during canthan new year im giving away unid gold celestial weapons that i easily farm. the trick is however how to give them away. this will be the first district for anything ive ever hosted alone. so as you can imagine(hopefully) i dont want to have peeps randomly open trade and expect things.
some people offered a trade of sorts, a scavenger hunt, the more of such item you give me the more weapons you receive.
some also had riddles, but then i wouldnt get rid of them enough.
ideas?
recommended way of giving away things

You can do something like "The 1st person to show me X gets a prize." With "X" being an off-the-wall GW item, such as a tattered bear or a herring or some such thing. (People hang on to the wierdest things)
Trivia questions are always a staple. (But make the questions fun/interesting)

Hide and seek is fun. That is, I'll be in Cantha. Find me and I'll give you something. Then move to a new spot. Give hints maybe.
Just jump around from outpost to outpost changing districts along the way.

awry
Don't do trivia. somebody is going to pop open a web browser and google all your questions. If you want to do trivia you're going to have to structure your questions differently to make googling difficult. Instead of, "What is x", you're going to have to do, "what is x famous for" or "X did what relating to Y". And trivia is only fun when you don't have a district full of half wits/10 year olds who are just guess spamming. Good luck.

How I would do it is just party up with some low level characters or even high level if it doesn't matter to you and then during the quests/missions just drop your loot. Had this happen to me a few times and it is fun and you avoid any unwanted spam in the outposts.

Doing things differently to other players will be a lot harder - ive seen some do questions like mentioned and unless you have a trivia book getting questions is going to be hard.
And making fair can be just as hard - thinking can /rolldie ( whatever it is ) be used in shingjea outpost as you could get players wanting to take part to line up behind you - take head count then use ( say 50 players ) /rolldie 50 and the person whos number comes up gets a prize.
Asking for a random number in local wont work - someone may already be head counting the line.
Thats about all i can think of tbh an i dont know if its much help

More interesting than most the other suggestions
When I give away stuff (not during festivals...too busy participating), I always just say "Giving away free X-item to the first Y-profession lvl10 or lower to open trade"

/Signed, at least something that u need to show a random item would be fun.

Do the /rock /paper /scissors emotes work in general so two players can do it? Or is it just limited to the canthan new year mini-game? If people can use the e-motes against each other, combine methods:
1. You hide out in an unspecified outpost/town until player finds you.
2. Player must show you X and/or answer Y trivia and/or beat you at rock-paper-scissors.
3. Player gets gift
4. You move to new outpost/town. Rinse and repeat.
Hide a pattern in your location selection. Each time you switch locations, post in Guru thread previous location and winner. Once you win, you're out. Anyway, if I were doing a giveaway I'd either do something like this or just use Guru giveaway forum with random numbers to get posters playing the giveaway lotto kind of how Nerel ran a huge multi-week giveaway.

sometimes when im a lil bored il log onto my mule acc (low level no hom etc) and head into ascalon.
ill ask for help etc... [ie:where to go and advice on bar etc]
if someone genuinely attempts to help me i will reward them
the more effort toward helping me the bigger the reward
....
^^
one time some random dude fought with me all the way to yaks then tried to trade me 10k and some fair weps.
he was a happy man by the end of my endeavor il tell you that for nothing
