Hi there,
Thank you in advance for responding to my post. I am an avid pvp gamer and have been playing for quite a while, I play on a laptop since I am off at college and have a middle of the road hp laptop, specs:
Processor:Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9550 @2.66GHz 2.67GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB
32 bit operating system
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce G 105M
Anyways I run Guild wars on the lowest settings and get usually around 150fps, recently I have been getting around 30 fps and even single digit fps's on occasion and I have no idea why. Guild wars kept crashing when I was running the background programs I usually do - I have now closed all these background programs and solved the crashing but the game still has really poor fps and it's really making the game unplayable. One thing I have considered is that I have gone away on winter break to England away from where I usually study in Boston, so I was wondering if the change in voltage from the plugs maybe had an effect?
Basically as you might have guessed, I don't know much about computers unless its related to video games or facebook so I would appreciate it if someone could help me on this issue.
Many thanks

it sounds more as if you have some kind of firewall limiting access or something else taking up network resources. The game may have been crashing due to heat, so download HWMonitor and see what your system temps are while gaming.

Sounds like you might be overheating, or there's a really intense process running in the background.

Okay, I have taken your advice and downloaded HWMonitor.
What temperatures are normal for a laptop cpu? A google search gave me a rough estimate of 50-60 degrees Celsius whilst running games...
I'm getting between 54 and 72 when I first start up guild wars. The weird thing is that it's only really happening with guild wars, I have been playing half life 2 and company of heroes without problems like this...
Edit: After about 5 minutes, temperature has gone up to 85
At exactly 100 degrees after 15.

Way too hot!
You need to clean any vents you can on that laptop and maybe invest in a cooling mat..Thats about all you can do with a laptop im afraid.
GW can be a little more heat sensitive than other games,in my experience.

Heat is your culprit then - those temps are not good at all. GW is picky about heat, it's not at all uncommon for it to crash due to heat long before other games will.
Like Pink said, clean out the dust as best you can and try using a laptop cooling tray or at the very least prop a book under the back edge to allow a little air under it. Oh, just in case you didn't already know this, putting your laptop on the carpet, the bed, or the couch is about as stupid as rolling it down the stairs; always have a hard surface under it.

I have it on a wooden desk atm and it seems to be okay when I don't play games. I am just using it for checking my email and facebook atm...
Going to try cleaning it tomorrow morning though, too tired too at the moment.
Thanks for your help everyone
