Hey all I've been looking to move off of this small 24" monitor and move on to something a bit bigger. I've been looking at some plasma TV's with a PC port and was wondering if anyone is already doing this, and if they are, is there any issues I need to be concerned about (ie image burning, things to stay away from, etc...)?

This is currently the tv I've been looking at:

Any thoughts?

I'm not horribly expernienced with this particular thing however my friend has done it and when I went to their place to try and play some games I noticed there was like a second or two delay that really bugged me...
This could have just been him setting it up wrong though which I wouldn't doubt but just sayin is all.

Plasma TVs have better response time than the avg LCD, and they look great in dark rooms, if you game in a brightly lit room though, it may be a little washed out when compared to a LCD. Everyone is different, but if I game on my living room LCD (42") it tends to give me a headache after awhile...... it's def. better if I stay across the room with a wireless keyboard/mouse, but then I have a hard time seeing text etc. ingame at native resolution (1080p). :/

Apparently it's 40 USD cheaper here: http://www.techdepot.com/pro/product...ductid=6753990

I don't like plasma TV's for gaming. :x It's a personal preference but I feel like any HD plasma TV is laggy. -shrug- I also still use a 15/19" monitor so I'm a bit behind in the times. >< As for anything you should be worried about, I'd say so long as you calibrate your TV after you set it up and take a break/set up the screensaver you should be fine. You could experience some image retention but it'll usually go away after a while. :] Imaging burning isn't as common as people think it is. So long as you take care of your TV you should be fine.

I did a bit of searching and found this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=608677 It's a FAQ for plasma TV + gaming. http://www.beststuff.com/audiovideo/...or-lcd-tv.html is another good link to read.

Image burn-in can be a problem with plasma TVs, so don't leave it showing the desktop, or other static image for too long.

I have an PC connected to my 47" LCD TV. I find it great for watching videos and shows on-line. I don't find it all that good for gaming though. Given the relative seating position, the need for a wireless keyboard/mouse, and the small text size at 1920x1080, it's actually more comfortable to play games on this PC with the 22" LCD.
It's great surfing YouTube from the LazyBoy, but not gaming.

"Too long" = 100's of hours. We have monitors like this at work. Took them about 6 months of 24/7 usage to start showing problems. Plasma don't last that long, but it should still be several weeks of 24/7 usage showing one image to do it.

^He's right, y'know. Image burn was a problem in the early days of plasma but the problem is almost insignificant now.

You could always go LCD - zero burn in on those beasties

I agree that while it would seem to be nice to have a huge screen, the delay with a wireless keyboard/mouse setup would drive me nuts. I know people who tell me that I am crazy to think I can notice any delay, but it is there for me. But if you already use a wireless setup, then go for it.

100% spot on for the way I feel about TV gaming as well.

Actually, I'd have to say that I don't notice any delay when using the wireless keyboard. I think, however, that that may depend upon the model and age of the keyboard/mouse. (I'm using some new-ish generic Microsoft set.)
My keyboard/mouse problem with playing GW on the TV is more related to the awkward positioning of the keyboard and mouse. I could solve that by setting up some sort of a tray/table, but it's just easier to use the PC.
Of course, using a console or playing a PC game like Crysis with a game controller, works well enough. But anything that requires a mouse and keyboard is not fun.

Plus, I forgot to mention the hassle of trying to connect a mic/headset to use Ventrilo.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I was thinking of the small text issues on a screen that large, and sitting back 6-8 feet, and the issues of connection keyboard/mice/headset, but the good thing is that they are already wireless as is. I don't know yet if I plan on just using it as my primary monitor or keeping my existing monitor and using the giant plasma for just watching movies and what not. I've just gotta figure it out.

Ended up going with an Led-LCD 55" as I got a great deal on 1. The only issue is that the color does seem a bit off on it, and it is a bit massive, but it sure is pretty. And trying to read the text in the chat logs is a bit rough, but you do get use to it after an hour or so of it.
