Hi All,
I have recently created a new Prophecies Char. Have got as far as Lions and decided to carry on my character in Cantha due to wanting to get to HzH.
Anyway I have been informed that being closer to the stars is similar to Ascension and i'm wondering in what way/when does this happen? Am I closer to the stars after the quest or the Nahpui Quarter mission?
Thank you for any information (I have looked just only find information about the quest!)
closer to the stars?

Closer to the Stars is the Factions equivalent of Ascension. They do the same thing. It occurs after you complete the Nahpui Quarter mission.

But as my char is originally from Prophecies will I be able to be closer to the stars? or is this only the case when my char is in Factions? When I am back in Tyria will I still be closer to the stars (ascended)?

I'm pretty sure you have to do the Prophecies version of ascension, but I could be wrong.

Yes, a Prophecies character can become Closer to the Stars. I hear that doing so means you won't get the 50,000 xp reward for ascending in Prophecies, but xp doesn't matter unless you're a survivor. Ascension/CttS is a character thing so it doesn't matter which campaign you're in. The missions (Nahpui at least) are still requirements for advancing the storyline regardless of what you've done in the other campaigns.

idk, i made a factions character and tried to "ascend" through nightfall and it didnt work, maybe i did something wrong tho?

closer to the stars..... ascension..... same thing, but if possible try to do the prophecies ascension first so you get the 50k exp
as far as NF.... completion of the Hunted! quest allows you to change professions, but if i read properly, its only for NF characters

There are different benefits to ascension. As the wiki explains it, non-exclusive benefits, such as profession changing and gaining access to FoW and UW, become available to a Prophecies character who becomes Weh No Su by completing Nahpui Quarter mission.
But that character will not have access to the attribute point quests or to the Dragon's Lair mission or Tomb of the Primeval Kings until they have completed the Ascension quest at Augury Rock.

Only Elonian characters can gain the non-exclusive benefits of ascension (that is, changing secondary and access to the Realms of the Gods) by completing Hunted! in Elona.

Sure, you can't access the Dragon's Lair mission, since you'd lack physical access to the outpost, but you can do the attribute point quests with a Tyrian character that is Weh No Su but not Ascended yet.
The first quest in the Desert can even be completed before any form of Ascension. Tyrian-born Weh No Su characters can also do the second quest no problem, provided they get to Droknar's Forge somehow.
