Anyone else having friends in the Friends Panel show offline when they are online?
I have been PMed by friends and replied to them while they show offline. The initial thought was they are ignoring me, but then I would not be able to PM back.
Started with the last major update... may be related to the option to initially start your toon as offline/away/etc.
It's not all friends, just some... haven't noticed yet if it's the same ones consistently.

I've had the same issue also. I find that if you log on and have this problem the best way to fix it is to swap to a different character. Most every time that I've done that the problem is usually gone.

Same here, friends online not showing up as online and friends that are not online showing up as online. Also the ignored list not ignoring and not being able to put anyone on the ignored list.

The ignore list has also gone vegetable on most people too.

I have been finding friends, who are in my guild so i can see there online status, switch to away and my friend list says they are offline. Guild roster shows them as away, but my list shows them offline. It's a little odd.

i had this happen too. i find most of the time i have to open and close gw then switch chars i was last on to fix it. >< this is getting annoying tbh wish anet fix it soon.

It could, of course, been made worse by the recent update, but this problem is not new. It is possible for a player to lose contact with the friends server, while still being online. They will then not show up in your friends list until they reconnect to the friends server (usually after trying to open their own friends list).
