Off the top of my head I can remember three examples of PUG people who were absolutely atrocious.

1. ZQ/ZB in EOTN (I don't remember where). The worst warrior I had seen in a long time. His build consisted of the following: Comfort animal, with no points in beast mastery. 1/3 of his points in wilderness survival, with no WS skills. Dwarven Battle stance, and using a sword. Random tanky skills. It took us 15 minutes to help him redo his build (he didn't understand why either). In the end, we failed partways through (thanks in no small part to him), people ragequit, and the remainder of the party returned to outpost and kicked him.

2. Bloodstone caves HM. Now I understand bringing along a shieldset, but I've never seen a mesmer with a shield (Tormented, of course) and sword be successful. That includes this run. He stayed far away from combat and rarely did anything. If I remember right, we ended up finishing, no thanks to him.

3. Vizunah Square normal mode. I can H/H VS in normal mode, but for this time I had made the mistake of volunteering to help two other players get throught the mission (I was feeling generous). The players in question were two mesmers that looked identical and had nearly identical names, both of them lvl 4. I'm not sure how they even made it to VS at level 4, but they insisted that they were in no way underleveled, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. We recruited a few other level 17-20 players, put some monk heroes in, and tried the mission. Whenever an enemy appeared, both mesmers would run in the opposite direction and not return until all the enemies were dead. The other team consisted of only Cantha's Finest Henchmen, and our combined might wasn't enough to protect Togo and Mehnlo. Back at the outpost, the twin mesmers then claimed to be 10 years old and the BEST OF FRIENDS, so they both had to do it together, of course. At this point I ragequit.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the guy in #1 had Sever Artery as his only sword skill.

While it may be slightly off topic, I have to emphasize this about a million times over. So many people in the game these days try to justify their build because it's "new" or "creative". That doesn't make it suck any less. They also reject many builds on the basis of "everyone uses them", which, to me, is about the weakest reasoning you can possibly come up with. Innovation is great and necessary, but making a crappy build and sticking with it no matter how many improvements people suggest is NOT innovation. It's one thing to use non-meta builds because they're effective, but being different for the sake of being different is just...special.

Hey, it's fairly simple: I ping a meta build and then switch to my own build. It always works out anyway since it's just PVE.

speaking of "creative" builds there was this one time i got a smite/eoe monk on my FA team. the minute i pinged his eoe he started ranting about how everyone made fun of him without giving him a chance to show what he could do. halfway through he just stood in a corner going on and on about how nobody liked him so we reported him for leeching...

I tolerate alot of pugs. Even tho, I know I said I wasn't the monk who screams and wammo's, I still aint, but I'm the monk who screams and bad monks or other bad casters.

But I tend to not scream, but be just straight forward: Your ranger build is f****** retarded as you're playing on an elementalist now. *kick*

It tends to go pretty well during the mission tho. I have most problems when making the group. People get super offended if you ask them to change a skill. Because in GW there is nothing called teamwork between players, lol. And even if you are the leader, that doesn't mean anything, except for that you accept or kick players.

I've done almost every ZB and ZM in HM with just heroes and henchies, so I find it funny when people overly worry about other players builds, or spend hours trying to get Monks into their PUG (while ignoring any other form of healer such as a Resto Rit, or a Necro, or Hero).
Even if 1 or 2 players (but not a healer) do almost nothing (or DC), things can usually be done successfully.
The main source of problems seems to come from those party members who are in a great hurry to get things done as fast as (they think) possible. Chill.

Another source of problems, from a healers perspective, are the dumb "tanks" who go running 2 agro bubbles away to fight some foe while leaving the rest of the group to battle the rest - and then they whine about not being healed.

On most days when I form a group I don't even check people's builds. ie today was Venta Cemetary, and we went with an SoS, myself as imbagon, necro of some sort, melee sin, and a panic mes. along with 2 hero healers and Koss.
Hot knife thru butter, we even aggroed 3 groups at once at one point and no one even got below 50% health.

The only time you need to ping builds is on missions where there are conditions to be met.

Doing mission with Undeads? A smiter would be nice. Moddok Crevice, bring snares.
Mission with Destroyers? No burning, and Alkar's would help.

If every player would just learn to give the wiki a 30 sec glance before playing it would help immensely

Never had trouble with this.. Oh right, I don't PUG DoA, ever.

I hear guildies cry out in GC a lot saying that PUGs suck, and they do, that's been well established in just about any MMORPG in the history of ever. I'll say what I always tell them: don't PUG. People are retards, face it, don't need a thread to be reminded of it.

I never PuG but it does crack me up when a lot of people are living like 4 years in the past stressing out about every detail in a NM mission as if we are actually going to wipe if we accidentally aggro a second group. I was doing Kodonur Crossroads (sp?) with some Guildies (normal mode) and they were going absolutely apesh!t when I opened the gate at the end. Guys, just go in there and blow some Kournans up and we go home. It's not that hard anymore. Same thing with Destruction's Depths (again, NORMAL MODE). That hard part where you defend the Norn by the bridge. Yeah, it used to be really hard but with power creep, no problem; just blow them up as fast as you can. Some guy in my party was absolutely flipping out that we needed to let all the Destroyers ball up and then spend all day trying to lure them away one by one.

I always say, Normal Mode Pve (what most people play) = higher damage, faster kills. Super conservative/defensive play is just counter productive. Obviously hard mode is entirely different.

Probably the worst PuG i've ever done was in the ZM for Jennur's Horde. The mission is quite annoying alone, and with all the patrols to intercept while fighting the way to the harbringer is needed a minimum of coordination. I H/H'ed it a couple of times without problems. With the PuG....apart the endless time spent to check and correct builds, looking for monks because nobody accepted a resto rit or a necro, once started the miss we lasted something like...5 mins. Everyone running around ignoring the leader that before starting asked to everyone to listen him for coordinate the movements....and everyone said "Yes is a good idea, we'll follow you".

ZM of the day - ToPK

ToPK should be easy. God damned B/P teams beat this back before skill creep (granted in NM, but enemies are only 2 levels higher in HM). We have builds 5x stronger than anything that existed back then, surely ToPK should be a piece of cake?

Boy was I wrong... I join a group at 5/8. Team composition: 3 monks (all healer, of meh-but-usable builds), 1 warrior (decent HB build), and 1 Panic mesmer (good build, though I wasn't too hot on Panic when most groups are of 3 enemies of varying profession but w/e). I'm a R/W ranger, and I manage to convince the team to stop sitting around forever spamming for players and just let me take two heroes to round up the group, which I do and take a rt/mo for splinter weapon/smite and a MM because I think you are supposed to take a MM in ToPK or something.

We get in and... damn. OK, it was stupid on my part for not remembering that warriors get shafted by Fingers of Chaos, meaning the frontline HB is almost useless and I'm needing to use antidote signet every 5s until the MM has an army to block for me. But I swear the monks never cast a single condition removal the entire time, though they were perfectly happy to give me +400 healing whenever I was 100 down. So our kill rate is horrendously slow, but we get through to 3 levels.

Then the monks decide to stop paying attention and camp in a Meteor Showers while trying to outheal the damage. 2 of them do this at the same time and we wipe. Immediately after returning to the outpost, the leader tells me "Your heroes f**king suck" and kicks me . Not that I wasn't going to leave after that, but how does he expect my clearly offensive-minded heroes to save him from MS?

TL;DR I'm done with my attempts at helping shitty players out for the week.
