Hello Again Everyone!

The Gaming World Entertainment Network’s Charity Organization, Gamers Giving Back presents to you, our next fundraiser “Toga Party For MS” This is in conjunction with the North American Wide Supercities MS Walks, that I ( Malibu Barbie) will be participating in on May 1st. (Along with others that may sign up!)This event will be held in Chahbek Village International Districts on April 16th , 2011 from 12pm-6pm CST! As in the past, we have dubbed Chahbek Village, “Alex Trebek” Village and encourage everyone to come dressed in a Toga! With that, you will be quizzed according to Jeopardy rules! Remember, this is just the beginnings of this event, but we couldn’t wait to share the beginning details…so check back often for updates!

The Districts:

International Districts 1-10 will be sponsored by GW-EN.com , along with GW GURU officially sponsoring District 9. Elizabeth and Izari from Guildmag.com will be in District 11 and the YaWn Alliance in District 12.

Jeopardy Style Quizzes – These quizzes will be asked every 15-20 minutes between the on-air quizzes. So you have a chance to win at both! Remember that all of these quizzes that will happen in-district will need to be answered in the form of a question.

“ We thought the scarab plague had been forgotten and vanished
from the lands of Elona ages ago, we never thought that it
would return. There has been much speculation on what the
actual cause was and the most recent research into that has
been from Scholar Chago’s works. We had not wanted to panic the
local population as was done once before but a new disease has
sprung up around Chahbek Village. Several fisherman and a
few villagers fell to a strange disease several months ago and
it seems to be spreading throughout the village now affecting
some while leaving others untouched. Some villagers have had
problems walking, with coordination, tremors, painful muscle spasms,
loss of memory, and some now require others to care for them as
they have become unable to care for themselves. Scholar Chago thinks
he may have developed a cure for this strange affliction but
he will need the help of brave adventurers to gather
the rare ingredients for the cure. Will you help ?.... “

In conjunction with the Gamers Giving Back fund raiser for Multiple Sclerosis, Crossing Tyria is proud to help sponsor a scavenger hunt as part of the activities connected with this awesome event. Beginning on March 26th we will unfold a story for this event in which we will present you with some original fan fiction and your very own quest called " Hunt for the Cure ". Our prize support for this has been truly outstanding and the goodies you could win and be rewarded with are all listed below. It was our goal to create a unique story for the event this year and give gamers the chance to participate in a unique scavenger hunt.

Sounds Great but what's the deal, How do I do this quest ?

Starting on March 26th and each Saturday after that leading up to the event we will list items in our fan fiction which must be gathered to complete the quest. Every week will present new items that players must collect in-order to complete the quest. On April 16th the day of the event the last items will be announced on-air and also posted on the Crossing Tyria forums.

Do I have to collect Everything that's listed ?

Yes, You have from March 26th until April 16th to collect the items needed for the quest and the last items needed for the quest can be collected the day of the event. Be sure to save everything and turn them in to the following people on the 16th of April before 4.00 PM CST as at that time we will be closing the event and get things ready for drawing our winners.

The following people will be online from the Highland Wolves ( PACK ) and our alliance that day to collect your scavenger hunt items. We will be scattered throughout the districts bouncing back and forth. Just send us a whisper and we'll meet you to collect the items.

For this unique prize the winner will be taken to the Great Temple of Balthazar by a member of PACK where they will be able to choose what they want to spend 25 gold Zaishen coins on and be taken to the Zaishen chest where the 25 keys will be used to open the chest by a member of PACK and all drops will be given to the winner. question about the Zaishen spree... is it allowable to use the coins for pet unlock in the menagerie rather than at the crafter?

The first part of the story went live at Crossing Tyria. Head over and give it a read so you can start collecting today.

Short answer, no.

Long answer. The Zaishen coins belong to one of the organizers and can not be traded. As a result they are actually using them to purchase your choice of items and then trading you those items. Since the pet unlocks are account based they won't be able to unlock a pet for you with their coins.

Just the normal question that I make for every community event... at what time is it in spain? :P

Join us as we tell a story of a disease which has sprung up around Chahbek Village and ask all true heroes to help us find the cure to save the village and stop its spread before it spreads beyond the borders of Elona.

March 26th

As you approach the hut where Scholar Chago and a monk form the sunspear order is tending to a sick villager he greets you with a wave motioning you to come closer. “I had heard you were the ones who were going to help me find a cure for this disease and I am grateful, shall we get down to business then”? I’m going to need the following things to start work on a cure if you’re willing to go gather these items for me. I’ll need a sentient spore, a sentient root, and a mandragor root. The intelligent plant life around here just might hold the cure if we can examine it and as disgusting as this may sound I’ll also need a Malodorous mass as well. Its juices and such might also help or hold the key. Please hurry back so I can get started with a cure”.

(March 30th)

The adventurers that collected the ingredients for me returned rather fast with everything that I have asked for but I have been unable to pin point the exact cause of this affliction that plagues the village. There are now several more villagers who have come down with this strange disease and rumors have already begun to spring up that the scarab plague has returned. I have already concluded that it is not the scarab plague and I have made some head way with various elixirs from the intelligent plant life here but I don’t foresee a cure from my current research. I have been able to help ease the suffering of some but with more villagers coming down with this affliction and one whom seems to be hanging on by a thread panic is hitting the village and rumors are now floating around Kamadan itself of this strange plague. The sickness does not seem to be spread through contact but that will not help when panic starts to ensue if any of the villagers start to die from this disease. I have sent word to an asura colleague of mine who has agreed to come help me with research on the cure. Although he can be a bit abrasive when it comes to dealing with humans his work and knowledge of plant life is far superior to mine and I truly think a cure can be found in this direction. He has already sent me word of a few things we should try regarding plant life he knows and I think together we will be able to make some head way on a cure for this disease. I’ll have to send word back to the group of adventurers who helped me before and send them after more specimens once my colleague arrives. I’m sure that after a few heated discussions and some debate we can both come to an agreement on what direction we should take for researching a cure. I just hope something can be done before panic sets in and people make the situation worse.

The story continues...

It has been days since you delivered the ingredients to Scholar Chago and he has summoned you to the Astralarium to meet with him once again. The news is pretty bad though and it seems that other villagers have fallen ill as well and some who had only minor symptoms have gotten extremely ill and in one case one villager has died. “It would seem I need to expand my search for possible items to help produce this cure.” He tells you as you enter his work shop which is simply loaded with beakers, bottles and two asura who are busy arguing with one another about the boiling point for some strange yellow concoction. If you could perhaps venture forth from Elona here and procure a tangle seed and a spiny seed for me, I think combined they might make a paste I could use to help ease the pain of some of the villagers. I also need a Dark Flame Fang as well. Its poison seems similar to some of the toxins I have found in some of the villagers blood. I still have much work to do yet, please hurry back with these items. I would hate to see the loss of anymore life”.

Just as an FYI, the link http://www.gw-en.com/toga/ doesn't work with TOGA in caps. At least not for me, not sure if other people are experiencing the same issues?

Journal of Scholar Chago

My two Asura colleagues continue to argue over the tiniest aspects of our research but their ideas and suggestions have proven to be a god send at times and other times I find myself wanting to pummel or choke the answer out of them. Regardless of how annoying Master Blekin and his assistant may be they have helped a lot in narrowing down what we are actually dealing with though and it seems we are not dealing with a plague at all but rather a disease which is affecting the muscles and mind of those afflicted. How this is spreading though still has us all puzzled. It is definitely not a contagious disease but after more villagers have fallen ill and a few more have died from its complications it wasn’t long before the words plague and curse began to spread around the out laying villages and to the very gates of Kamadan itself. In their brilliance to save themselves from an affliction which doesn’t seem to be contagious others have taken it upon themselves to rid themselves of the sick and afflicted instead of providing comfort and help. There have even been a few instances of violence toward villages where the sick have been attacked and in one such incident an attempt was made to burn down a house where several sick individuals had been treated by Master Blekin. Our paste seems to help ease the pain of many afflicted by the disease but there are still other symptoms and complications we have been unable to help with at all. Perhaps it is those who seem to simply waste away and are unable to even feed themselves that have caused such panic. It is times like this where one truly sees both the greatest good and complete ignorance of people. My colleague who is the most annoying and aggravating person at times seems to be blessed with more compassion then many of the neighbors and friends some of these villagers have. When he found out about the attempt at burning down the one villager’s house I swear I caught him crying but he dismissed the notion and said it was simply fumes from the lab irritating his eyes. I’m afraid that by the time our heroes return with our next ingredients the sunspears will need to step in to restore order.

Does anyone have any advice for farming the spiny seeds? It is the only item I have been yet unable to acquire :-/

You can try to farm them north of Heroes Audience, however they're quite tricky to get, as the Cactus-thingies that drop them are hostile to every creature and they are really few. There's where I farm them, but I don't have my spiny seed yet

Arg, after hours of farming I finally got the spiny seed (and, of course, they were consecutive drops). So the inventory is...sentient spore, sentient root, mandragor root, malodorous mass, dark flame fang, spiny seed, and tangled seed.

Am I missing anything?

After you asked I went to retest the drops and got one on my first trip. After that it did take a bit to get a second, so I hope it isn't to hard for people. That list was accurate as of your posting. However, here is the April 9th update for the story with a few more items for you to hunt down. The final quest clues will be announced at 1:30pm on the 16th on-air and on the forums shortly afterward.

After seeing how wide spread the panic has gotten over the recent deaths and the fact more villagers have become stricken with the affliction our heroes left almost immediately to begin their search for more items to help us come up with a cure. It’s been several weeks since I and Master Blekin have been trying to find a cure. Our search to find a cure or anti-toxin in various plants has really only produced a paste which seems to help ease the muscle pains and aches of some and yet there are still some we can’t help at all. Those who seem to have lost all muscle function and ability to control their own limbs just continue to simple waste away while others seem to be only mildly effected by the disease. It seems we’ve been able to help a small few and really only provide comfort to many who will over time continue to grow worse. This morning we’ve decided to continue our research into a cure using plants but my two asura colleagues have been busy this morning discussing the use of golems to help those who can’t move around by themselves. They’ve also struck upon some more radical approaches to our research with plants and have decided we should include some fungus and even a few radical ideas of helping those who have become immobile and unable to help themselves. After discussing all of this with them at great length this morning I think we might be able to come up with a more potent version of our paste to help those with early stages of the disease and if all our experiments go correctly we might be able to provide a mobile transport of sorts for those suffering from later stages of this disease. It isn’t a complete cure but I honestly think we might be able to save lives and give back those who can no longer help themselves the ability to get around and care for themselves. I shall have to call for our heroes to once again go after some items to help us in this latest stage of our experiments to find the cure.

Yeah, I know i may sound a bit dumb again but... what times are these in GMT time? I'll be thankful also if you tell me at what time the event starts in GMT, thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience

You should try checking Time Zone Converter, if you google it, it's the first on the list I believe, needless to say, it will convert time zones for you (using From and To). There's also many other websites that will do the same thing, but this one is really easy to use.

Hope it can be helpful for future events as well.

I really hope that the last parts will be "easy"-ish to get ! I would hate failing to get all the items of the scavenger hunt just because you get unlucky with some drops at the very last moment

I thought the Spiny Seed was difficult to get... But the Guardian Moss was even worse !!!

I tried everything - EVERYTHING ! Solo, small groups, large groups, guild mates, quick runs, long runs, parallel runs, multiple zones, coop missions, etc. And *finally*, after hooouuuurs of killing hundreds of Island Guardians, I got a Guardian Moss Days after the recent items were published

I don't know how that went for others, maybe I've just been extremely unlucky, but the wiki pages on the Guardian Island/Moss seem to confirm that the drop rate is ridiculous :/

If the last bits to be revealed are that hard to get, I can easily see myself farming hopelessly a zone for a few hours on Saturday, and not dropping anything by the time it's late to turn the items in

Yeah, same here, but I didn't need to kill a lot of island guardians, just about 30 or so, i still think spiny seed is more difficult, as you have to prevent the death of the cactus from other foes

We looked at how many people tuned in during Pink Day In La and we just wanted to make it fair to everyone! *Correction* We are just adding an alternate Shoutcast server to our hosting! There will be no delays..but if you get an error saying too many listeners on the main server..we will have an alternate player for you to try.

3. To the people that are having problems with the scavenger hunt....we didn't make it too easy...because you had plenty of time to do it. We wanted people to understand how hard it is to deal with having a disease and how long it can be to find a cure. Good luck tomorrow..I am sure your hunt will go fine

When listening in and messing around with the different links, I found Winamp to have the best results when using VLC (just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else who uses it) but it could be me. Always best for each person to test it for him/herself I guess though.

It’s been weeks and weeks since you’ve journeyed to Lion’s Arch and to various parts of Cantha and not to mention parts of Elona itself but Scholar Chago’s research has not produced a cure yet for those who have been afflicted with this strange disease. The gates to Churrhir Fields remain closed and the Island of Shehkah has been blockaded by war ships. Despite the disease having only spread throughout the island and local villages the panic over the fact many have assumed the scarab plague has returned hasn’t helped. Scholar Chago has summoned you once again though and his voice seemed rather chipper. Perhaps his research has finally paid off. As you enter his work shop again he and his two asura counterparts turn toward you. “I think we may have found something which may help, if you’re up to another journey”. The afflicted in Cantha might hold the cure for what we need, if you can bring me back a piece of Augmented Flesh and journey to the far north for some more plants, specifically a sentient vine, mountain root, and a fungal root I think we can come up with something which will help those suffering from this disease. I don’t think it’s a complete cure but the plants should provide an elixir that will relieve the symptoms and my two counter parts here have an idea using parts of the augmented flesh as well to allow those crippled to walk once again. Only time will tell if this will work hurry back!”

Return to any of the hosted districts and deliver the items to a member of PACK and receive your reward. They will collect today’s items and the ones which have been asked for previously. The first 40 people turning in these items will receive a very nice quest reward.

Quest Reward – 5 K in gold, 1 hero armor, 1 green weapon, experience scroll and skill tome

Everyone who completes the quest regardless of them being 1st or 53rd will be placed in a drawing for some awesome HERO PACKS compliments of Crossing Tyria, The Keepers of the Realms Alliance and GW-EN radio. Winners will be drawn the day of the event and can be viewed live on air shortly after 5 PM EST.


You'll have from 2.30 EST until 5 PM EST to turn in all of your items, good luck and we hope you've had fun !
