Horrible FPS

Ever since I got my GTX 580's in SLI, The FPS in GW is just horrific. Kamadan= below 40, when their is a big battle with smoke and stuff= 20fps, and when I map out= 10 fps. Why is this happening? I've tried the 266.58 drivers, 267.24 BETA (which I'm on now), and the previous 266.xx drivers. The cards are running stock (same problem even with overclock) but my CPU is overclocked (tested for stability in linx).

Specs:
i7 920 4.3ghz
GTX 580 SLI
Gigabyte UD3R x58 Rev.2
6GB RAM
Antec TPQ 1200w PSU

That is not normal. There is probably something wrong with your GPU. Do these:

1. Check to see if your GPU is overheating. Download an app called Everest.
2. Repair or re-download the Gw.dat file. (Repair: -repair). To re-download, delete C:\Program Files\Guild Wars. Then go to www.guildwars.com/download and download everything again.
3. Update all system components to the latest driver/firmware version.
4. Try to run Game Booster before running Guild Wars. Download link is found at Google.

Try those steps and report back.

Ok I think I found out why. When I disable SLI and use only 1 card, I get 60FPS no matter what but in SLI I get FPS drops. Still though I don't want to leave SLI disabled

GW isn't natively SLI supported. That is your issue. Yes Nvidia has a sli profile for GW, but when you email the support team for GW, they will tell you to run it without SLI enabled. That is your problem. I've got the same issue and I'm running a slightly more powered rig.

I run a couple of Geforce 7600 GS cards in an SLi configuration and rarely drop below 60 FPS, and honestly in GW anything much over that is a waste in my opinion since 60 FPS seems to be about the threshold for fluidity in the models, at least to my eye. My recommendation is to try and alter some of your in game settings. I play in windowed mode with my interface set to normal Anti Aliasing set to 4x. Terrain is high. Texture is high. Reflections is All. Shadow quality is medium. Shading is high. I have all three boxes ticked. Maybe try settings similar to that and see if your FPS improves.

I'm running quad sli. You can set how many gpu's you want to use in the nvidia control panel for a game, but I find that just turning sli off its a better solution. Besides 1 of your 580's should be enough for gw considering its a 5 year old game. I know 1 of mine works just fine. Besides it only takes what 30 seconds max to re-enable sli if you plan on playing other games.

Keep SLI off for Guild Wars, it doesn't like it.

Guild Wars is also sensitive to CPU overclocking. Return your CPU to stock speed and see if your FPS improves.

When GW first came out, I tried running it with two 7900GTXs in SLi mode. Frame rate was fine, but GW would regularly and randomly lock up anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes into the game. (Don't ask me about my very first Forgemaster run....that particular lockup occurred immediately after finishing the quest that spawns the Forgemaster! ) It took me a while to figure out what the problem was....yep, SLi. As soon as I took the cards out of SLi mode and ran on a single card, voila! no more lockups. As others have said...GW hates SLi. If you have it working, great, but I wouldn't try it again with a pair of 10-foot GPUs. I'm currently running with an old 9800GTX+ at max graphics settings and it runs just fine.

BTW, 60FPS is all you'll ever get if V-Sync is on with most displays. If I turn off V-Sync, I get anywhere from 100-175 FPS. Doesn't matter though...if the display is only capable of 60Hz refresh rate, any frames over 60 will be dropped by the display and so are worthless except for purposes of epeen.

I've got my cpu Oc'd and it doesn't seen to have any effect on GW at all.

WHew, you should be getting MUCH better fps. I'm running a 930, 6 gig ram and a GTX275 and pretty much lock at 60fps (limiter is on)

Take to the card manufacturer for advice.
