I suppose, NCSoft donated 6.5mil, but everything helps.

NCSoft is already donating over 6 million dollars and you shouldn't need a shiny reward as motivation to help a struggling country. Why not give money to the red cross or another organization that is currently accepting donations?
Knowing that you did something to help those in need isn't reward enough? :/

I don't seem to recall any initiatives requesting Anet to provide aid for Haitian victims of last year's earthquake.
Cuilan
There's nothing stopping people from donating if they want to donate.
Also, people should donate because they want to and not because of what they get in return.

I believe this is a rally good idea, not because of the stuff we get in return, but because it will raise the awareness of the people about the situation and it may urge more to help.

but yea sure why not.. i'd like to give my money to help them.. but the redcross is so in-efficient with its money.

b/c only around 10% of the money doanted to help haiti has been used by the redcross.. thats a good reason.

NCSoft is already donating $6,300,000. While that is hardly enough money to cover the damage, it's still a lot of money. Where exactly do you think they got that money? Us. We purchased games and other items from their store and now they are donating part of their profits. I seriously doubt 100% of the profits from selling a special item in the NCSoft store would go to Japan.
It makes me a little sad when I see people that supposedly want to help but at the same time want a reward for doing so. Do you guys actually want to help Japan or do you just want a chance to get a limited edition item?

And frankly Japan is a lot more economically stable than Haiti.
Kojima
NCsoft already done their part. If we want to do ours, we can do it through other means. Frankly, there are lots of countries in dire need for support. It is not easy to help every country.

Anet should temporarily disable the following skills from all Japanese servers:
Earthquake
Aftershock
Churning Earth
Radiation Field
Along with a total temp ban on all Water Magic.
Problem solved.

Arenanet supported the ingame fundraiser done by Gamer's Giving Back. They donated over 40 prizes to it of Autographed Guild Wars 2 material to help raise money for people in Haiti.
I agree with the people who are saying..why not just take the intiative to go help out or donate on your own. I think its really awful to see people "Wanting to get something out of it" before they actually will consider helping out others in need....awful.

As stated in previous topics. Check out Gw-en.com. Guild Wars has a community based group that holds fundraisers/donations as well as entertainment such as parties and hostings of events so that we all can unite and work together.
A few websites you should check out.
Guildmag.com
Talktyria.net
Guildwarsguru.com
Crossingtyria.com
Massively.com
Gw-en.com
and so many more that are working with Gamers Giving Back

It can be found there and you can see the up coming events that we will be hosting/participating in not only in Guildwars 1 but in GW2.....
Check it out it's worth a shot see what's happening in the community already.

One thing that drives me nuts... Someone says "Where was so and so when this place needed help?" In that case, for the record they were there, supporting organizations. But the part that drives me nuts is.... Even if they WERE NOT there, why can't they start?
Everything that exists was created one way or another, whether it's "early", "on time", or "late".

Japan, on the other hand, economically matters a lot to NCSoft and the games they plan to market there in the future. Unfortunately, that tends to be the way the world works.
But NCSoft did stuff for both, so it's all good and we should just leave it at that.

I'd like to see you guys being affected by what happened to Japan and then laugh about banning aftershock and water magic. Also, raise awareness? really? when everything you see on the main pages of yahoo and youtube are "donate to the japan catastrophies" ? This thread is a joke and it's been turned into a "ban aftershock LULWUT?" thread. Good job

So much misplaced optimism in this thread lol. Lemming is completely correct with his Haiti reference if you ask me. The only reason NCSoft supports Japan is because it's a huge market for them. Don't be blinded by altruism guys. The 6,3 mill they invested was to ensure that things would be rebuilt faster. Also, they will get it back -easily- because now, Japanese people will remember their donation and will be more likely to buy stuff from them. Psychological marketing.
Also, Japan is a pretty solid country and has enough big palls in the world to get over it. Countries like Haiti -where, if you look at the situation now, still nothing has changed- get attention a couple weeks, and are then completely forgotten and left in the dumpster to get over it themselves, which they can't. I voted no -obviously- because adding such a feature is redundant and the only thing it will do is stroke people's egos. "I'm so cool cause I helped a country in need, go me!".

Right here right now, Japan is getting help with a huge contribution from NCSoft. Reasons are irrelevant as long as people's lives are saved. If Haiti didn't receive same amount of support, I'm sorry for them although I know they did receive a lot of support from other sources.
Right now.. I'm just happy that people in need will receive help.

So what if they have self-interests in this, it's a private company and they can do as they like. Would it be better they would not donate at all? Or are you asking that they will become a charity organization and donate to everyone in need?

I am sorry that I am such a cynic, I am just like that. I think charity is awesome -I give to charity myself and I'm not even 18 yet- but the way people act towards charity is ridiculous. They always depict themselves as being so generous and so awesome when they pretend to care about the next big disaster in the world, whilst they actually enjoy stuff like that.

Well since this is a Guild Wars related website and NCSoft is Guild Wars related, it's not so surprising is it? They might have donated partly/greatly/purely for selfish reasons but in the end, if it helps people then who are we to argue about it.
Perhaps it will encourage other companies to do similar, and not to Japan but to any country they feel an affiliation too that might be in need of that time.
