I got hacked

Yes this is another anet is fail lets people romp off with 300k pure gold 41 gem sets 25e 60shards salvage all the valuable runes off my armor, salvage two sets of vabbian, salvage or sell 4 destroyer weapons, make off with 50 cons sets and other wise loot my account. Isnt there a hmm this person might be trading too much for jack didly STOP!!!

I am honestly fairly depressed about getting my account robbed blind while at work. Hell only two of my toons still have armor thats not missing at least the chest piece.

I don't know how i got hacked, I've never shared my guild wars login, i have avg that scans once a day and i scan everything before I run it and I don't have anything pointless on my computer. Visual Studio, Works, Eve. Evemon, Guild Wars, itunes and Chrome. I think ANet has a massive security hole coated with a layer of incompetence.

I am disappointed, to say the least.

Most likely that you have given someone your info and you have forgotten or that you have a keylogger that avg hasn't detected

There are many ways to get hacked and sometimes you can get hacked and that hacker then tries to log you into most mmo`s and then steal your stuff - i dont think theres many actual just "gw hackers" for that reason.
Long time ago i got hacked and after a bit of snooping around with my guildies it was discovered that me being hacked was due to something i hadnt done.Another member who had me on msn had found out day before i was hacked he was having problems with msn and was discovered that his msn account was being hacked and luckily he managed to get it fixed.As i was on contacts my pc somehow got hacked and i was booted out of msn , kicked from gw and unable to reboot into windows.
I eventually got pc going and via support got account back - now heres the weird thing , i never have gone near WoW and when i checked my email account i was getting a few wow emails and several off other mmo`s.
Now ive never looked at 3rd party software , go on dodgy sites for gw or other stuff and neither did i give out to ppl my login details.
Hacker got my email addy which sadly was also used for gw - they then took over my msn and hotmail - did a forgot login bit on gw and were sent login details this was before anet added chr name - and it was sent to my damn email account which i couldnt access because hacker changed login.
You can see how easy it was for the hacker at that time to get my details.
What you must learn is often even when you get hacked sometimes it can be from an outside source ( and everyone will auto assume you been downloading dodgy 3rd party software ) like msn contacts list , a mates email list etc and no matter how hard we try and be secure some sod will find a way round it.

Just be glad that your chars are still there. - And that you weren't richer than that

If everything you lost was stuff that could be in the HOM then you have lost little.
Personally I spend all I can these days so a hacker will get little or nothing of worth.

Second anet are in a pretty powerless position when it comes to hacking.]
They cannot easily examine your system or internet records at the time of the hack.
Even if they work out you were offline and it was a different IP address that accessed the account it proves nothing.

I guess if I wanted to I could give someone the details to my account then report it to anet as a hacker and if anet returned everything could share the goodies.

One report here of hey anet just returned all my elite armous and ectos after I was hacked would lead to thousands of hey anet I was hacked reports.

Its annoying its frustrating but no internet company is ever going to do something that could potentially be caused by poor security on the part of the user.

ANet is not responsible for account security. It's you and NCSoft.

However I hope you registered most of you stuff in the hom, then such a loss doesn't hurt that much. GW2 is probably well underway and once it hits the store, most players of the original will move on - and hope for a better security system powered by NCSoft.

If someone hacked me and looted all my stuff I seriously couldn't be bothered less (unless my beautiful Outcast.. I'd be pretty sad if they stole that one).. Ok, it would be kind of a bummer, but I got friends and guildies who would prolly help me going again.. My biggest concern would be if it's just a guy looking for money, or a plain f*cking asshole, because some hackers also delete all your accounts. I can understand if they act out of greed (although it's still pretty sad) but deleting all your characters and your entire progression through the game proves they are people with low self-esteem who have probably been bullied in life and are now reflecting this behavior in cyber space. I'd be pretty pissed off, and don't know if I could do everything again.. But then again I could probably borrow a guildies alt account that has some progression on it so far..
If someone like that comes along you could at least take comfort in the fact that they are the most sad personalities in this world, and that they most likely have a very small penis.
And, you should indeed be happy that it isn't that much, they stole about 800k there if I'm not mistaking. It's easy to make that amount again in a pretty little amount of time..

EDIT: and I just saw you're from DL, so I take it that you have some friends there, and DL is about one of the best guilds to make money fast. Do some UW, DoA most preferably and you'll be just fine. And I know some people in DL that are rich enough to help you out...

I love the way you get told by them they cannot get you anything back, because they cannot follow trades etc, uh huh, im willing to bet if someone got into Gails account and took that frog, Anet would hunt it down in about 10 minutes, and a ban put in place, but when its your run of the mill players who have put thousands of hours into it, they cant do anything to help.

I think that before anyone buys GW2, we all need to make sure that the security of the game is up to scratch,

As for some people having there toons deleted, why not introduce an option ingame that ( cannot be undone ) giving you the option to make it that a toon cannot be deleted, lets face it some people will have 3 or 4 toons that they will never delete, so why not take away that risk factor and make them undeletable, that way in the event some low life scum bag gets into your account, the worst they can do it steal stuff that can be replaced, and not wipe out 3-5 years worth of playing.

But yea, why do people use an email address for there GW, that they put all over facebook/bebo/myspace/MSN etc etc etc, make it an email address that no one knows, and that you dont use anywhere else, there half the battle right there.

That's a pretty bad argument imo. Hunting down those 3 frogs wouldn't even take the least of effort, because there are only 3 of them. But, vabbian armor, gold, materials etc.. There is just no way they can hunt those things down...

But indeed, the security should go up in GW2. And, I wouldn't be bothered to be able to lock my ele, ssin, monk and mes for ever... Especially my ele, making a new GWAMM etc would bust my nuts.. -.-

Blizzard does it every day with millions more players. Items have unique codes, gold/plat transferred between accounts leaves trails, trade logs are easily searchable to find where items went and who the hacker gave items to. ANet simply does not have the manpower to do it, so they say they can't.

Remember how they claimed (for years) it was impossible to change names or appearance, then added in micro-transactions to do them? It was never impossible, they just didn't want to do it. Same thing here. Don't assume that the company not having enough manpower to track down hacked items means that the actual tracking down part is impossible.

He`s right - i had help after getting my account back by my guildies - i was almost at realm of torment and hacker had deleted all my chrs and my friends in guild helped me complete nf within a few days - some even offered me weapons and cash which i declined - the part which annoyed me most wasnt losing items ( all could be replaced ) nor the small amount of cash i had - around 30k but the fact the hacker deleted my chrs which would have been almost 4 yrs old now and because of that i was set back 8 months on my chrs.Sounds daft but out of everything in gw birthdays cannot be replaced.

There are always ( well usually ) 2 victims when an account gets hacked - the accounts owner and the idiot who buys the hacked account after.

We're very sory for you, but discussing your situation will lead nowhere good.

Believe me, the last 236 threads on the subject weren't pretty.
