Apparent connection issue
joea64
I originally posted about this in the "Permanent loading screen" thread, but I think now that this is a separate issue and I've heard from at least one other person having the same problem. To recap:
For at least the last hour or so, I've been experiencing severe problems trying to connect to Guild Wars or to any website associated with Guild Wars. When I attempt to log on to the game, the login process pauses at the "Connecting..." message and won't complete. Cancelling and resending sometimes gets me to my character screen, but when I attempt to load a character, the load process hangs when loading the outpost (specifically Doomlore Shrine, American district 1, which was where I last was when I logged out early this morning).
Furthermore, websites associated with Guild Wars - guildwars.com, wiki.guildwars.com and ncsoft.com - are all having serious slow load/connection issues. In fact, up until just a moment ago I couldn't load wiki.guildwars.com at all. Frustratingly, the guildwars.com support page, last time I was able to get through, claimed there were no network issues, which flies in the face of what I've been experiencing.
I'm fairly certain it's not a problem with my connection, since I've been able to connect to every other (non-GW) website I've tried so far as well as my email account's server and MSN Messenger.
Is anyone else experiencing the same or similar problems this evening?

Besides the "Connecting..." part, we have the same problem. I can easily get to the character screen but I can't load any map. I've tried various characters and various locations like Zaishen Elite, Rata Sum etc. None can get past the loading screen. I can't load the guild wars website or guild wars wiki. Not sure what the problem is.
Garretto The Necro
it does the same connecting thing whenever i try to log in meanwhile right beside me my brother in law on the same connection as me doesnt have the problem i see this as anet targetting certain people for different reasons i was stuck in polish district and i could map on the 4/10 chars that were not in my gh i could also map around as long as i stayed in polish dis i could do it but i couldnt do anything other then that

Same...guessing servers issues?

As of this morning, I am still having the same issues with connecting to GW, though guildwars.com seems to be working again (however, wiki.guildwars.com and ncsoft.com are still having significant slow load/connection issues). I dug around a bit and found a thread here from July discussing similar problems which mentions another possible cause, that of my gw.dat file having been corrupted (which can cause similar problems with connecting), so I renamed the old gw.dat file and re-downloaded the base game information (as suggested in the GW Guru thread on the problem), then attempted another logon. Unfortunately, I am still not able to connect to the game, getting an error 58.
EDIT 10:25 am Eastern: I have just checked the game server's URL (64.25.39.55) with several online traceroute/ping services, and all of them are reporting serious problems (one service even claims there's no such URL).

Same issues here. Started yesterday afternoon, still experiencing the same issues this morning, no error. Logs into the accnt fine, but when loading a character it hangs on the map load screen.

Also, as I just posted above when editing my last post, I have found that the game server URL (64.25.39.55) appears to be experiencing severe problems. I've tested it with several online ping/traceroute applications and all of them are reporting significant difficulty in reaching the URL, up to 100% packet loss (one service even claims there's no such URL).
EDIT: Tried 2 other characters parked in other locations, at 2 other server URL's (64.25.39.66 and 64.25.39.57) and both are unreachable according to online ping/traceroute services. I guess we can confirm that there's something badly wrong with GW's servers since last evening...but then the network status page at guildwars.com claims "no issues". Go figure.

I have the same issue. With some differences tho.
Ok so i was able to come into my home screen easily, and could choose characters. Visit the NCsoft. I was even able to enter with some of my chars, into the temple of balthazar and lions arch. But with others was stuck on permanently loading screen.
Now, i uninstalled GW and copied 2year old verzion of the game that i know works, updated it, and now can't get pas the loading screen and can't visit ncsoft... Kinda sorta nnoying

ANet/NCSoft support still hasn't responded to the ticket I filed with them this morning. I hope that's because they're trying to find the problem and fix it. Meanwhile. guildwars.com and wiki.guildwars.com continue to be unreachable, at least from here. (Please see my other thread for the network diagnostic log I obtained this morning which shows that there's a serious packet-loss problem at the GW end of the ping/traceroute line, at least for its US servers.)

Sadly its saturday which means soon as support staff log off friday night theres usually nothing done till monday morning when they return to work. Its always been this way at weekends and often you see a huge amount of players at weekends demanding ( not you ) that xxx thing is sorted there and then and a few send multiple tickets. Its going to take a few days to sort out sadly and i`ll bet monday morning support staff will probably have a few hundred tickets to sort ... wonder if they should hire a few more support staff or give them weekend shifts.

I was having the same issue for a while (although I was running GW on wine, and it did work on windows). Eventually I got so frustrated that I simply deleted the .dat file and redownloaded everything in game. Since then, it connected perfectly fine. It might be because of the .dat file, but don't quote me on that.

The problem, whatever it was (I haven't heard anything further from NCSoft support since Saturday night) apparently was fixed yesterday morning. Everything seems to be running normally at this point.
The Super Chilli
Im having similar problems, however I cannot log in at ALL to the character select screen. I will get a "connection..." message for about 5-10 seconds before saying my password is out...
Is this the same bug?

The problem appears to be back.
Guild Wars was working normally for about two days, and is now having the same problem it did before: Stuck at "Connecting" on the loading screen, and the websites won't load.
Edit: Actually, it seems the websites work, but the game does not.

When I got home this afternoon from work, I think I came in at the tailend of the latest occurrence. I'd set offline, and when I tried to log back on, the first time I got the dreaded "Connecting..." radio button. I pressed cancel and tried again, and this time I connected immediately. No problems since then.
