A guide for the cheap perma-Pre player
Urcscumug
Since there's a lot of renewed interest in Pre I thought we'd put together a bunch of tips for getting around with little or no money.
* Here's some tips for making money.
* Here's some tips for leveling up.
* For warriors, the quests Unsettling Rumors and Bandit Raid give some very nice shields as reward.
* Also for warriors, the crafter Arthur Ayala can make you a very decent sword and axe for 100g each. A salvage kit for obtaining those materials is 40g. Customization for extra +20% damage is 10g each (see the other weaponsmith).
* Learn to hunt in the Northlands. It cannot be explained in brief but here's a small tip: take the quest "Across the Wall" but don't finish it. Every time you go into the North team up with Ben, who is a very decent NPC ally. Also add a pet (if you're R primary or secondary) and the bonus imp (if you have it). Throw in a human buddy and perhaps his pet and you will have quite a nice little team. Practice on the Charr from the "Charr at the Gate" quest (it's easy to bypass Rurik so he doesn't come with you, just keep your distance from him until he stops moving).
* Politely ask around for veterans, guild or alliance buddies who are willing to take you on a full Northlands tour. Offer to give them any drops they ask for. (Don't do this in the first 24h after account creation, you cannot trade during that time.) A nice veteran who also explains what they're doing will teach you more than you could ever read about here on the forum.

I've been struggling with the choice of a secondary profession, and since we're on the topic of pre-searing tips, what are some of the most recommended secondary professions for perma-pre characters? Namely monks.

E/Mo is the easiest and most stable in pre. E/N is a bit faster but requires better obstacle abusement. Mo/E will do well, too.
Verene
Me/E (well, fake /E anyway, I haven't actually accepted a secondary profession) is what I use in Pre-Searing. Number one, I love Mesmers, number two, it's just a really useful combination for that.
Indigo Diablo
I've been using E/R, but I may swap to E/Mo.
Besides, smiting the undead in this new quests will be fun.
(Okay, that didn't answer the guy asking about secondaries. Go Elementalist. Fire kills things.)

Mesmer primary rocks face in Pre-Searing (and everywhere else) but I took him Post a long time ago, all I have for Perma Pre is a Wammo.
Also, to add on "making money" part, pick up everything that drops and sell everything that drops. If a blue drops and your inventory is full, look for a white in your Inventor and drop it for the blue, rinse and repeat.

browsing presearing.com you can learn a whole lot about pre if you are knew.
All the profession are pretty equal in pre, but you shouldn't choose one over the other because you think one is better. Your going to have to invest a lot of time in the character, you need to love them. Ranger is a beast at higher levels specially cause of nevermore bow, can 1-2 shot most mobs.
If you are really new to pre, i would do Charr at gate to lvl 8, then hunt the north til lvl 13-15, then worry about daily quests/mobs. And i would still setup a DL at night just for the hell of it. Hardly takes any time once you get it down

I have not seen this many people in Pre since the begginning of GW. The place is packed! Good tips for those visiting pre after so many years.
Indigo Diablo
Another tip, don't sear a stockpile of gold! It's worth more in pre, so trade it first.

I understand the allure of going /E. Firestorm is a powerful skill in pre-searing. I'm feeling tempted by /R and the ability to use a pet as well.
