Merc Hero Items

Looking for some clarification on exactly what happens to equipped weapons/runes when you delete/recreate a MH.

Someone on the official wiki discussion page posted saying that weapons and runes remain after re-creation, despite the official description saying that everything will be deleted.

Anyone know the details about this? Does it matter which slot you re-create your hero into?


I'm really absent-minded, so before I start putting runes and nice weapon skins on my MH's ... I want to know how much "room for error" I have.

To play it safe yes, but it's going to be really difficult for me to remember which heroes have what items across all my characters. I also tend to hoard and I'm always out of inventory space.

tldw if it's going to be a huge pain in the behind, I'll just end up not runing my MHs and use the preorder/bonus weaps instead of golds and greens.

I had a friend test this a little and it's definitely a phenomenon. I don't know all the exact conditions, but right now I would guess that a given merc slot always holds your items. The only issue is if you change the merc slot's primary profession, then any class-specific runes/insignias will vanish the next time you log onto them with your char. Common runes/insignias and weapons seem unaffected.

To be *really* sure you might want to test some though...

As a test, I gave a merc hero a profession-specific rune, a non-profession-specifc rune and a weapon. I deleted the merc hero and recreated it immediately afterwards with the same character in the same slot. I did not log out or changed characters. After recreation, I examined the hero with the runes and the weapon - they were still there. It was even still in the team of the character.

So I assume that as long as you don't change professions or slots, equipment remains and you are able to update a heroes' appearance without hassle by deleting and recreating it directly afterwards with the updated look.

I assume the equipment is bound to the slot, so if you delete a merc hero with equipment, you should recreate it in the same slot to be able to retrieve the equipment. If you recreate a merc hero with a different profession in the same slot, I assume the profession-specific runes will vanish (destroyed) and the other things will be equipped by the new hero. But this is something I didn't test. If in doubt, salvage expensive runes and unequip the weapons before deleting.
