guild creation
Master Sage
Was just wondering with the game as old as it is is it worth the effort to create a guild? I see a lot of returning players and new players. But know its hard to get a guild running when its just you in it.
Thanks

At this point, I wouldn't expect to make and maintain a large guild. If you play with several friends who are all fairly active and can answer questions as officers, you can get a good group together.
Unless you're willing to put a lot of time and effort into recruitment and helping people out, you probably won't be too successful. But a guild doesn't have to be big to be fun, either .

Unless you have a group of 8-9 already that are willing to work hours and hours on just the guild, it wont be maintained in this climate.

What's your goal exactly? PvP? Filling your HoM? You might be better off joining an established guild with active leaders and officers rather than trying to build something from the ground up.
I had a few friends decline to join the guild I was in, just so they could start their own and be leader, design a cape, etc. and they always quit the game after a few weeks or month, complaining that it was "boring". Well of course it's going to be boring when it's just you and that one guy you picked up from spamming Lions Arch for an hour. And this was back when the games were new, can't imagine what it would be like now.

I have had my own guild since April 2006. Believe me it's very frustrating. As soon as you have helped a new member navigate the pitfalls and difficult parts of the game, he/she leaves. I have had as many as 50 and as few as 3 members (family). I have a few friends who come and go, but I am stuck. No going off and enjoying some fun with another guild for me. So the answer is a resounding NO. Don't start a guild. Shop around in Guild Connections until you find one you like. If that one falls apart, just leave and find another.

Don't start a guild if you cannot invest 1h per day forever to invite new members.
I put my second account regularly into whatever guild that invites me in Kamadan. They are mostly new founded guilds with 10-20 members. The leader designates some officers and expects them to also invite new members, which the usually don't. He ceases to invite new members, so the member count actually decreases since every other day someone leaves. At some time, the leader goes inactive or about everyone leaves. Life time of these guilds: 2-4 weeks.
I got into only 2 big 2-3 year old guilds this way. The leaders were the founders and they were very active with inviting members. 1-3 each day. And 1-3 leave each day. But as soon as the leader goes inactive, the guild crumbles. It's more like a PUG-ressource than a real guild.
With my main account, I am in a 2005-founded medium-sized guild (~15 members logged on the last 24h and ~15 more members logged on in the last 7 days). Here, invitations are one per month and almost never someone leaves - it's also about one per month. Half of the guild is active in Teamspeak and we know each other well. This is an established guild that probably will continue to exist in an active state until GW2. (the average age is above 30)
My recommendation: go into a guild that fits you. Don't make your own if you don't intend to spend half of your play time with inviting new members for the rest of your guild wars time.

20 active members is better than having 90 members with only 10 logging in regularly. |
And for PvP. PvP sucks hard if you don't have a guild (in my opinion). With a guild, you'll grow together and improve. That doesn't happen to PUGs, mostly because you'll be with different people all the time. Not to mention that you need a guild to GvG.

I've led and been member of some of the biggest guilds/alliances in the game and tbh then, and even now, guilds are a cesspool of drama, rage and terrible players. There are definitely more people playing the game now than in the last year but in terms of actually building and maintaining a guild, unless your officer list is full of people you've known for years, don't bother.

This. I don't usually "qft" but after 5 years of GW, I've seen it time and time again. I watched a year old guild disintegrate when a primary ranger player told a primary necro player to bring "SS". He meant Spinal Shivers, but Spiteful Spirit ended up on the bar instead, and the resulting drama killed the guild in minutes.

Your members want your guild hall full of NPC's, but they're not willing to put up the money to help buy services.
Your members want you to drop everything you're doing and help them do a quest or mission, but they're too busy doing their own thing when you need help.
Your members complain about why they're not an officer, but when you promote them, they dont do any recruiting.
Its much easier to join an established guild if your goal is to play with a bunch of people. Starting your own guild is a slow and painful process.
