How not to get scammed this wintersday!
Faer
That sort of behavior should be discouraged, as it is also a form of scamming, and many bans have been handed out for it over the years. Do not fight scamming with scamming. Not only is it against the rules, but if such behavior spreads, it will make the Guild Wars community look bad.
We must fight violations in ways that are encouraged by ArenaNet. Those ways, of course, include sending emails to Support, or using the in-game report feature.

Even with this thread they're still trying it. Responded to a "WTS WD Gifts - 5 stacks 100k" and, sure enough, it was Special Presents. Had an interesting conversation with the scammer...

Makes me wonder how anyone can fall for these. In 2005 with primitive trade sure, but now Not only does it show you when someone changes the offer it also displays explicit text of whats in the trade if you are too lazy to hover your mouse over it.
but i guess if people didnt fall for it, people wouldnt do it
Angel Killuminati
In all my years of playing GW I've never been scammed during trade. Open your eyes people and just READ.
Snograt
Neither have I, Angel - and after 5+ years, this was the first time someone even tried.

Put 6 Frozen Ecto in next time and see what he says.

I made a post there but as always my thread got closed.
Maybe people like you(people who hang out at guru) knew about Special Gifts but i didn't know until recently, and i would say most players aren't aware of this.
Anet really need to fix this, make the quest items not tradeable or change the icon. How hard could it be to change the color of the box or the ribbon?

This forum is a good resource to keep abreast of stuff like this, so I encourage you to stick around.
(too bad this thread got buried prematurely...)

You can also teach scammer a lesson. :P maybe he didnt lose much. but all the time he spent getting 1000 presents for 80g. Priceless. |
And why would you have 1000 Special Presents at first place? Just in case you encounter a scammer???
Anet really should fix the Special Gift icon if there are that many scammers in GW.

I think thats stupid... because that scammer would have resold all 1000 presents, and probably made more to sell.

@Winry, im sorry but how in the hell do you buy 20 stacks without noticing they are special presents??

i dont think you read the SS correctly. It was someone trying to sell him Prezies and then he decided to 'scam' him back by trading 80g instead of 80k.

I bought them because i thought they were Wintersday Gifts cos they looks identical to Wintersday Gifts and that's what the seller was advertising, and I didn't even know Speical Presents existed back then.
Reason i made that thread was cos i tried to selling em for a test n many people offered cash n accepted em. i.e. it seems like its VERY easy to sell em. I listed some examples on my thread.

Hello, I was able to find a violation by reviewing the game logs of the incident and the account was suspended. Thank you for submitting your report and helping keep Guild Wars a fun and safe place to play. Regards, GM FruitSnake The Guild Wars Support Team |

I'm not sure whether scamming is worth a total ban (though I would) - but then again, it doesn't say how long the suspension is for...

I quit this dodgy game for a while after i got scammed ~500k on winterday gifts(scammer sold me speical presents instead).. obviously i didn't even know special presents existed until i got scammed.
Anet has changed the color to BLUE for the special presnets(quest item).
thanks anet, its already too late for me now n for many others... maybe use your brain a bit next time?

They shouldn't be banned at all. You consciously submit offer and hit accept. Anet has even made the text appear if your too dam lazy to scroll over and read. Its 100% your fault if you fall for this or any of these scams.
I cant beleive you could be banned for doing that. What does that fall under, false advertising?? I say WTS Wintersday Gifts and sell you something else. Wow.
Its terrible people take advantage of people this way, but jesus how can you fall for this stuff. 5 years ago with the super primitive trade system, maybe. But now you get giant red text when they change offer, and every item is spelled out in the window. Then when you accept, the entire text of the trade is in the chat. How can you possible not notice any of that and fall for it over and over and over?
dunno why these people whine on these forums and res old threads. It sucks that that happened to you, but seriously what more can they can they do for you? Have text to speech read you the trade items? dam.

If these are Special Presents, the seller's ONLY intent can possibly be to scam buyers who confuse them for Wintersday Gifts. Special Presents are completely and utterly worthless. There is no reason to buy them for even 1g, and the seller knows this. This is plain old scamming, hoping to catch people who are confused and don't know the difference between Presents and Gifts. |

I still do not understand what the seller 'intent' has to do with it. If i open trade window with you, and want to sell you a quest item that is 100% completely useless to you, and you put up some cash and hit accpet, how have i scammed you?
This is just trading and some stupid people who are too lazy to even glance at trade window and read.
But yeah your right, no need to revamp this argument.
