What's the deal with HoM?
Stormy Fae
the wiki says the stuff is mainly cosmetic. Does anyone know if they are they going to give rewards that actually do anything? I would like to have the orange tabby cat, and the steampunk-looking wheelock rifle looks pretty cool. But I would probably work harder for points if some of that stuff provided buffs or skills or something. And I wonder when is GW2 coming out anyway?

They specifically said all rewards will be cosmetic. They want new and old players alike to start out with the same things.
When it's ready.

Remember those transmutation stones? Well, you'll be able to apply the skin of the items to any item you have. So, while you won't get a functional improvement from it, you'll get a few nice skins (and they seem to intend to make the transmutation process for HoM items easier, money free).

guildwars2 will come out when its ready.... annoying right.... but they have released that closed alpha/beta testing will begin in 2011. So odds are guildwars2 wont be released until 2012.... But really whats the point; every one knows the worlds going to end first...

Some of the stuff DOES provide buffs or skills. The same buffs and skills you can get from equivalent items found in GW2 outside the HoM. The armor will provide the same buffs as non-HoM armor. The weapons will provide the same skills as non-HoM weapons.
If you want buffs and skills that give you an advantage over those who never played GW1, however, you are out of luck.

Compare to GW1: imagine that one of the items is a sword with vampiric and fortitude. Other players can get a sword with equivalent stats, but you can start with it. This gives you a 'buff', but nothing that will give you an edge over other players in the end. You don't get an sword with +90 hp for instance.

Although cosmetic it is possible these items will give some small advantage.
Based on my experiences with similar promotions in other games you may get a weapon or armour a little earlier in the game than a player starting from scratch.
Think about the bonus item pack they gave full stat weapons to characters in presearing well before you had the ability to use them fully, but they did give a slight advantage in damage.
Any such advantage is likely to be equalled by any other player with not too many hours play.
On balance I think I prefer it this way and would hate someone to get a semi permanent advantage from outside of GW2

As for cluttering up your stash: you'll get a recreateable item or command that takes you to the HoM, where you can pick up the items that you want. No clutter.
Zebideedee
I think they are intended as just a bonus for GW1 players, for them to give buffs/skills etc. that would be an unfair advantage over totally new GW2 players.

Didn't that answer your question, then?

And I didnt say anything about cluttering up my stash. Please read closer before you spout.

Like the bonus pack when you bought the trilogy was an unfair advantage to GW1 players? I really liked getting those weapons when I just starting out. I was just thinking maybe they would do something like that for those of us played GW1. Believe me I need all the help I can get but I'm not really into vanity items. Just saying if the stuff does anything then I might play more GW1 to get it, but if not then meh.
