Hello, My daughter bought a new pc in april 2010 and it has windows 7 64 bit. She can't play guildwars anymore. We had an email exchange with the technical support and they say that it isn't compatible. But My daughter spoke to some guidwar gamers and they heve Windows 7 and they can play the game perfectly. She waited for a new guildwars but it is not yet on the market. Why can others play and not my kid?

Never had a problem. I have win 7 64 on desktop, as well as laptop.

What are the symptoms though. What's the PC hardware, processor and graphics.

I've also never had a problem (I have Windows 7 64bit too). As Iron Monkey said, some information about PC hardware (processor, graphics card) would be useful.

Does it give some kind of error message? If it does, what does it say?

I hope you find a way to get the game to work.

When installing GuildWars on Windows7, make sure to run the installation file as administrator (right click on the installation file).

I run Guild Wars on Windows7 Professional 64bit with no difficulties at all.

I'm running on windows 7 64 bit right now. I also had installed GW in Windows 7 32 bit (ultimate).

You need to be an administrator to install but not to run it.

I'm also running GW on Windows7 64-bit with absolutely no problems. One other thing you can try is to right-click on the GW.exe file and under the compatibility tab choose "Run this program in compatibility mode" for Windows Vista (Service Pack 2). Even though ANet doesn't officially support GW under Windows 7, many, many people are running it successfully...good luck!

I too can play fine on Win 7 64bit. Theres gotta be a problem with it that can be trivially fixed. Let us know what software changes have occured near the time guildwars stopped working, or what the specs are. And i hope to god it doesn't have an intel graphics chipset.

I had a problem when I installed it for the first time, it originally installed to my "Program Files" folder and when I switched it to the "Program Files(x86)" folder, it worked fine.

Something to try.

GW is compatible with W7 64bit, as I have it on 3 separate computers with W7, and it runs fine on all of them.

What the NC-soft support meant to say was that it wasn't designed with W7 in mind, which might be true, but if that answer comes from the mouth of a terribly educated tech rep it will sound wrong.

3 PC's, all W7 64-bit, no problems on any of them

Try using Compatibility mode if running it as admin doesn't work

This worked for me when I changed over to Win7.

You said that she can't play anymore. I assume that she played it on the same computer with a different windows installed. If you installed win7 on another drive and still have GW installed on the old one, and you try to run it from there, it may cause some issues. Try to install GW on the drive you installed win7 on and run it from there.

This is what happened to me and how I got around it. May not be the perfect solution, but it worked for me. I hope it will do the same for you too.

(And no, it wasn't a permission problem at all. It gave me some weird message I've never seen before..)

win7 64-- i did not install under any of the program files, created new folder called Games (which is where I install all game files) and installed GW in there, no probs at all, don't even need admin rights or compatibility stuff

I have no problems as well. Though I cannot say so for other games. You could try downloading 3DA and see if it helps. I cannot be sure it will though.

1) odds are they will say it's not a supported OS because in reality it isn't. Guild Wars was never intended for use with 7. And from what I've seen their support is mostly run by people who don't know the game and just read off what they're told about the game. While we know it can work with 7 the first thing they probably do is compare the information you give them with the minimum specs and since 7 isn't in the specs it's an easy way out for the guy on the other side.

2) Is it an issue installing or an Issue actually playing?

3) Is she using the computers admin account to play/install?

4) What are the System Specs?

5) If its an issue with actually playing...Is she running the game Windowed or Fullscreen?

6) Tacos are yummy.

^ ^ This should work, but as others have suggested check that your graphics card etc are compatiable with Guild Wars.

Thanks
