Poor ping to GW servers compared to other US servers

I don't know why, but I always get pings of 350 - 500ms to GW servers. This is extremely poor when my average latency to most other US servers from other games is only about 220 - 250ms. These servers include Battle.net gaming servers, League of Legends servers, Steam servers, websites such as Google. Yet I've hardly ever get pings lower than 300ms to GW servers, and even if I do, it doesn't last very long.

Occasionally my ping to GW servers will spike up to about 600 - 700ms. Heck, for about 3 weeks during Wintersday, my ping was averaging 1000 - 2000ms. It was pretty much unplayable during that whole period.

Does anyone know why this is so? I'm afraid it'll continue like this even to GW2.

You rant about ping and yet don't give us a description on where you're located.... Ok.

It's probably an ISP problem/poor service in your area. You're probably not even using a DSL connection, or even just using a baaaad wireless router.

From what I hear from American friends, the servers are completely fine for them. Hell, it's been the euro servers that have been acting up in the past 3 months or so.

I play on a dial-up connection (no high-speed access in this area of New Hampshire) and my ping is very rarely over 300ms, so my guess is that the problem is on your end.

*sigh*, it's the old "I have a bad ping to [insert game] but everything else works". The internet is not a straight line, it's more like a ..... web. There are different paths to get to different places. Odds are, the path you take to get to GW goes through a slow-ish router somewhere along the line. That may change if/when the router is repaired/replaced.

You could do a ping trace to find out where the ping is getting high.
