ArenaNet / NCsoft donation for Japan
Hells Fury
ArenaNet would like to join NCsoft in sending its condolences to the victims and people of Japan. NCsoft will donate 500 million Yen (approx 4.5 million Euros/3.9 million GBP/6.3 million USD) to restoration of damages in the region. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan.
I'm simply amazed .

What an amazing thing, well done AreaNet / NCSoft.
I wish you would have given us players the chance to join in the effort, to show our support as a community.

That is why we love you Anet.... you are Great!

If i understand it correctly, ANet has nothing to do with it.
Even though it's probably more an extensive self-promotion, it's still a nice gesture.

They could have donated a 10% of that sum and still gain the same kind of "self-promotion", so I'm sure they have their hearts in the right place. An entire months of revenue, that's no small potato.

*applause* Nice to see.

The help is really needed, this is wonderfull gesture.

I'm sure the heads of each game and company that NCsoft is over had some sort of input on the matter.
Even if not, since NCsoft is the publisher some small percent of the money they sent can be attributed to sales of GuildWars.

If Anet could somehow make a link in the IG store to donate directly, i would bet they would get allot of support from the community.
Giving a reward that doesnt effect gameplay like past festival hats or the 5th year storage slot would increase the donations further, although shouldnt be needed

I love how people are astonished when big coorporations help contribute to the general wellbeing of humanity, not just here on guru, but in real life aswell. Obviously it's a nice gesture, but with the redicilous profits multinational make you shouldn't be expecting anything less.
But hey, look at me dishing out society criticism again, zzz.

Hm..
Microsoft $100,000
NCSoft $6,300,000
Quite a big difference, no wonder we're amazed

If it wasn't for the Japanese, we would be playing crap like graphic adventures and sports games, instead addictive platformers, action games and RPGs.
It's only logical and natural to give back after all they have done for the gaming world.

I'd say release a Japanese mini into the store we could buy so we all can donate

That is awesome.
Is it true Microsoft only gave $100,000? Microsoft probably makes like $100,000 a minute...
Anyway, great publicity for NCSoft, plus Japan really needs all the help they can get.

In the article on NCsoft, they state that the amount is equal to a month's worth of sales.

Unfortunately, if the Japanese and the world at large cannot stop the reactor from melting down, there may well be an exodus of millions of Japanese refugees.
I wonder if there will be an "adopt-a-family" charity to temporarily house such refugees? Its not like Chernobyl where the surrounding areas were largely sparsely populated rural countryside, plus if one or two reactors go, the other four will follow suit.
Meh, I guess I'm probably being paranoid, too much CNN...

Then again, doing a good deed for the wrong reason doesn't change the fact that people are getting helped. I just hope this all goes to humanitarian aid and not the government.

Dang, that's a lot of money. I really hope the people over there get something of the cake one way or the other.

They can do it for as selfless reasons they want, as long as that money will go to Japan relief aid.

oreilly? compare that with the millions of business' around the planet giving shitall...
MS/employees actually has a very good charitable donation history, iirc something like $2.6 billion over the last 25 years unlike other superlarge tech firms
anyway gg anet/ms and everyone who gives to charity.

I'm a cynic, but I believe NCSoft is only doing this due to their financial investment for GW2 and other games in Japan. They're hoping for a future return on this "help" for Japan.

I knew Bill Gates is a philanthropist. But we all know M$ can do much much better than $100,000.
