I see your point. My GWAMM in progress doesn't pre-date titles, but it was my first character and thus did not get Survivor. I decided to make it my GWAMM because I have a personal attachment to the character. I don't know if I'll ever bother to get LS on her.
I kind of grumble over some of the changes they're making, which do seem to be dumbing down the game a bit, but that's kind of a natural progression for a game that's nearing its decline as its "new and improved" offspring looms on the horizon. I can also see the value of changing the Survivor track to what has been speculated. The way the title works now, very few people actually
play the game with a Survivor, for fear of getting it killed. They get runs and use gimmicks, avoiding any perceived danger -- missions, areas, PUGs, and even cutscenes. I think that totally goes against the spirit of the game, and the spirit of the title. It's "Legendary Survivor" -- not "Legendary Sissy."
That said, creating a separate title wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd be on board with that, too. Because it is a unique achievement to gain all that experience without a single death on the counter. Although -- ahem -- it's not all that impressive if done with Hammers.... And it's not like they never die, ever. Once the title is achieved, the deaths usually start racking up. So what's the difference if those deaths bookend the title rather than follow it?
This wouldn't necessarily make filling the HoM easier (which I understand is a goal of Stumme's), since that's account-wide, but it will make GWAMM potentially easier...or, more accurately, give people more choices. It will allow them to pick the titles that suit their playstyle and their characters. As long as boundaries are maintained to keep the game challenging, I think more choices are a good thing.
