Hello. No, I'm not asuming Anet is racist, however I don't understand why I can't make my name Chichi Ikenna. They are both african names, and there is no cursing or w/e in it? Is Chichi slang for something I don't know, or? lol

When you have the chatfilter ON Captain Quimang displays as Captain ----ang and he's an NPC
Quim seems to be slang for female genetals.
Sometimes the filter is a bit too proud of it's function, has NOTHING to do with racism.

Why do you think I made this post? Don't you think that's kind of a stupid question? xD I'm not English, or w/e it is slang for and in which language. But it is actually an African name aswell.

I already knew one of the slang meanings for it (that it means 'breasts'), I didn't realize there were multiple slang meanings for it though.

Heck, they filter the word "Sega" (the game company), because it means a certain naughty thing in Italian. Welcome to the world wide web. Company's have to be aware of these kinds of things.

I never knew chichi was slang for something, is that in English?
BTW it also filters out Damned Cleric from the krytan undead hordes, a name made by Anet....talk about double standards...

chichi ちち in japanese is dad /father nothing to do with anatomy. (there is even an island called chichi jima...dads island or from the wikipedia: Chichi-jima (父 島 , Father Island).
so its not completely a derogatory word.

Chichi definition just to clear things up:
Quote:
Slang for female breasts. coincidentally, the same slang term is used in both Mexico and Japan. In Mexico it is derived from the Nahuatl (Aztec) language... Chichihualli (breasts), chichihualyacatl (nipples), chichihualyacahuitzli (tips of the nipples.) In Japanese... chichi has two meanings 1.) breasts 2.) father (slang).

No, it's Cuilan who needs to learn how to use them. If he had taken the extra second to say who he was talking to - like putting @Verene at the start - the confusion wouldn't have happened.

ちち is "dad" or "daddy." ちち (or more commonly with the respect indicator, おちち) also means "(female) nipples" (or, I guess, "esteemed/respected nipples"). That said, ちち is not a rare combination of sounds in Japanese and it shows up in other words and names without being a reference to either "dad" or "nipples."

This particular distinction sticks in my head because an acquaintance of mine once made an amusing error. At the time he was dating a Japanese girl, and he was meeting her parents for the first time. Her father, an avid cigar smoker, asked him if he smoked. His intended reply was, "no, but my dad smokes." Then, he stopped himself and thought it would be polite to add the respect indicator "o" to "dad," since he was talking with his girlfriend's dad, and parents are very important in asian cultures, and blah blah blah. Unfortunately, ちち meaning "dad" cannot accept an "o," but ちち meaning "nipple" can. Thus, instead of "no, but my dad smokes," he instead announced, "no, but I suck nipples." Not a wise thing to say to your girlfriend's father...

isn't chichi Son Goku's wife? Although then again, Toriyama used onomatopoeia when naming his characters.

It's weird how a name like Pooki can go through censors when something innocent like Chichi gets filtered lawl.

yes chichi is a very popular part of japanese speech...and its the dad instead of father kind (more like when we say mommy instead of mother) so usually used only in familiar company----your friend Chthon, should have used otousan (the polite form).

(heck you can see chichi in american as well---any one ever been to Chi Chi's restaurant?? or heard of Chi Chi Rodriguez?)

just about ANY word can be demoralized into a slang word, some just have more......

In a game I used to play, the language filter cut out "sack", "cave" and "balls" from chat -- and all three of those are also descriptions for items in the game.
