What the heck is the purpose for those peacekeepers?
Shadowlion
Got owned badly by them when I was trying to get to ToA. Since the henches are only level 12, why the heck do I have to fight so many level 20 mobs on the way?

They're part of the War in Kryta content, which is designed to be done by experienced players. If you don't have max armor, a good build, and properly equipped heroes, you're probably not ready for WiK. The peacekeepers (all the extra tough foes, actually) will go away if you abandon all WiK related quests.
An alternative is to play in HM to get level 20 henchmen, but I doubt they're up to those HM mobs unless you really know what you're doing.

I can understand if it was in NM with low lvl henchies, in that case it's best you go HM because it is much easier that way, ironically. Regardless, they are a pain since some of their builds are specifically for gimmick builds players run.
Rites
apparently you did pick up the WiK quest line tho, so either go HM or abandon the WiK storyline
Shadowlion
Nah I didn't have any of those quests.

Once you finish Prophecies, you are automatically place in the war in kryta storyline. The only way to get rid of them is to finish the war. Murro in LA has a quest that can guide you through it, but the war storyline cannot be abandoned.

To piss me off when I'm mapping or wanting to explore Tyria.I've not actually set foot in Tyria properly for a while, but I did notice that after I finished WiK and HotN, I still had frigging Peacekeepers blocking my paths. Despite telling them to GTFO my way, the refused to listen and the only solution was to curse at them until they were crumpled heaps on the floor which Master of Whispers and Olias then turned into some charming bone minions. I'm assuming the reason they're still on my maps is because I have some Wanted bounties on White Mantle (which I should really start doing for war supplies but have no motivation to spend longer in Tyria than necessary...).
But yes OP, the reason they are there is for the War in Kryta extra content which is stressful at times (as per this damn quest) but ultimately very rewarding for what you can gain from it in terms of items and also story. Only real penalty is all the non-skippable dialogue which insists on taking over your screen >.< DO NOT WANT in Winds of Change plzkthnx.
