. Wow he did UW a lot to get that probably.. or was really lucky on the first time..

I'd rather have 2-3x the content vs. more miniatures and weapon skins that just spur people on to do multiple character grind through these quests. If the content was engrossing instead of a badly written romance novel we wouldn't need a cookie and a pat on the back as incentive every time to beat it.

I didn't say anything about WiK, now did I?

Being able to do the content and then sell your rewards (if you so choose) has been and should be a staple of the Guild Wars experience. What the OP is suggesting isn't so different from saying that drops from Dungeons chests should be automatically customized...

At this point, who really cares about if the weapon or minipet someone is dragging around was bought or earned?
Storytime! I was playing Aion and got SO excited when I got my first blue drop... then I noticed they were leather gloves. The character I was on didn't wear leather, but one of my others did. I was still a little excited until I noticed that they couldn't be sold or put into the account storage. They were then trashed. Sure, I could have actually worn them as a trophy... but chain was a much better choice for that profession.
Is that how we want GW to be? Take into consideration that what I was talking about was a monster drop and no real effort was even involved. Imagine going through WiK or something similar only to be stuck with an item you either don't like or can't use. That's not much of a reward.
I like having the ability to sell the things I don't care for so I can afford to buy the things I want.

i agree with those who say "no" to the auto-customization
i do like the idea of what WiK has, the medals cant be traded
so the items required to get some kind of rewards being non-tradeable is good, that way some may think: the hell, i'm not gonna wait til someone has enough of them to buy it.... they may think that, or just farm more until they can buy
no but, that would give some people the feeling that they actually achieved something... or just gotten from those royal gifts
this may influence a bit of the community ingame
i'm sry OP, i have to disagree, people still wanna count on each other, either being lazy or rather buy it with their rusty money
EDIT: whoops, sry about the 3 smileys, hope its not too much for 1 post o_O

No thanx for customisation. Take War in Kryta for instance. I do it on my... warrior, but i think the shield sword and axe look crap. So now im stuck with a useless weapon after going throuhg all that content, and realise I actually want the spear & shield on para and daggers on sin. So now I have to do it twice more para for shield and sin to get the daggers, and then for ages to get the spear on the para when ive already 'done the content' three times and should therefore recieve 3 weapons. This is whats happened to me, ive got the spear, shield and daggers and only done it twice + Hearts once. Glad i could move them around.
Say in the new canthan content the hammer, sword, shield and axe are epic looking, how long is it going to take me to get all of them on my warrior based on the farming rate of medals WITHOUT being able to trade across characters.
Finally, say theres 5 weapons I really like and so i did the content on 5 different characters to get them all. Now my necro hasnt gone through and I do it with a friend to help him out. Ive got a 6th weapon I dont want, cant sell and will feel stupid about deleting.
This is the issue with customization. Tradeable is a prerequisite for guild wars items. The only exception to this is the Bonus Mission Pack weapons which where so ridiculously easy to get that even if they were tradeable there value would be basically 0. So if the canthan items werent tradeable, the tradeoff to that would be that they would be piss common, and therefore not worth being the reward anywayz.

I would change customization to be account-wide and to work like requirement with damage in weapons, so if you don't customize and item, you don't get the full properties.
That we don't have people having the cake, eating it, and then selling it to someone else. That would remove items from the market, and make the new ones that drop more... useful.
By customizing unique drops upon acquisition? Nah.
What if you get 3 identical miniatures?
I don't need to add them to more than one character, and I may want to give them away.

Just a simple /notsigned.
We have no idea what the reward will even be, so saying it should be instantly customized, is really a debate we can't even have yet.
For instance, if it is new armor, it is already customized. A new mini pet? How would we dedicate it if it is already dedicated once we get it? And if you did it on multiple toons, what would you do with the tons of extra minis of the same thing? If it is weapons, what if we don't like the skin? Are we stuck with something that we have no use for, instead of giving it to someone who would be able to use it more than us?
There is tons of different things that the rewards could be. Until we know exactly what it is, it is hard to say whether we wanted it instantly customized or not.
Technically with WiK, the items we got as rewards were customized to us. Medals of Honor. What you did with them afterwards, was your choice. And if the Oppressor's Weapons were customized upon exchange, then people would of bought Royal Gifts and sold those instead. Either way, people will find a way to make money off of something.
