So with Wintersday coming up and all, I've been hearing about how Snowball Dominance is a good way to farm both vanguard points and frosty tonics. What is the fastest profession to farm this on (preferably solo w/ hero I have already heard about Necro/ranger duo)?

All thoughts and input about this quest are welcome.

if you roll a ranger, a necro hero always works, you just have to micro him and cope with his failure sometimes, mainly because he tends to use snow fort and then kite. But it's totally do-able ranger/necro with a hero.

Any/Necro hero works fine.

just flag them in the middle of the ball, suicide and start killing.

easy easy 2 minute runs.

Ranger + necro hero

flag necro to the back of the enemy team
just as they turn hostile, unflag
when he reaches about the front, have him use Holiday Blues (necro specific skill)

Then just use the ranger's barage-like skill to spam everything to death

here's my poorly made video from last year. Easily finishes quest in under 1 minute
(P.S. you can have a pet in the fight if you have charm animal equipped before entering, however, it does not attack. It can however draw enemy attacks away from you if you can get it in enemy aggro zone)

Or you could use two accounts, ranger on one and necro on the other, and get twice the reward

i suggest this. I did for awhile the ranger/necro hero team. Then i got GWML, and used my necro. Its alot better having yourself as your teammate b/c you won't do that silly moving out of your fort move.

best way is 2 accounts for the double rewards

The Ranger/Necro Duo is your best bet for a Speed Clear. I take my Ranger and a Necro hero, both with pets. Flag the necro to the frontline/middle of the opposing side. Then use holiday blues as they turn to red and wait for them to ball up tightly and spam flurry of ice on the mob. Pets arent necessary but they can take aggro off of you.

However, this year I'm not too worried about the rewards and I maxed vanguard on my Ranger and Necro already. So I will be using a Necro hero on my other toons like before or try the Ranger hero approach, just for the vanguard points. It wont be the fastest but should still finish in about 2-4min regardless of profession. And the rewards should still be enough to make it worthwhile.

I ran my ranger as others have stated with good success. Its fun too.
My ritualist worked well with rangers, too.

I would run into the opposing team, before they turn hostile, then summon a snowman in the middle of their group. Then i would move back behind the opposing team and wait.

When they turn hostile, they all usually agro/ball up on the summoned snowman. i could then icefort, summon again to ball up more agro as the ranger (player or hero) and allies would come in and snow them all down rather fast.

Con: The ritualist strategy is not fast as the necromancer holiday blues degeneration skill.

Pro: You can get a good ball up of agro for your team (ranger player or hero) to own and vanguard rep points for your ritualist

happy holiday season! have fun

Hopefully the gold reward is removed this year, last year this was a botters heaven getting 1k gold every minute.

So the rest of us should get less of a reward because someone botted?

How about they ban the botters and let the honest players get their rewards.

ArenaNet has adjusted quest rewards many times before, especially when bots target them. It's much more effective to remove the reason the bots are there than to try to ban all the bots flocking to a location.

Besides, even for non-botters, 1k a minute (which humans could get with this as well), was still way too much cast too fast.

500g per win + tonics + cc shards + 500 vanguard if I remember, way too much imo. I would still abuse it again this year no problem with it

I'd say the opposite: if there's one quest that offers a higher reward than others and it's 'bottable', wouldn't it be easier to identify and ban botters than if they're spread out over other activities?

Heh, no, because you have tons of legitimate players doing the same damn thing.
