Bunch of "noobish" questions.
Guidoking
Okay say I bought Guild Wars back when it came out ages ago in 2005/2006 was it? And played it a few times but never understood it (I was younger).
I just recently fired it up again about a month ago and im loving it! I got my E/RT up to a 20 and im on the last 3 missions of Prophecies and been dibblin/dabblin in Factions and Nightfall.
I just have ALWAYS been wondering a few things:
1) At a mission outpost when I ask if everyone is ready, they say "1". What does that mean? Doesn't seem like a proper response to are you ready. ;p
2) What exactly is a weapon worth a lot? I have got tons of gold weapons but from PC's on here people tell me its just worth what it is. How do I truly find or get those K's weapons worth shit tons.
3) What is a common amount of gold to have? I find myself constantly falling beneath 1K when upgrading armor, buying salvage kits, etc. It seems like lots of people have unlimited money and it pisses me off!
4) What are Minis? And what do they do? Who can have them?
5) I saw some dude (i think Necro) resurrect a bunch of "boneyard" things or something that run around and F" sh*t up with us in our party. What are those. How do I get?
6) I ascended and saw that I could go to the underworld for 1K. Is the Underworld travable by map or do I have to pay 1K each time to go? When am I ready for the underworld and who should I go with?
7) I need a dope ass Fire Wand for my Nuking Fire E/RT. Where do I get? Or where is a good drop zone?
Thanks guys!

1) '1' usually means 'ready'. 'My build is complete, you can start the mission'. Or something.
2) Max weapons (that is: max damage, max stats), with either inherent stats (drop only in Prophecies and Factions) / low requirement (max q8 shields, for example) / very rare and wanted skin (Frog Scepter, for example). Getting into the weapons market is complicated and i wouldn't recommend to focus on it now, at all. If you want to make some money, farm materials (feathers) or festive items for sale.
3) For the first month or two, when i was starting, i rarely had over 5k at any given time. With 20k, i considered myself rich. Later, after my char's / heroes' needs were satisfied and i started farming/trading a little, i started accumulating gold. In short: don't bother, GW is a game where gold gives you only looks and achievements, not an edge over others (at least after you get max armor and rune yourself up).
4). Minipets. Every character gets a present on its birthday. After opening it, it turns into an annual minipet. It can be 'summoned' by doubleclicking. It follows the player that summoned it, looking nice and doing completely nothing. [Note: paragon shouts benefit from minis, as they are considered allies, but that's usually marginal]. With advent of HoM Calculator, minipets became obsession of players who want to fill their HoM; otherwise, they were always 'something to spend money on' by collectors.
5) Necros (or any/N) can summon minions via certain skills. Just for fun, you might be able to do so with your E/N as well. More on wiki.
6) Every time you go into the UW someone from the party has to pay 1k (or use a teleport scroll). It's an elite area, with addition of Skeletons and Dhuum considered one of the hardest (imho, it's the hardest actually). If you're not an experienced player with well developed and controlled heroes, and you don't have two or three friends with decent heroes as well, don't even try UW on your own. You might want to join a PvE guild once you get more familiar with the game - i made my first UW trip after i've beaten the three campaigns in NM and made some progress in HM. Fissure of Woe is much easier than UW and more PuG-friendly.
The official GW Wiki holds a lot of answers as well.

You don't really need a lot of money. Having money for what you need is a lot more important than having it for what you want. So long as you can afford max rating armor (60 for casters; 70 for sins, rangers, dervs; and 80 for wars and paras) and a decent weapon.
Quote:
4) What are Minis? And what do they do? Who can have them? |
There are a few "rarer" minipets given out to contest winners (art contests, etc. held on official GW website). There is also a Mini Black Moa Chick which is obtained from an in-game scavenger hunt.

You can get minion skills by creating a necromancer character or switching your ele's secondary to necromancer. However, an elementalist's abilities are better used killing things than creating minions.

The 1k cost is minimal compared to the expensive items (eternal blades, etc.) and materials (globs of ectoplasm) that can be obtained from killing enemies in the UnderWorld.

To clarify the 2 points Kasha left foggy:
IN GW, the price is dictated by skin and skin rarity (assuming every weapon you will sell is maxed). Those weapons are those found in elite areas or very expensive crafters (I mean 10k+ a weapon). I've found you can sell max weapon of most skin between 1 and 3k to guild mates. That's not a lot, but if you stockpile weapons, it's a little something once in a while. It's not a lot
I've found that with 10k in stash, I can afford almost anything that is not vanity whenever I need it (armor/tome/consumable if I need...). A lot of people say they can make 50k in an afternoon. I, too, am still wondering how they do it.
All chapters give a single perfect weapon (that's max dmg and mods) when you finish them. If you want one before you finish prophecy, look for colectors in prophecy (http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Collector) for one who will give a decent wand.
Also, some people don't seem to realise it when buying, but most staves work on all casters. They are cheap alternative to wand/focus and you can have one for most of your builds.
No problem.

1) "1" = "My good friends, I am now ready to face whatever perils await us in the next stage of our journey. Let us begin that journey... NOW!"
2) I cannot answer this question. Guild Wars's player-to-player "economy" is something that I find frustrating, so I do not include it in my gameplay.
3) I usually slowly accrue money until I go and buy a set of armor. I'll spend all my plat all the way down to zero if I want to. Then, over the next week of doing quests, missions, dungeons, salvaging, selling and whatnot, it'll creep back up again. My opinion = It's fake money, and it's better spent than kept.
4) Minis are miniature pets that follow you around. They're just for show. They can't fight. Some of them make noises (like my favorite, the Jungle Troll)
Here's more info: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Miniature
5) You probably saw him use "Aura of the Lich" an elite necromancer death magic skill. It exploits every corpse in the area and makes a minion out of it. Minions are animated by Necromancers, and require a corpse to "exploit".
Here's more info: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Minion.
6) Traditionally, in order to go to the UW, you have to /kneel at the Altar of Grenth in the Temple of Ages, Zin Ku Corridor or the Chantry of Secrets. Then a ghost pops out. Someone in your party gives the ghost 1k and he teleports your whole party to the Underworld. If you ask around in those outposts, surely a friendly player will help you learn what skills you'll need to bring.
Here's more info: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Underworld
7) There are too many sources of weapons to name. Again, refer to the wiki for "weaponsmiths" or "collector weapons" or "green weapons" to learn more. You could also just go to Lion's Arch, Droknar's Forge or Kamadan, then say "WTB decent green fire staff, 5k" and you'll surely find something nice.
7 also) When you beat the game, you'll get a token (in Prophecies, it's a "key" that you use to unlock the "Elementalist Chest" -- which is just a silly collector). You trade that token in for a weapon. The fire weapon for beating the game isn't half bad.

But for my two cents. If you are not currently in a Guild that is the best way to start learning. There are plenty of players out there that are willing to answer your "noobish" questions and many will even help get you your weapons that you "need".

1) At a mission outpost when I ask if everyone is ready, they say "1". What does that mean? Doesn't seem like a proper response to are you ready. ;p
International way of saying ready. People spoke different languages once upon a time.
2) What exactly is a weapon worth a lot? I have got tons of gold weapons but from PC's on here people tell me its just worth what it is. How do I truly find or get those K's weapons worth shit tons.
Most random golds you collect are worthless. Most truly rare golds are incredibly rare and/or old Prophecies drops. There are a few items from EotN which are worth a little bit because they have a low drop rate (1% from end of dungeon chest or something) such as the Bone Dragon Staff or the Frog Scepter.
With the current game economy finding a gold which is actually worth something significant is really unlikely, it's almost entirely based on luck. Unless you're speed clearing a dungeon over and over the chances of feasibly being able to complete something enough times to actually remove luck from the equation and assuredly get something are pretty low.
3) What is a common amount of gold to have? I find myself constantly falling beneath 1K when upgrading armor, buying salvage kits, etc. It seems like lots of people have unlimited money and it pisses me off!
There is no common amount of gold. Most people have made a lot of money over the course of playing, through lucky drops, farming or trading. To consistently make money in GW you need to have money to begin with so you can bank or trade.
4) What are Minis? And what do they do? Who can have them?
Mini pets are vanity items, they're just little miniatures of different NPC's or creatures which chase after your character. They can also be put in the Hall of Monuments. Most minis come from birthday presents, received each year you've had your character. There are some rare drops and others which have been contest rewards, those are usually worth a lot more, but they're harder to acquire.
5) I saw some dude (i think Necro) resurrect a bunch of "boneyard" things or something that run around and F" sh*t up with us in our party. What are those. How do I get?
He was a minion master, basically a necro playing a Death Magic build which exploits corpses to create pets. They're very effective if you can get the ball rolling and make some things dead to start the minion factory.
6) I ascended and saw that I could go to the underworld for 1K. Is the Underworld travable by map or do I have to pay 1K each time to go? When am I ready for the underworld and who should I go with?
UW is an explorable area, you pay 1k each time to enter. If you wipe or certain NPC's die, you get kicked out (there are no rez shrines in UW). The area basically has the best drops in Prophecies and is the primary area for drops of Glob of Ectoplasm (the rare material used in Obsidian Armor and utilized as a second currency for trades over 100k).
7) I need a dope ass Fire Wand for my Nuking Fire E/RT. Where do I get? Or where is a good drop zone?
Don't try and farm it from random mobs. There is nowhere where that would be effective. You should look at the collector or unique (green) item options on the Wiki. That way you'll kill a specific type of mob for their collector items or a boss for their green. Collector items are generally easier to get and take less time to farm than any other option.
You could also finish a campaign and you'll receive a token for having beaten the campaign. You can then trade this token in for various greens from the people of the campaign you just saved (do a wiki search for Deldrimor Talisman, Amulet of the Mists, Book of Secrets or Droknar's Key).
Alternatively you could (save up and) spend some gold and buy something from a player. Chances are you'll want to buy an inscription based fire wand (a non-inscription fire wand with good stats is pretty far outside your budget right now). You'll need to buy the mods to make it perfect, 20% half cast time and 20% half skill recharge are generally considered the best mods. Probably cost you about 5-10k to end up with a perfect core skin fire wand.
If you have any more questions PM me here or ingame - GW is a difficult game to explain in one sitting and there are probably important things you don't even know to ask about yet but might make your life a lot easier.

bro, if you're in constant poverty, go to grand temple of balthazar and use your tournament reward points (tolkano npc), collect zkeys and then sell em usually at 5k, use those zkeys to buy trapping skills by unlocking for a pvp ranger and then go to zaishen elite and trap for an easy 6k faction everyday. You can buy more zaishen keys for 5k faction and sell them for 5k in gold.

Well, to be honest..
Since you started in 2005, do you still have the same account? Because if so, you should have 5 minipets by now on each character, values really depending on what minipet... Some are 2k, some are 700k... A lot are between 10 and 30k each..
So, check your characters, look what minipets you have, and PC them on here, then sell.
You should at least get 100k if you only have 1 charr, with four, you might get like 800k if you have a little bit of luck..
And, I as well started of, like everyone, thinking i was rich with 20k, now i can't be bothered about 20k. It's pocketchange :P When you're talking millions++ you don't really care that much^^
Oh, and @ Awry, Xunlai house has been closed since like... Ages So no money in there..

2) You will just have to know. Generally, if you get a certain weapon quite often, it will not be worth anything. If you do not get it often, you should just run a PC. As for mods, if they're not (considered) useful, they're worthless.
3) I'm really not sure. Most of my friends have over one million. I figure most people have somewhere between 100-300k, while there's also a lot of people with less than 100k. Before zaishen keys I never really gotten over 50k.
4) Minis is a short-term for minipets. These pets are cosmetic but can also be added to the Hall of Monuments (HoM), which gives you points for items and titels you can show off in GW2 when you link your accounts.
5) They are minions. You can summon, or rather animate them with certain necromancer skills, such as animate bone minions.
6) You have to pay it each time. The first time, I would go with an experienced player if I were you. You have to do the quests in a certain order or it will be incredibly hard.
7) I am not sure where you can get it, but you should really get a 40/40 set. This means you have a focus which has 20% chance to half the casting time spells and a 20% chance to half their recharge time. Your wand will have the same properties.
You can also swap your weapons using f1 and f2. You can add more weapon sets, up to. You should do this.
You should then also have an 'enchant set'. This set is a staff, which has 20% chance to half spell casting time and 20% chance to half their recharge. Also, it lengthens the duration of any enchantment cast in this set, like an attunement, by 20%.
Then you should have a highset. This set has whichever 20% can co-exist with the mod or inscription that gives: (-1 energy regeneration and + 15 energy), which I think is called live for the day.
Finally, you should also have a shield set. You will swap to this set when you take a lot of damage, it will increase your total health and/or give you a slight armor bonus. You can use any one handed physical weapon (spear/sword/axe etc.) and a shield. The mod on the spear doesn't matter too much. The shield should have +10 armor vs. a specific source of damage (piercing for example) and +30 health or another +armor for all incoming damage.
Hope this helps.
Cheers and good luck!

Just wanted to chime in on 2, it's worth it to hit P when you're in town and see what other people are looking to buy, especially if you are looking for what mods to salvage and sell and to get a feel for prices. I suppose some lightning based sin build got popular lately since during October and November I kept seeing WTBs for shocking dagger tangs. If you find the skin is worthless but the mod might not be, you have to weigh how much you can get for it vs. possibly breaking the item, the time to sell it and the storage space it'll take up. Check wiki to know the max levels; people only want max mods.
You can also salvage for materials. Stacks of iron, bone, granite (sort of), feathers and dust are always in demand, but you'll have to know what the weapon salvages first (check the wiki to get to know the generalities). Experiment around for what level of item will give enough mats to make up for the cost of using the kit and the item being salvaged.
Anyway, both of these provide a few k here and a few k there, but it's surprising how much that adds up to while you're gearing up for more lucrative activities.
For the 40/40 set, if you've gotten to Vasburg Armory or Leviathan Pits in Factions you can get them crafted there for 5k (plus mats) per weapon. There might be other crafters, but I'm only familiar with these two. I like the Factions version of the fire wand.

I start to feel poor when I drop down to 500p, but I've been playing for 5+ years.

Now thought the habit of answering '1' to indicate you're ready, was linked to people counting off their position on the party list, so the party leader could see at a glance that everyone had responded, and this degraded down to everyone just saying '1'
Of course I could be compeltely wrong

I remember it came into being so the group leader could tell from all the other chatter when his group was ready, a short cut for saying ready. I remember it started about the time with all the BP groups in Tomb of the Primeval Kings runs.

1) At a mission outpost when I ask if everyone is ready, they say "1". What does that mean? Doesn't seem like a proper response to are you ready. ;p Thanks guys! |
Boolean logic became the foundation of modern digital computer logic.
I doubt you see it so much anymore but back in the early 80's if you took a basic computer programming class you just got so used to drawing yes and no flow charts using 1 and 0 that it became natural to use them for yes and no in computer games.
Whoever brought it into guild wars probably just saw it as an easy way to answer yes to "are you ready?"

If you're in the Southern Shiverpeaks you should have more money just from playing. My guess is you are saving too many gold weapons to try and see if they're worth big bucks and then you end up leaving your "trash" drops laying on the ground. Pick up everything. Seriously. Everything. Empty your inventory so that you CAN pick up everything. Then ID everything, even white stuff -- ID it and it will sell for more at the merchant. Also ID the Runes that you take off of armor separately from ID'ing the armor (yes, ID the armor, remove the rune with an expert salvage kit, ID the rune). Most superior runes will sell for 25g to the rune trader with an Unid'ed rune, but that will jump to between 100 and 200g for an ID'ed rune -- it makes a difference in the long run. Also, always check minor (light blue) attribute runes at the rune trader, those are oftentimes worth good money, and it's no big loss if the armor breaks.
One night of regular play should get you over a plat easily if you just pick up your stuff, ID it and sell it to the merch/trader.
Find someone you trust and ask them to look at the golds that you're saving. If they tell you to merch something merch it. If they tell you they'll buy something, ask them to wait and get a price check from Ventari's on here just to be sure they aren't scamming you. Chances are the fella that offered you a guild invite in this thread would be a great person to ask to do that for you. There are very few items in Prophecies that are worth more than the merchant is offering you, so don't be disappointed if you're told to merch everything.

I have a question and thought;" This is the thread to place it in !"
I have always been told that Charr are vulnerable to fire damage. However, i can't find anything to back this up. You might have guesed my question by now: Is this true ?
It seems a bit odd to me, when they do fire damage themselves. Something like "heat"& "kitchen" comes to mind... :-)
Kind regards; Joe.

Sadly, I do not know the answer to your question. However, like a good scientist, I reccomend you do an experiment or two.
Find some charr, set them on fire, and record the results.
I would be interested in seeing your compiled data!

Looking at some of the armor levels on Wiki, it's false. In fact, charr have no increased or decreased resistances to anything in particular. The +20AL vs. physical for Warriors and +30AL vs. elemental for Rangers still holds though.
Look here and click on a specific charr type to see their armor levels: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Charr...f_hostile_NPCs

Regarding the charr and fire damage... I've been told this as well. I play an elementalist, and when I began developing my toon, I focused on fire - it's "what I know," since I'm a Diablo throwback and always focused most of my skill points into fire there.
Took me a while to figure out that GW most definitely is not Diablo. LOL I've actually had to learn to create and work with builds that focus on the other elements as well... my fire by itself is all but useless against Destroyers, but toss up a little Winter cheer and down they go. Heavy AoE nuking, turned into cold damage. Yay!
With all that said, I've not experienced anything personally that shows me the charr are "weaker" if I pack my primary fire build. It doesn't seem to tank them any quicker/easier than if I load up my lightening skills, or earth. I think the only reason my fire build might seem to work more smoothly is because a) I am supremely comfortable with it, b) I can set off my spells effectively without even thinking about it, and c) fire deals some seriously heavy AoE damage all by its lonesome. When you're dropping a nuclear bomb, no one at ground zero cares if it's 5kiloton or 20kiloton... they're just as dead, yeah?
And really... I just love killing charr. They're probably my all-time favorite foe (except for "rocketydoo!!!'s" in Diablo... or cows with giant axes...) to fight, no matter what element I'm packing.
But a specific weakness to fire? Not that I've observed.
They sure do crumble nicely under pretty much any AoE barrage, though.

Re: Making money:
You got plenty of good advice already. Once you finish a campaign, I suggest you start thinking about getting those mission bonuses you didn't get before.
Then start thinking about hard mode, for missions and vanquishes. Vanquishing a zone nets me at least 2-3k each time from drops and finishing vanq bonus. Also, start looking for Nicholas the Traveler. If he's in a zone you can access too, try to get the item he asks for. You can get up to 5 gifts per week from him and the stuff you get from the gifts can actually be pretty useful:
You get sweets, party items or booze if you want to work on those titles.
You get Merchant and Mysterious Summoning Stones which summon an ally while playing. That Merchant is really useful to unload stuff while you're vanquishing.
There's a few other things you can get from him, but they're not as useful to you at this point in the game.
So, to make money as a new player (and get a few titles while you're at it):
ID everything once you get to an area where henches are Level 20.
Finish a campaign (get that perfect weapon you wanted)
Get those mission bonuses.
Do Hard Mode Missions (with bonuses too)
Vanquish and explore (hey, you're clearing the zone, might as well unfog it as well!)
Look out for Nick (short for Nicholas the Traveler)
Check the Zaishen missions stuff
Until you get to max armor area, try to get the collector's armor : they ask for a drop instead of money and while trying to get more of that drop, you can earn more money
If you bought and runed a non-max armor, salvage the runes off it so you can use them on the new armor
If you have Nightfall, try to go to the "Treasures" every 6 weeks or so (too often and your return diminishes)
With all that, you should have a comfortable cushion in no time.
