Exploring the unexplorable
TheGizzy
I had just been reading up on the Boardwalk (learning about CNY, since this will be my first) and I found the little note explaining how you can use Heart of Shadow to shadow step into the Boardwalk for cartographer purposes. That's excellent, since I'm slowly working on that title. Went and tried it...worked like a charm!
I'm wondering if there are other areas where using Heart of the Shadow would allow me to explore an otherwise unexplorable area...and where those might be? I'm especially interested in ones where there wouldn't be foes there, but I'd like to hear about any/all.
Thanks!

I'd say the only really worthwhile one is the Eredon Terrace one.
I've done many portal jumps (there are many more than listed in that link), but if you go cartographing while you vanquish and use texmod while you're at it, you'll reach 100% easily. The trouble is mostly not worth it.
It is fun though .
If you really want some fun, guildwiki has the great Portal Jumping Project.

You can try doing that trick with heart of shadow (i think the community named it portal jumping) whenever you find a portal on an explorable area, the area you will jump to won't have any foes so it will be a pretty easy to map out. And there is the link End provided for areas you wouldn't visit

Wow, thanks! Great information!
I was just running around the boardwalk area and thinking, "huh, couldn't I pretty much jump through ANY portal with this? That would be awesome in areas where the foes would kick my ass-ets!"
I have a potentially stupid question about this...
I'm doing this with just one hero tagging along. When I "jump," she is being "jumped" with me.
I accidentally went through a portal and ended up back in the "regular" area.
Couldn't you run someone this way, then? Chase from area to area bringing them with you and then walking through the portal to the area you wanted to bring them?
Or is there some obvious block to this that I'm not seeing?

Other portals will not work, only the one you are jumping through (and others in the area you started in of course).

LOL Yeah, I figured out the portal thing about 2 minutes after I posted... and then discovered you can only go so far from your original entry into the "other world" before the world essentially ends. *grinning*
Still very useful... and I appreciate the reference links... I'm liking this, that's for sure!

I remember a bug outside of Nolani Academy mission where you could go "through" the portal to the lowlands without triggering it and get to the gargoyle stairs outside, then I literally fell through the earth and ERR-7'd out of the game.

When you do trial of zinn you can jump through to explore normally inaccessible bits outside, not sure if that is included in the portal jumping project.

Note: I've done Grandmaster Cartographer without using any of those tricks - so, just pointing out that it's not necessary.
