Fix guild and alliance chat when zoning.
Bright Star Shine
No idea if this has been brought up before, if it did, meh..
Anet should have done this 6 years ago..
Anyway, this annoys the f*ck out of me, especially with me (and some others in the guild too) so I'm zoning every ~1,5minutes. And, when someone says something in GC, usually worthless shit, but sometimes important questions too, but I miss over half because I'm zoning.
How comes this doesn't happen with PMs, but it does with GC/AC, that should mean they can prevent it from happening.. If they can't, please explain to me why.

you want 100 players x 10 guilds = 1000 people all put on hold because your zoning

Ok, honestly don't care that much about AC, but if people in GC want to ask something, and you're zoning at that moment, it is lost, but when someone pms you, you get the message nonetheless, so that should mean they can do it, no? Or am I missing something crucial here?

I do agree its annoying and no we are not asking for ppl to be put on hold but cant the same way a pm gets thru to you when zoning be used - maybe add a slight delay in the message in gc/ac or even add a small flag that activates upon zoning , puts message on hold and a few secs later when zoned deflags and shows messages.
Even putting in chat "im zoning" doesnt exactly work as someone may have typed a message and hit enter just as your message shows and you have already zoned.
What amazes me is quite often im on a chr screen selecting my chr , ive choosen my chr and upon i come into gh or what ever i get an immediate message from someone saying hi - how the hell can they see me that fast i have no idea , even at times ive seen slower loading players seemingly be on guild/friends list and they havnt even loaded yet and they say hi around 5+ secs later lol.Does the gw program assume the moment you select chr you are actually in gh etc or does it assume it when you actually arrive ?

I think this is largely due to the difference between how Guild Chat and Private Messaging are carried out in the server. Private Message is a simple Send To Client command on the server, sending the text of the message. It can flag an error if the message fails to be received by the client but the client is both online and not on do not disturb. In this case it can continue to try to resend the message periodically until the client either disconnects or receives the message.
Guild Chat and associated global chats are essentially a modified Send To All Clients command on the server. In my experience this is the server having a list of all eligible clients to receive a message and going through it to send that message to each of them through a Send To Client command. The trouble you are experiencing arises I suspect from the constraints put on the eligible clients. For Local Chat for example, it will go through and find every player connected to that zone and send them the message. Guild Chat and Alliance Chat instead require you to be a member of that Guild/Alliance, but ALSO require you to be currently in a zone to be eligible to receive a message.
The reason it is this way? It processes faster to preselect eligible clients for a message and then trying to send to them rather than only deciding if a client is eligible or not as you send the message.
This is due to again how Private Messaging is processed. Upon starting to change from the character screen to whatever zone your character was last in, you come online. At this point people can PM you. But you don't receive the message because you are not in a zone, so it flags an error. So it continues to retry until you finally arrive and load into the zone, where the message successfully transmits and you receive it what seems to you instantly.

It's not just the Alliance chat tough, Guild chat works the same.

Just Sai
just say 'mapping' before you zone
its easy and already works
your guildies will click on and do it too.

Is it really that hard to type: "If you said something, I may have missed it, I was zoning."

Really, what kind of disadvantage is there anyway to have something like this fixed?
thedeadlyassassin
Why don't you just click on the chat box?
I don't mind this being fixed, but it doesn't seem like such a huge problem.

Never said it's a huge problem, it's just incredibly annoying when ppl want to ask you something in GC and since currently, I'm zoning every ~90 seconds, I miss out on a lot of stuff.

How many times do you zone when playing? Are you going to type that every single time you zone?

Not to mention this late into the game and Anet still hasn't implemented things they told us they would from something like 6months ago?

hey kosar!
Id like this. Sometimes I'll be in a conversation in AC and I'll hold off on entering a zone so that I don't miss a response from someone else. It's a minor annoyance, and I would really love a minor fix.
