Help! My GW won't install or work or anything.
Slasher of Darkness
Hello, so, I'll get to the point, since today, my GW didn't start up, I decided to uninstall and reinstall, while backing up the gw.dat file. So, I re-downloaded from guild wars website again and tried it, and I can't get past this:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I am thinking that it has to do with the fact that I was cleaning my PC this morning, I used Spybot S&D and also some tool I discovered called TweakNow Powerpack 2011 to clean my registry and some other crap off my PC. Just now I also used CCleaner, which didn't help fix my problem.
Every time I click OK, it goes back to the same window again, and again, etc.
I also tried to change the directory, no help. If it helps then my gw.tmp file is 0KB or 7900 KB in the folder, it changes. I also deleted my old .dat and tried to go with -image and a new dat, didn't work.
So, anyone got any clue what's wrong, or how to fix it?

I'm not good at solving those problems, but W7 sometimes require right mouse click and run as administrator.
But I don't know if you have W7 or Vista.

7, tried it, didn't help. It also added -mce behind my shortcut's target line, so it automatically opens media center when I close it, so damn weird.

Just wondering if you have 64Bit windows 7?
If so should be pointing to Program Files (x86). Should do it automatically, but just a thought if you directed it there.

I'll try to disable, never had a problem with them and GW though. And haha yes i clicked ok
EDIT: Yeap, didn't work, turned both off at the same time, still the same problem, I'm starting to think my registry or something is screwed up, but I don't know much bout that stuff. Just in case you wanna see, this is what my GW folder looks like atm:

It might have to do with permissions. See that little gold lock on the file? I think that means you don't have permission.

There are some suggestions there to fix that, but I've never tried so I couldn't which is best.

End
Or just install somewhere that isn't in your program files.

Download and run CCleaner's Registry "fixer". It won't break your system, it never broke any of mine or my friends. You won't regret it, it fixes TONS of problems like this, even ones where drivers won't install.

Hmmm, shows how much I read, lol. I always assume when something like this happens a registry mechanic will fix it like wonders.
Maybe he should try "Little Registry Cleaner" or "Glary Utilities" those also worked wonders in the days before I heard about CCleaner.

Did you get a screen with a red box in which says it can not install to the directory ? and asks if you have enough space or administrative rights ?
if so try this
1. Go to your Start Menu and then select the Control Panel.
2. Type 'UAC' in the search box with the magnifying glass.
3. This will bring up a link below labeled "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off." Click this link.
4. On Window 7: Slide the slider bar to the lowest value (towards Never Notify), with description showing Never notify me.
5. Click the "OK" button.
6. You will then be prompted to reboot your computer.

bumpin' this, and also, I am starting to think something is broken somewhere for sure, in the registry or wherever. Here's a weird one: when I start Gw.exe and get the same thing over and over again, my xfire is showing that I am playing Medal of Honor Pacific Assault MP demo. wtf...? CCleaner didn't work either, neither did spybot, neither did anything else I tried. Anyone got ANY idea how would I go about fixing this one?
EDIT! UPDATE! I got it to work, I used my mum's laptop to almost install GW, then checked the registry entries of GW. Tried changing them to exactly the same on my PC, didn't work, so I went and deleted every single registry entry created by ANet there was. Then installed again, it worked.
Awesome, close thread, if necessary.
