I'm kind of a freak with these kinds of things. Does anyone have a list of items in Pre-Searing Ascalon or does anyone know what items to get or pick up before leaving?

Just enjoy it until youve had enough, anything available there can shortly be got in post searing too. I spose you could go get a belt pouch and charr backpack in ready.

There is nothing in pre-searing that you can't obtain in post-searing*. It may be convienient to do all the skill quests for your profession here as you may have to pay for them later. All the weapons and armor is inferior to what you will find later. There are some unique items like the Charr Bag but those are also replicable. Don't stress about leaving things behind. For a first time player, getting to level 7-8 is a pretty good indication you've done everything you can do, and is a good time to leave.

*With one exception: the Tapestry Shred.

I was the same way, wishing I'd known what to take and what to leave behind. People kept telling me I wouldn't really need anything once I got to post... and I kept thinking, "yeah, but..."

I spent several weeks in pre, got to lvl12 before I left. Here's a few thoughts on the whole thing...

1. If you're pretty sure you'll want another Prophecies toon later, or are REALLY worried about what to take/leave... start another Prophecies toon before you leave pre, and give what you're not taking with to it. If you find you need those things later, it's easy enough to bring that toon over to post and pass the stuff off to your older toon via the account-wide storage chest.

2. Some of the Nick GOTH things can be handy in post, and get you a nice little chunk of change to start you off. The caveat to this is the fact that a change in the Wintersday quest rewards has massively dropped the price of alcohol/party/sweets in post-searing, so you may be better off selling those items in pre. I don't know what those things are currently selling for in pre, but I can tell you that in post - alcohol minutes are being sold at about 25g/EFFECTIVE minute (so 25g or 75g depending on if it is a 1 or 5 minute drink). Sweets are sitting between 80g-120g/point - if they're spammable (meaning you can hit them one right after the other). Party points are about the same if spammable... tonics have dropped drastically. It's not a seller's market right now, that's for sure.

3. Dyes drop at a ridiculously high rate in pre versus in post. On the other hand, dyes can be bought at dye traders in post so there's somewhat less demand for anything but black and white. For me, it was worth it to bring my dyes to post... I haven't had to pay for dye for my armor/weapons, and I have a nice stack going of each color to share with friends when they need it.

4. CRAFTING MATERIALS. This is one thing I do wish I'd done. Especially anything that salvages into iron ingots, dust, feathers and granite. You're getting a lot of worthless drops in pre, but by salvaging them, they can turn into a nice chunk of change in post. Stack of iron goes for around 4-5k. Feathers 10-12k. Granite 10-12k. Dust 4-5k. All that stuff worth 20g or less that is dropping around you constantly, it all salvages into something. Look it up on the Wiki, figure out what salvages into what, and start making stacks of the more valuable common crafting materials. Also check to see what your first armor upgrade will "cost" in crafting materials - and gather those items as well.

5. Collector armor. I'd have kept mine if I'd been smart. As someone else said, it can turn out to be useful later.

If you don't already know, then I'll tell you that once you get to post you can buy access to a storage chest for 50g. You can buy a pane within that storage chest specifically for crafting materials for another 50g. So you WILL have plenty of room to store things once you move over... as such, don't be afraid to load your toon up with stuff before you go into the Academy. You'll have a place to put it once you get to the other side. Do what feels right to you, not what anyone else "tells" you to do. And yeah, a lot of people are going to tell you "don't bother bringing stuff with." That's fine for them, fine for how they play... you only need to worry about how YOU play!

This is just what I wish I had done differently, or what worked for me. It's a matter of personal preference.

I should also mention... the trading market in post-Ascalon is all but useless. Very little trading going on between players there. So you may find that you have a VERY hard time selling anything to others until you make your way to Lion's Arch. This is why you're probably better off selling most things in pre before you leave.

You are better off selling your unopened pre-Nicholas gifts in pre. The gold will come in very useful in post; much more so than the sweet and party points.

To do this you would require another account and GW Multi Launch as there is no storage in Pre , easier to get a guildy to help out with their Pre toon or making one for you Happy New Year to everyone btw
