I'm trying to understand how this works, and I'm not sure if it's just that I have difficulties with the damage equations and thus am getting distracted, or what... but the "simple" answer I'm seeking seems to be buried somewhere and I'm overlooking it.

At level 20, we cease gaining levels, but we apparently continue to add to our damage multiplier - http://wiki.gtm.guildwars.com/wiki/Level_cap

That table ends at "effective level 33" - meaning how many times you've added 15,000XP beyond level 20. It stops there, doesn't continue to exponentially carry out the damage multiplier. Is that just because no one bothered to, or because the cap on the multiplier is 1.966?

I guess the basic thing I'm trying to find out is if, at the over 1,500,000XP I already have, I am doing the maximum amount of damage I can (assuming all things being buffed - max damage skills/weapons/etc.), or is my damage multiplier still increasing every time I gain another 15,000XP.

Does that make sense?

It seems to me that many foes in areas I repeat a few times are getting "easier" - and I'm not clear on if that's just because I'm learning to use my builds more effectively, or because I am actually doing an increased amount of damage.

I suspect there's an easy answer I've overlooked...

The simple answer to what you are missing is:

Quote:
A character's (or NPC's) damage output is directly linked to their current level.

Ya, pretty much what Dzjudz said. Here's the site you really want to look at:

Then I must be dense, because that doesn't seem to tell me anything...

If that's true, then at level 20, with like 150,000 XP, I'd be doing the maximum damage I possibly could... yet according to that table, the damage multiplier continues to increase beyond level 20... and there is no actual level beyond 20, or so we've been told.

According to the game, I'm level 20.

Mathematically, I'm level 88. So is THAT the level referred to in the quote you provided?

And if so, what kind of damage multiplier am I working with at level 88, versus what I was working with when I first hit level 20?

What it means is that NPCs such as enemies may spawn at a level higher than 20 and thus have a higher damage multiplier.

No, you are a level 20. You can not go beyond level 20. They have the other levels because NPC's are capable of reaching those levels so they show the damage that those NPC's at those levels can do. You max out at level 20 so anything above level 20 is unobtainable for your character. Hope that helps.

You will not ever get past lvl 20. That table shows for NPCs as well that's the reason for the higher levels. You DO NOT get more damage just because you get more XP past 20.

The reason the table ends at lvl33 is because the highest level observed on any creature (NPC) in the game is (was) 33. That Norn Catering quest they added a level 36 dinosaur into the mix so the table is a bit outdated now.

But yea i didnt understand that either now i do only npcs go higher then lvl 20 and get the post lvl 20 dmg multipliers.

The fact that you "feel" or "think" or even "your perspective" that the mobs are getting easier maybe cause you getting more skills unlocked and are using more effective builds, becuase that is what gw boils down to Strategy and Builds. but just my opinion dont hate the players hate the game

Disclaimer: I feel this post answered maybe a few questions the newbs might have, but alas if the mods think this is not an answer please delete or send a pm and ill remove mean no harm ever only to Q&A

ok think of it this way - mr warrior can max his sword mastery at 16 say by level 16 and he will do max dmg from his skills.Same can be said for lvl 20 war with sword at 16 - the difference as stated is foes as they continue to rise in levels which means their attributes ( bosses deal x2 dmg regardless ) will also rise as foes have a different lvl cap to us.
Proof would be to look at pvp where everyone is lvl 20 and regardless of how much xp they have - they deal same dmg.If this was different then my sin with over 20 million xp would be running around gw taking everything on solo - no chance of that lol .
