Wintersday Gifts = too easy to Scam

I've played GW for long and i don't get scammed easily, but i got done ~12hrs ago.

I'm posting this so others won't get scammed like me, n maybe hopefully anet will be more careful so people can't get scammed.

"Dark Opressxxx"(changed his ign a bit) was spamming WTS Wintersday Gifts 25k/stack at LA, n i bought ~20 stacks. But they were actually Special Gifts(quest item), and i did NOT even know such a thing existed until i wikied. So wasted more time making report to Anet.. not much point since he has 3/50 hom.

I don't understand why Anet made the quest item look identical and tradeable? I mean if Anet made Special Ecto(n they looked identical to real ectos) as quest item, how many people would get scammed?

I'm sure many people already know this but i wasn't aware of this 12 hours ago, and many people in my allinace didn't know about them. And also i JUST tried to selling em in LA(for test) and people just offered me cash in trade n accepted. So i pmed em "Fake, look!" and did not accept the trade, and they thanked me. so this is just warning for all.

That's why you mouse over stuff before you hit "accept". Make sure you're getting what you're paying for.

Well since Anet hasn't done anything about it, AND many people are still easily offering cash for em, i think another warning wouldn't hurt.

1) take out his ign. Don't care what he did it's against the rules

3) This is pretty much a buyers beware situation. You got scammed. Don't QQ about. Pay more attention next time.


Dosen't matter. Even when trading ectos I triple check that they are indeed ectos.

Simple answer is "i did NOT even know such a thing existed until i wikied", since they looked identical i thought they were the advertised item.

I just don't want others to get scammed because i really hate scammers. I just offered em to a dude in LA(he bought 50000+ stacks of Wintersday Gifts) n even he just accepted em.

Changed scammers ign so people don't know what it is, but have rough idea, i hope thats ok.

sorry you got scammed but look on wiki for these kinds of things. and pay attention.. even if im buying an el tonic or something that doesnt ahve a related skin i make sure and hover over what it says to make sure what im buying is legit.

so just pay attention :P

Well the problem is i'm confident that i can sell back ~20 stacks of Special Gifts in less than 30mins if i wanted to. (i can be more tricky n offer real Wintersday Gifts at start and cancel trade and say full cash or something, etc)

If you're gonna make a thread and QQ about scamming don't say you're considering doing the same thing.

I'd say the the 25K loss was well-deserved.

Hmm this isnt a GW Art Contest thread, why am i getting flammed again?

And No i'm not trying to sell em back(that would be a scam), but i was just making a point that if i wanted to i could do it very easily... n that is a problem when there are heaps of scammers around imo.
