Combining accounts
Patrisha MacFarlane
I dunno if this idea has been brought up or not, as I am not a regular poster on Guru (I even lost the login details of my previous account), but I have no doubts that it is has been brought up before. So for my own sanity:
I started playing when the game came out in its first beta formats, then picked up the final as soon as it hit shelves. Back then, we couldn't add character slots. If you wanted to try every profession, you had to buy another account, which I did. And I added each and every new release to those accounts.
Now, years have passed since we can purchase new char slots, which I've done a.. ahem "few" times... Having two accounts is getting to be a pain, especially with HoM concerns.
My suggestion (and hope), is that ANet will allow us who have multiple accounts to make a one time move of characters from our second (or third accounts) to our main account, provided we have an open character slot available, so we don't have to juggle accounts any longer.
Note I said ONE time move. You can move each character ONCE, and ONE time only.

Wow i never thought of that but its a good idea.

I can see why people who have used two accounts might want this, but it would be another regressive move allowing people to buy their way into a full HoM by buying used accounts. Would Anet care? I don't know. But getting GWAMM and a full HoM is made easier all the time.
Most people I know with more than one account because of the early restrictions have either always considered one their main or worked both accounts up to a good HoM status (as you can run 2 accounts at the same time this is barely more difficult than doing one).
I think the downside of this outweighs any value it might have to a very few people.

Adding this would make buying 50/50 HoM too easy. Right now, if you want to do it, you at least have to go through the hassle of playing on a new account and the risk of getting it stolen back.

Not a bad idea, I just see a few problems with it.
With the HoM, it is an account wide thing. They would have to transfer and combine all the achievements and sort through the doubles on each account to have to combine the two HoM. Not sure how they would do that, and if they did that, which characters would be the contributors if there is doubles. Take for instance, if on one account, a character has dedicated a Tormented Longbow. On the other account, a character has dedicated a Tormented Longbow. Who would overwrite who? And if it does only accept one, who's Longbow will be undedicated or will both be dedicated even though only one is in there?
As well, what about your Chest? If one account is full and the other account is full (Xunlai chest wise), how would you go about transferring the items from one chest to the next? They couldn't give you double the tabs to hold everything. Only solution to that issue would to be to pull everything from your chest and put it on your characters. Otherwise, one account is going to lose a lot of items from the chest since the spaces will be taken up by other items from the other account.
Otherwise, it's not a bad idea. Just a few things that need to be figured out first.

It would be just easier to allow multiple accounts to be linked to the same GW2 account, and their efforts united into a single HoM, even when they appear separately in GW1 HoM calculator.

/notsigned enough stuff/titles can already be bought play the game you may even enjoy yourself

People keep saying "play the game" as if that was the only thing keeping people with multiple accounts from achieving HOM goals. Most of those goals are nothing but grinding! If you actually "played" the game, you would never reach any of them! Take for example soul reaping elites on a monk, why, during the course of normal play, would a monk ever need soul reaping elites? Let alone ALL soul reaping elites?
Reminds me of someone who ones told me getting a GWAMM was easy... When I asked how many hours they had in game, their response was a mere 4000+!!!
Back on topic...
I am one of those who bought a second account back in 2005, to play a mesmer no less! I think the only issue I have is that it would be difficult to implement a just/fair solution for all. What about people like me who now have 20 characters? Would we have 40 slots in a single account? What about storage issues? How would you deal with things like mini's, armors, etc?
I think this would be far too problematic and resolve little for the majority of the community.
I much rather have them fix some titles, like skill hunter, etc.

Assuming the accounts were purchased by the person wishing to combine them what's the problem.
You buy a second copy of the game and you can merge or have it on a second account that is the initial option.
Since you played the characters and gained the rewards merging them later on would seem reasonable.
You could clear space for the new characters by deleting characters or buying slots on the host account then merge in the new account.
I would say whatever the characters are carrying should transfer and anything in storage lost, it would probably cause too many problems merging the storage.
One proviso and that is if and only if it doesn't take a lot of time and effort by anet to make it happen.

Just gonna do some numbers here, and I'll be using Steam's value for campaigns instead of the official online store, since I've already got all the campaigns and therefore can't see the prices.
The GotY edition of GW Prophecies can be purchased for about 20 bucks. If you turn it into a new account and move the characters/slots under this suggestion, that would allow you to easily nab bulk character slots at half the price. To balance that, the price on campaigns would probably rise to be worth more like the true value of the character slots, which I don't see happening, or the character slot prices would sink, making buying storage upgrades even more senseless.
I don't suppose the number of people who would really benefit from something like this (in the legitimate sense of wanting to actually transfer characters from one place to another) is huge, and I see the prospects of ruin for this (hacked accounts having characters and slots moved entirely rather than just items, tie-ups in Support) being very much so.
