GvG Workshop #1 - March 6th
lemming
The first in our series of introductory-level workshops teaching you GvG will be this Sunday (March 6th) at 8PM UTC/3PM EST/12PM PST, hosted by yours truly.
We will be covering the very basics of GvG - mechanics, concepts, and some common terminology. This will be intended for those with minimal experience with the format, although everyone is welcome to attend.
The event will take place on Guru's public Mumble server. For those who are unavailable, a recording will be made available afterwards, although it is recommended that you attend since I'll also be answering questions.
Although not absolutely mandatory, it would be very much appreciated if anyone interested in attending were to reply here stating their intention to do so.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me ingame, IGN Lemstar the Lem. Hope to see you there!
EDIT: Link to recording
The recording is probably nowhere near as informative as it could be, since it's synced with obs mode (which I didn't record), but hopefully some of you will still find it useful. PM me with questions, please!

I'll likely listen. I have no intention of participating in GvG anytime soon but I'm still interested.
Silvertalen
I'll try and hop on just to listen incase there's anything glaringly obvious i've forgotten during the time I've been away from GW.
Kudos to you for providing this and helping to get new ones interested in GvG. Hope all goes well.

I've been using a mesmer in RA/AB but I haven't seen many during the workshop.

Ditto. I forgot to ask, is there a preferable profession for people seeking to get into GvG/higher-end PvP?

Frontliners (warriors, sins, dervishes) are also great to practice.
Flagrunners (good ones) are rare and very difficult to master, so if you can learn to play one, you can be a great asset to any team.
As for Mesmers, they are always a staple in certain builds, but right now the meta is very damage-heavy. Never a bad time to know how to play one, though.

Recording (along with disclaimer) is in original post.
Frontline roles and most midline roles are interchangable - of anything in midline, only domination mesmer and ranger are things that people usually specialize in, on account of their reliance on interrupts.
Playing monk, as difficult as it is to get started, is probably the best profession to go with if you prefer a blank slate - more of what you'll learn through practice carries directly from lower-level PvP to the high-end, and monks are always in demand among guilds of all levels of skill.
The important thing to do, though, is to pick something that you'd be fine with playing in the long run. Get a taste of how all the classes work and decide from there.

Just about every gvg team has an infuse monk, an RC monk, a blood necromancer, and a flagger ritualist. The other roles will vary on what build you're playing but there are a lot of dervishes too. The only class you rarely see right now is paragon.

Bah, I got occupied.
How many people showed up, Lemming?
