Anet and login announcements
Spiritz
Sorry if in wrong place - its early morning for me , but can someone please explain why anet has serious probs with login announcements.
Last week they announced eotn rep weekend when it was jq/fa and this weeks is slightly missleading - quite a lot of players were caught out last week.
"Special Items This Weekend
Starting at Noon Pacific (-8 GMT) this Friday through 11:59 PM Pacific (-7 GMT) on Thursday, March 17, you will be able to gather Shamrock Ale and Four-Leaf Clovers as random drops throughout all the lands of Tyria. Enjoy the weekend, and remember: think green! "
Now im uk and not usa but as far as im aware there is no time zone changes till end of this month in uk.
-8gmt start friday ( yup thats usual for this time of year ) and ends -7 gmt ( err suddenly we become -7 ??? )
Can anet please after almost 6 yrs of ( and maybe a few years of gw 2 ) please get your damn times and timezones sorted out - it confuses the hell out of non pst players and even some est players as well.Timezones may seem a small insignicant thing to pst players but to non pst players its a big thing as we dont like to miss events. And it would cut down the poor ppl who every event each year ask when its starting or has it started etc and then get abuse from other players for not knowing - if login says -7 and we are -8 actually how the hell are we meant to know which anets using lol.
So please anet - show a staff member ( or even google it - easy ) how to check login announcements for both correct events and correct start/end times.

Well you may not have a time change in the UK, but Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend in the US so the announcement is correct.
Maybe do a little research before complaining.

His complaint is still valid. While you may have a time change, the rest of the world doesn't and it confuses players. Also, with the Daylight Saving Time, you just change the clock, not the time zone, time zone is geographically set. If you are in GMT+1 (like me), with the daylight saving in effect you are still GMT+1 and the clock changes, you don't get GMT+2.

Nutshell: on Friday, it's PST which is GMT+8. The following Thursday it's PDT, which is GMT+7.
The fact that the UK may be at GMT or BST is irrelevant to the above statement - all times are relative to UCT (or GMT, if you like) - not to any other timezone.
Simples?
(Or, to quote wwp.greenwichmeantime.com - "USA, Canada Clocks spring forward to Daylight Saving Time on 13 March 2011 at 2am local time
UK / Europe: Clocks on Standard Time until 27 March 2011 01:00 GMT")

Americans tend to get it easier than non usa players - for last few years events even in summer were off by an hr.Anet advertised +7 gmt usually for whole year even when we were 8 hrs ahead.Unlike usa most players are used to having gmt +x like speed above - and they rely on everything being a few hrs over gmt - if gmt is wrong then their time for events is also wrong.
And i`ll bet after march when our clocks go bk the times will still be wrong - yes we do have daylight saving times in uk - maybe do a little research beforehand - touche i believe the phrase is lol.
Snograt you evil uk person lol - i forgot the event runs past sunday but ty for the reminder.
Its still gd cause for anet ( too late now but maybe gw2 ) have what could be ingame time thats standard regardless where you are in the world and set events from that clock but this has probably been mentioned numerous times in the past

Btw you do understand that clocks dont generally get changed till around 1am so im correct in stating sundays pst time +7 gmt is wrong as event ends 1hr before clocks change - it will still be +8gmt at end of event.

I vote we just get rid of the whole "Spring forward / Fall back" thing. It would make life much simpler.

I have written walls of text on this subject and euh, I'm too used up to start again.
Please anet, just use UTC. make it start at 2000 UTC and end at 1900 UTC and there will never be any problems with DST or whatever.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time
Look it up once and then you'll know for the rest of your life.
Saying blabla pacific and then slapping on a random "GMT" is unprofessional and confusing.
GMT is most often used by people who think it is the greenwich mean time and since greenwish is in the UK, it is UK time, which is incorrect and I lost money and time because the UK is GMT+1 in the summer and oh boy here it goes again...
Just use UTC.
No PST, no "pacific", no GMT.

Why?
i vote people pay attention to the time Anet says, and trust they aren't morons. After all, as was posted above, it is so easy to google it and see what it computes to for you, no matter where you live.

Anet using UTC would be more reasonable then nearly everyone recalculating timezones.

I vote for UCT too. That way, I don't even have to calculate the difference for 6 months of the year ^_^

I only check the wiki, since I have several machines in several languages, and It's a pain to check the times in PST, PDT, GMT, WTF, PMS, and WHATNOT.
One single universal time is better.
Anyone remembers @Swatch Internet Time?
Phantasy Star Online used that. It was funny to see people getting used to it.
But UTC would be good enough, and the Wiki uses it too.
Good for festivals.

Uh, the mass chaos would be entertaining, I suppose.
CrustyEarl
You think your confused, try living in one of the few states (Arizona) that doesn't have daylight Savings, while the rest of the country does :P Even though we don't change we have to be aware of it since everyone else does change.
