Hey, I haven't played guild wars in quite a long time and the search button isn't giving me what I'm looking for. I checked out the other thread with a guy asking a similar question but his criteria was quite different to mine and nothing that was suggested seemed to quite fit the bill for me.

Does anyone have a suggestion for my primary profession?

Here's a few things:

1. I'm mostly PvE orientated, I don't care about PvP very much
2. It doesn't matter how difficult the class is to play
3. Survivability is not a big deal
4. I prefer to play a high damage dealing class
5. I would consider playing a healing class

Thanks

Do you have Factions? Then go Rit since they can deal damage and do healing.

I agree, a ritualist is a great profession to play. They can deal lots of damage as a spiritspammer or give support with weapon spells and resto spirits. They are also very efficient farmers. They also have great armor styles.

Imo dont choose ritualist, but its personal taste I guess. Ritualist can get boring pretty fast, spamming spirits all the time, it requires no skills/mind (I'm not saying people who do are mindless :'), so dont get offended)

First u got to make a choice: melee / caster
If going melee I would go for warrior, they deal high damage and have a big survivality.
If going caster I would go necromancer, their great attribute Soul Reaping gives u most of the times enough energy to spam skills. They just own in HM

I pretty much suck as a melee type so usually play spellcasters

Necro my personal favourite damage is very good and much of it armour ignoring you can also raise a minion army spread conditions poison disease etc.
Unique class advantage you gain energy when things die.

Elementalist is the classic fantasy mage pure blow them away with raw power caster type has some limitations in hard mode but you can get around them.
Unique class advantage huge energy pool.

Mesmer "you said didn't mind difficult to play" very powerful spellcaster when played well can be tricky till you get the hang of them.
IMO the most fun spellcaster in the game.
Unique class advantage fast casting.

Since you have a secondary class you can always set that for healing by choosing */monk or maybe */ritualist

For high damage as well as survivability, Assassin/Monk.

All you need is:
Jagged Strike (Lead attack)
Fox Fangs (Offhand Attack)
Death Blossom (Dual attack)
Flashing Blades (Elite stance for defense) You can get this skill early in game as well. From the quest here or here.
Critical Agility (Increased attack spell PvE skill from Nightfall)
Strength and Honor (monk smiting spell, adds +16 damage with 8 points on every attack)
Optional skill (I suggest PvE skills like Asuran Scan for extra damage or defense skills like Viper's Defense or Shroud of Distress)
Resurrect skill

It's a very easy build, it's well defensive and deals good damage, perfect for beginners. You can also cast Strength and Honor on melee allies to increase their damage as well.

For healing/support/damage. Run the Elementalists ER infuse, but it's a very, very hard build and I suggest getting comfortable with Guild Wars before attempting the build. If you want to jump in as healer/support/damage, Ritualist is the way to go!

Your criteria don't narrow it down all that much. With all the buffs ArenaNet has added to the game it isn't hard to survive, nor are any professions without damage dealing potential (granted, some are better at it then others). Deciding whether you want to play melee, ranged physical, or caster would be a good starting point.

All three melee professions would suit you (just stack on damage buffs, spam attack skills, and hit as much stuff as you can to deal lots of damage). Dervishes are a bit weaker than Assassins and Warriors right now but they're getting buffed sometime.

Ranged physicals (Rangers and Paragons) don't deal as much damage as the other two groups. I've never played a Paragon but they look fairly one dimensional. Chuck your spear at things and spam your chants/shouts when they recharge, not to mention people will expect you to run the same build all the time. Rangers, while less powerful, offer a lot of build variety. They can use a variety of builds, including scythe, spear, and dagger builds for when you feel like a change from the bow.

Casters differ widely. I'd go for a Rit or a Necromancer because they have a lot of build variety. Mesmers may be fun too, but it's up to whether you find that kind of thing fun.

If you want to play a caster you should roll a Necromancer.
They can do huge damage using their primary profession as Death or Curses. They have excellent support options to make their teammates do huge damage in Blood. They are incredibly versatile and can run basically any caster build (heal or damage) reasonably well using Soul Reaping as energy management.
