Haven't done anymore work on my Monk yet...had to quickly finish writing an article for GuildMag and then was working a bunch. I think I'm going to leave it for a bit since the idea of starting those tattoos is a bit daunting o.o

So new WIP, worked on for about an hour so far. Yes, I know, the face looks really weird, I'm working on it

Nice start. I love the hair so far.

And yeah I know what you mean about monk tattoos. that's prolly why I rarely draw my monk lol

But those tattoo designs are so awesomeeeeee.

Like the half-face view on the mesmer here.

She is not actually a Mesmer, though I will admit that part of why I initially liked Mesmers in GW was because I've always had a fascination with masks, both actual, physical masks and the emotional/psychological ones that people hide behind (and I am definitely one of those people who does that). Thanks though

rofl, i'm doing the tattoo designs for Nix in my comic, and I've decided that they would just change with each panel XD

She looks great, I especially like her eye and hair!

Thanks It was fun to make ^^

So I'm working on my sylvari costume because ACen is this weekend, and I kind of need to get it finished already...dress is not ready enough for pictures, but I just finished (mostly) the wig!

Looks kind of bleh from the front right now, since I have the bangs pinned back to dry so that they'll be less in the way...

From the side and back, though, looks better.

It's not what I originally wanted to do, but what I originally wanted wasn't something I'd be able to pull off with this wig. Still looks damn cute, though, I think!

Ooooooh I love the wig! Looks very elegant and elfish!

Now I'm curious to see what the outfit will look like all together. Take some picturesss~

Dress is finished; looks kinda meh on a hanger, but on it looks awesome.

I've yet to try on everything all together, but there'll be pictures of me in full costume next week.

Now I need to find my green costume makeup...

So I am in the process of re-reading The Hero and the Crown for the hundredth time, and I felt the sudden desire to paint the main character, Aerin. Here's ~25 minutes of progress -

It'll make more sense if you've read the book

And yes, it is a great book - it's been a favorite of mine for about fifteen years now. Aerin herself is one of my favorite fictional characters from a novel ^^

All finished! I was going to do closeups but Photoshop went "ahhh no I don't think so". The PSD for this is 240MB o.o

Felt the need to make something, but lacked the patience to draw. After several attempts that had me wanting to pitch my computer out the window, I finally succeeded.

Wow I don't quite understand how you did that. I've only seen one type of fractals and this is on a whole different level.

I love the colors and the darkness and the burning center. Made me think of a Kurzick cathedral with an ornate glass ceiling.

I love fractals, so I'm always looking up new techniques with them. That particular one is based on this tutorial
. I use Apophysis 7x, which is completely free (and open source), and there are tons of plugins for it. It's really a lot of fun to play with

Edit: Another one that I did:

you really have a knack for these... they are awesome! I find the usual fractal stuff too in-your-face but these are so subtle and elegant

Thanks for sharing the tut! Those could be really interesting to use as backgrounds or ideas for paintings. Your fractals make me think of all kinds of painting compositions that I'd never get around to anyway lol. But I can dream...

And I love fractals. There's just something exhilarating about making them - art out of math! There's tons of different ways to make them and looks for them, I'm just stuck on this particular type because I've never done it before. Usually I go for the smoother type

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't feel that way each to their own, I guess xD you're certainly making it work!

It's fun

(the program does the math, not you )

So, bored and in a bad mood. Grabbed some stuff off my desk to sketch out, just quick sketches that I spent about 10 minutes each on. As you can see, I gave up on my phone.

Haha, thanks

So, was itching to draw something...went through a few ideas that were tossed out (including a sylvari and Tommy's Monk, Lucy) before I settled on this.

Yes, I am a Sailormoon fangirl. And that reference image on the side is scanned out of my own artbook (which now goes for several hundred dollars on ebay...never, ever selling that thing!)

Still a very preliminary sketch; there's stuff that I already plan on adjusting. Her right hand (which is mostly hidden) I may just remove entirely or redraw so it's resting on the balcony rail, not sure yet.

Edit: Changed things up a bit (as well as adding more detail to the dress) and I'm a lot happier with the pose now.

The face in the first wip looks perfect, yet you seem to let go of it a bit in the painting! You can always keep the sketch on top and block in the first colors so you have the proportions down right away. Secondly I would suggest to use more reds in the skin, I think that would add to the sweat peach look I believe Sailermoon girls are to have (I wouldn't know really, I don't know the slightest thing about Sailermoon ). Looking forward to the finished result!

Btw those fractals look really cool. Better then in the tutorial imo!

I've been keeping the lines mostly visible while painting, I've barely done any work on the face besides blocking in the main shadows I had the lines hidden right then because I had been working on the dress last (I'm just jumping all over with this) and my sketches were too messy to paint through with that.

Thanks

Did a little bit more work, mostly just did the eyes and lips and messed with the shading a bit. Trying to decide how "real" I want to go for the hair and stuff, though. Hmm.

Thank you! The hand actually gave me a lot of trouble, I'm really not very good with them.

Latest update:

I haven't actually done any painting in the past couple of days, I've been working, updating my resume, and writing stuff for my GW/GW2 blog.

Thats starting to look very good verene! Her elbow, her hand, the face, they all look very real. Her chest looks a bit brought, perhaps slim it down a little bit, or more the shoulderclothparts very puffy so that her body might look smaller.
