Greetings,
I have been playing guild wars for a long time, but not so much in the last year due to not having a computer. I bought an asus k52JU laptop last week and the first thing I did was install GW (No I installed and antivirus first). I didn't get a chance to play yet, because of school; that is, until today.
When I launch GW it tries to install the game. (Yes, I am positive that I installed it correctly) So I tried to uninstall the game to reinstall it, but uninstalling it through the control panel also makes an attempt at installing it.
So:
1) How can I safely and completely remove GW.
2) Does W7-64Bit have compatibility issues. (None that I found while searching around).
3) Has anyone had this problem?(No one that I have come across)
Any help will be appreciating, cheers.

Make sure your firewall isn't isolating the GW files. Usually an alert comes up and you can choose whether not to isolate it again.

Take in mind that I'm not very tech savvy so I'd wait for another person to come along and confirm anything I say.
1. I do know that you can create a shortcut to your "gw.exe" then in the shortcut properties you can add a [space]-uninstall so it should look something like this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -uninstall upon clicking that it should prompt you to uninstall. Never done it though so I'm not 100% on that.
2. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit as well and haven't had any issues with Guild Wars.
3. And of all the problems I've had... I've never had this problem. Although from the sound of things it's not all that big of a problem.

When you say its trying to install when you run gw - is gw on a new pc and what would be a fresh install ?
Gw when installed via cd/dvd/download will only do a partial install and will upon load up attempt to download extra files - the actual gw.dat file is around 3.5 to just over 4gig and in the old days gw was on a cd , the online installation at first wont attempt to download 3.5 gig as its one big chunk. What it does is makes a basic install ( on all versions ) then do background downloads whilst playing - new areas that have never been visited will be downloaded as you visit them. Also when anet does updates we have to downloaded the updated files regardless if Mr X only bought the game 3 days ago.
I get a feeling this is whats happening to you - its only downloading and isnt anything to panic about. There are several posts on guru to do with using the -image command which is best done when you have a few hrs off gw and will load almost everything for you outside of the actual game running but does take a few hrs the first time run.You shud be able to search for -image on here and get a complete step by step guide for it.
Fingers crossed ( specially if im guessing right ) this will sort your problem out

My guess would agree with Spiritz above - GW is probably just downloading updated content. The best method would be to use the "-image" command - search on these forums for details.
I'm using GW with Win7 64-bit, btw - no problems.

To use "-image" do what I said above but instead of -uninstall put -image.
