Can I save my game in GW pve in the mission or do I have to always start from a town etc. I get a long way ito the mission and I am forced to close my session but I can not save my progress. Is there any way?

The only way to save your progress is by completing the Mission or Quest you're working on.

How do I remove it?

O K I found out myself. Thanks for the quick reply though. I guess I have to allot more time for the long quests or missions.

Keep in mind, the reason it is like this is because if you team up with other people, there is no way you can force them to join back up with you after you quit.

Well, look on the bright side -- the really long ones are just in Prophecies. The other campaigns have much shorter missions (though some North ones do take some time).
The plus is that with Prophecies missions, you can often do the bonus separately, so if you're running short on time, you can skip the bonus and just go back to do it later.
You can look up the mission you're about to do on the wiki. In the area stats, they indicate the general duration (short, medium, long) of the mission so you know how much time you'll have to give yourself.
As for quests, just keep an eye on your quest log. Most of them have multiple steps that don't all have to be done at once. Unless it's a "scout this area"/"escort that guy" type of quest, once a step is scratched off, you can do the other steps later.

There are pro and cons of a Save Game feature in GW, and it's highly unlikely we would ever see one.
- It would only work while not teamed with other players.
- It would have to save the game server side to avoid any exploits of save files.
- It would take up quite a lot of resources on the servers, especially if the save feature was available for each individual character.
+ It would probably work like the "Recovery" feature now, where game gives you a certain time to reconnect after a DC, but maybe extended to days instead of a few minutes.
Estimated chance of implementation: 0.0052% (rounded to 4 decimals)

If it's not a timed mission, just go afk in a safe spot. Heroes and henchmen don't mind.

Yep, that's what I do. Just minimize the game and leave it there until I can get back again. Sometimes I disconnect and have to start over, but that's life. Make sure you put your status as "away" (N for friends window, up at the top) so your friends don't think you're ignoring them

Yes. I always walk off halfway through the missions that are not time based and leave my heroes and henchmen there. They are really sweet about it.
