sound problem with windows 7

hi i have guild wars platinum edition, my problem is when i start the the sound is a bit muffled like it is slowing down. i have a creative labs 24 bit live sound card on windows 7, if i change the setting to windows 98 the sound is ok. this is the only game i have this problem with any ideas.

Guild Wars version type does not matter. It's a marketing term for the package you bought which will in turn give you your account access. Everyone's game client up to date is the same. Now that that's cleared up...
So what you're saying is, when you change the Compatibility Mode under GW.EXE's properties to Windows 98, the sound is fine? If that's what fixes it, why would you need help trying to fix it?
Did you make sure your sound card drivers are up to date? Did you install this sound card before or after you started playing guild wars (or before/after this current install of GW?). Did you do anything to the system at all since installing Guild Wars?
And down to the simple things: Is the 3D Audio Hardware and or EAX boxes checked at the bottom of the sound sliders tab? What is the sound quality slider set to?
