I only own prophecies and I haven't played in a few years, I never finished the game but I was close (got to the ice mountains area droknars forge? I was attempting to get the special skills with the signet but it was too difficult and hard to find a party)
With GW2 coming I figure I should start up some GW1 while I wait, so I read that henchmen can now basically allow you to solo the entire game??
Does this apply to prophecies too or only expansions with heroes. I have no knowledge about anything other than prophecies.
Can I still take advantage of the hall of monuments? I put in my account and I found that I have one achievement or whatever, am I glitched or something because I read that you have to own Eye of the North to gain access to it.
One last question, is it possible to make a strong MM necro with only prophecies, it was a few years ago but I think I was told that MM necro is incredibly terrible compared to someone who owns all the expansions and I shouldn't even bother(or perhaps this applies to all classes).
Some newbie questions about prophecies

You'll be definitely missing out on some really good skills like Order of Undeath and Ebon Battle Standard of Honor. People did run MM's in 2005 so it's not like it's not possible with only Prophecies skills. You'll just be less effective (not that it really matters though). If you plan to get back into GW and prepare for GW2; you'll really want to get the other campaigns. They're not expensive, and they'll add a lot.

By now you probably can solo the entire game with henchmen, but people are generally talking about Heroes + Henchmen (commonly referred to as H/H). You get 3 heroes and 4 henchmen. Heroes let you customize their skills and equipment, and if you need to you can manually control their skill use, so very good hero builds have great synergy and allow you to solo even hard mode (after you beat a campaign, you can use hard mode which increases difficulty but also rewards) with enough patience. You should be able to finish Prophecies with only henchmen, but having heroes would make it much, much, much easier.
You do need Eye of The North for the Hall of Monuments. The one achievement you got is most likely the having linked accounts, ANet gave everyone that because they assume that everyone will link their accounts. If you're going for Minion Master, most of the basic skills are Prophecies/Core, so you can actually get a pretty good build by the looks of it (note: I don't play a primary necro). I would recommend you visit gwpvx.com and look up some Necro builds there. More campaigns add a lot of options to vary your build for the situation, however. chuckles79
It's probably enough to discourage you, coming back after a long hiatus. The necromancer is still a viable profession even with just prophecies. You won't be "in demand" as much as others who will have a greater variety of skills, but there is no reason you cannot beat the game by yourself, or guildies who are willing to help.
If you do not want to commit to getting the entire collection (which I, and just about everyone else will probably recommend) you should at least get the Eye of the North expansion. First off it synergizes perfectly with prophecies more than the other campaigns. It will get you access to Heroes, fully customizable henchies that you can rune up and select the skills of. Next, it will get you access to elite skills from other campaigns that are not available in Prophecies, as well as some other new regular skills. Furthermore it will get you the Hall of Monuments, which is the device where your achievements will link to GW2. It also unlocks 5 new achievements to actually fill up your Hall, and a large number of PvE only skills that are quite powerful, and will make up for the lack of factions and nightfall skills in a big way. busybee
I can only answer about doing Prophecies with henchmen only. I did it and I am not by any means an expert player. I'm an old lady with too much time on my hands I guess. But if I can do it I'm sure anyone can.

I see thanks for the advice, back when I played I never used henchmen (other than healer) if we couldn't help it. I really should buy the expansions but I think it is like $30 for each set, at least thats the listed price on steam, so $90 is a bit much especially when I am expecting GW2 to come soon. At the very least I'll take up chuckles advice since he has some solid advice so I'll pick up EotN eventually.
My hall of monuments is as annatar says, thanks, I am a bit disappointed that I didn't earn something but oh well. I was mainly thinking about MM so I could just spam summons so I could breeze through the entire game. Kunder
The complete collection that includes all 4 games is like $40 last I checked.

You can only capture elite skills whose campaign you own. Factions and Nightfall elites would show up as locked in the skill capping screen. And unlocking with Balthazar faction is impossible as well

yup i'll concur with this one...i saw it at walmart for about 39.99 for ALL campaigns. I would highly recommend getting all the campaigns as it makes the game a lot more enjoyable and more diversity to it.
