I'm terrible with hero builds, so I'm asking you-all.

My friend just started out in GW with Nightfall (he rolled a Derv), and I rolled up a Para to play with him (I'll be going Motigon, for kicks).

Since he's new and only has NF, I'll be responsible for all 6 heroes... but as the character hasn't finished anything yet, I can't do the 1Me/3N/2Rt build I would prefer to make (though I can pick up the EotN heroes easily enough once I'm 20 and don't have to worry about outleveling him).

I'm thinking I'll get Jin instead of Sousuke, since I'll be able to pick up Vekk quickly.

So I'll be limited to:
2W, 2R, 3Mo, 2N, 1Me, 1E, 2A, 1Rt, 2D, 1P at best, and that's not taking into account that it'll take a while to get Anton, Hayda, Kahmu, and Xandra.

Does anybody have suggestions? What synergizes well with Dervishes these days? I kind of want to use a Para hero, but I don't know when I'll be able to get Hayda - can I substitute a Warrior efficiently?

Since he's new and only has Nightfall, then he should be responsible for his own Heroes - Specifically, Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni, Talkhora and either the Master of Whispers (preferred) or Margrid. After all, they are mandatory to get through the missions, so he should be using them from the start so that they can get levels - and so that he can get used to using Heroes.

helping a friend learn how to create a setup =/= babysitting him/her

the best thing a friend of mine did when it came to doing NF heroes was force me to learn combos that worked for me. he would join my party, but my heros were the ones we mainly used.

He's pretty explicitly stated he's only interested in playing when I'm there (even then I have a hard enough time prying him away from LoL...), so I figure there's now no real reason for ever leveling his own heroes (if he changes his mind later I'll teach him, I guess). And since he doesn't have any skills unlocked, I figured it'd be better to just use all my heroes.

Just push as many powerhouse builds into the party as you can. SoS/resto Ritualist, Minionbomber, Smite Monk, ER Ele, Mesmer of some kind (dunno what is best for NM) and a Curse Necro is probably what I would run if I were playing a Dervish/Para combo and only had those heroes available.

And no, Warrior heroes are horrible substitutes for Paragon ones. Melee heroes overall is pretty terrible outside of certain niche builds.

make koss use symbolic strike +scythe+battle rage+for great justice for sunspear island= constant aoe 70+

bring sf on eles (take sosuske, vekk, zhed)

minions/ss on master of whispers

panic on gwen makes balls into lols <-- this is a must

most missions require you to get a specific hero, usually meloni master of whispers talkora zhed

pick up olias hes a pro

you get the rit late, but sos is amazing

healing burst + arcane mimicry on talk

unyielding on dunk <-- this is a must

complicate is cool, so is fall back i bring complicate on my sf eles and gwen

since your imbagon, you can probably get away with little defence <-- this is a must

chose a few of the above and pew pew through the easy NM pve missions

as for the derv, as long as he has a max scythe +sand shards + other aoe shit he will be outputting big damage. since he will be tanking most of the damage, i suggest some self prots

oh and btw, dont bother with dervish synergy, the only thing is smite monks
