What's in your wallet...er...backpack?
TheGizzy
I'm in a questioning mood this morning. LOL
Getting ready to get my Heavy Pack in another day or two, thanks to the new ZV. Yay! And that (along with some musings about builds in the other thread I just started) got me thinking about the things I carry with me when I'm out and about in the world...
What things do you pretty much always take with you somewhere in your backpacks when you're playing? Which pack do you keep those things in? Why do you take those specific things with you?
In my Light equipment pack, I keep my various headpieces (elementalist) and whatever weapons I have assigned to weapon slots. I keep the headpieces on me primarily because it frees up room in my Xunlai storage, and since it is equipment, and the pack is limited to equipment only, I just keep them there. Once I get my Heavy pack, I'll probably move my Geomancer amor in there as well. That'll still leave me about 6 slots for extra weapons/armor I pick up while out & about.
In my 2nd 10-slot bag (it's a charr bag), I pretty much always have Lockpicks, whatever Storybook I need for the mission I'm doing - when applicable, some DP removal, some Morale boosters, Summoning Stones, Superior ID & Salvage... and my Kunny - just because I like popping it out when the mood strikes. LOL I used to also carry appropriate keys, but I play mostly in HM now, and even if I'm in NM, my % is high enough that it's nearly a sure thing I'll keep the pick on an NM chest...helps my Lucky title.
So...what's in your packs?

My ssin is the only one with a Heavy Pack but that's to carry her purdy perma shields collecting for when I'm chest running or in DoA etc. My ssin uses 3 sets of armor: 1 for daggers, when doing normal PvE, 1 for chest running vermin with slashing insignias and 1 normal perma armor with Blessed insignias. Then there are her daggers, a flatbow for pulling and the shields are:
-Outcast +10vDemons -2ench
-Zodiac +10vFire -2ench
-Gothic +10vOgres -2ench
-Gothic +10vPlants -2ench
-Gloom +10vPiercing -2ench
-Ornate +10vEarth -2ench
-Outcast +10vFire -2ench (I know, it's a double, but I want to be able to pick skins whenever I'm in the mood^^)
-Celestial +10vSlashing -2ench
My mesmers medium pack -don't know how it's called, it's got 10 slots- yields all her headpieces and her different 40/40 sets and a longbow for pulling.
Oh, I thought only equip packs? Well in that case: Edit:
All charrs have (in this order) Lockpicks, Salv Kit, Id kit in the first 3 slots of backpack. When in DoA, my ssin gets personal cons + gems + cons (if i'm providing) on top of that. Also, rez scrolls.
my ele (when I bother to emo, which has been at least 3 months) mesmer and monk just take rezscrolls, red/blue rocks and gems with them in DoA.
For general PvE, I should take summoning stones, but I often forget them, so rarely ever use em + books when doing something.

Depending on the toon, most of my inventory is taken up with weapons and armor. On top of that there are DP removers, ID, Salvage kits and summoning stones.
The toons I have the most armor on, I have a Heavy Back Pack, so that helps, but I do like to collect weapons. At the most I'll have about 30 open slots, at the least I'll have about 15 open slots in inventory.
lol, when i go out I have to off load some weapons into storage so I have room for drops!

besides armor and alt weapons, most of my kids have an id kit and salvage, usually some kind of dp removal (candy canes) a lockpick and some useless summoning stones...apart from that a costume or mini pet they are attached to might also be there. (these are the kids that get play time---mules are another story)
Jesuve
On my assassin I just have my headgears (shadow arts and dagger mastery) and my daggers and staff (should get a defensive set though) + the story books (yeah, I'm carrying all of them, because otherwise I would just forget to pick them) and required items for the quests that I haven't done yet.

obastable
ID/Salvage are the 2 first slots on every char, then 1 eq. pack for whatever strikes me, usually a bow for pulling and the rest ends up holding weapon drops, whatever stones and other consumables i'm trying to get rid of, some lockpicks, and 1 non-sellable divider item all go in the last 10 slot bag.

I keep a few things with me.
An I.D. and Salvage kit.
A mini pet.
My 3 staves, a shield, spear, and a longbow.
For some reason, I keep my Grim Cesta with me.
My farming armor.
A few summoning stones.
A bit of rock candy.
Before the changes to the drunkard title, I used to carry a keg with me.

All my characters have at least 3 sets of elite armor and more than 5 weapons so I put as many of those in my 10-slot bag and a Heavy Equipment Pack (thank goodness I have one of them for every character). If I'm doing a mission/dungeon then I'll get the appropriate handbook, and if I'm doing something difficult then I'll get some DP removal. I use my summoning stones as soon as I get them and I never bring any id kits, salvaging kits, lockpicks, nor minipets.
lol, me too XD

My Dervish is the one I play the most, so yeah.
Main backpack window: ID and salvage kits, dungeon book (because I still haven't finished them all), some lockpicks, and my mini bunnies and EL Cottontail (why do I carry them with me? No reason, really, just like to keep them with me).
Second-to-last bag carries DP removal/morale boost stuff in the last two slots of each row. I've got some clovers, honeycomb, candy canes, and the last of my pumpkin cookies right now.
And then my large equipment bag carries two of my other armors, which have to be places in precise order (headset, chest, gloves, leggings, shoes), as well as the weapons I currently have equipped.

All characters:
- Books. I never fill a book with entries that are completed. So when a character has done everything in a campaign they won't have books for it.
- When I go out, lockpicks, and maybe other consumables.
- 5 of my characters have an incubator filled and ready to use. All of them had one, but I already made 5. But I'm too lazy to go down there and cook them. I suppose I'll do one or two the next time it's ZB for the Iron Forgeman. If anyone wants a Black Moa Chick, I accept reservations, XD.
- Weapons that don't fit in the equipment pack.
- Some have dyed costumes.
- Thunderfist's knuckles with at least a Brawn over brains inscription.
- Martial professions: At least one sundering weapon, one furious, one zealous, one vampiric and one with each of the 4 elemental damages. Other upgrades depend on profession.
- Caster professions: At least one weapon linked to each of their primary attributes. Upgrades depend on profession.
And in the equipment pack (slots in parenthesis):
- Warrior (20): Lots of weapons, 3 gauntlets with runes for hammer, sword and axe mastery. Still not enough room. I'd need over 24 slots for all of them, so many end up in the inventory. All dyed Orange+red.
- Ranger (20): Lots of bows. Several masks. Gloves and mask with +3 expertise and wilsderness survival I use when I go trapper. 'Leafy' gear: Oaken Aegis, Eldritch staff, Briar Blade, Briarwood Scythe, Guardian Branch, etc.. all dyed with different combinations of green, brown and yellow.
- Monk (10): 55set I never use. Several head tattos.
- Necromancer (10). MM armor set. Several Istani scar patterns. Only black or silver+gray gear.
- Mesmer (15). Several alternate armor sets and masks. dyed with combinations of pruple+pink.
- Elementalist(20): Several alternate armor sets and spectacles. All dyed gold. (Gold is REALLY hard to get in some sets)
- Ritualist(10): Restoration armor set.
- Assassin(15): Lots of daggers. Some other weapons Opressor scythe, Elswyth's Longbow. All dyed black or purple+blue.
- Dervish(10). Several scythes, and an alternate armor set. All dyed brown.
- Paragon (5). Several crests. Yellow + brown dyed when possible.
I' aiming for 10 Heavy Equipment packs.
I doubt I'll get that before GW2 release, but well, I'll go for it anyways. Personal goals and all that stuff.

On all of my characters the first two slots of the backpack are a salvage kit and an ID kit.
My necro sees the most playtime. About half of her backpack is taken up by kits, lockpicks/keys, summoning stones, weapons, and whatever consumables I feel the need to carry. I usually manage to keep her belt pouch and the first 10-slot bag empty for drops. The second bag is full of costumes (I dyed them and I don't feel like redying them), headgear, her mini Aatxe (love him to pieces), and whatever storybooks I need to fill. She's working on a heavy pack, but her current light equip pack has two changes of armor (55 and infused) and an extra weapon set.
Neither do I, but since I went through the trouble of getting a Destroyer longbow for my HoM, I make my necro use it for pulling anyway. XD

Only one? I always carry a stack on my mesmer. (I am actually serious ) Funny thing, they show up as "250 Rune of DOOM" not "Runes"^^ Also, when you go get new ones, the guy always says "Make sure not to lose this one, I don't have an infinite supply of them"

Each character has one or two armor sets in the equipment pack, as I simply do not have the space in storage for all my sets.
Superior ID & Salvage on all.
I'll take picks and cons out of storage as needed.
Each character carries all of their weapons/shields/staves/offhands.
I try to keep as many of the Handbooks in storage as possible, but most of my characters drag 'em along with them wherever they go.
The last bag and equipment pack are full on all my characters. The first bag is often full or close to it. Backpack & pouch are for drops.

Blessed/Tormentor's/Dreadnought armor
Survivor armor (For when playing with SY! spam in team) ... mesmer doesn't have any other decent set unless running Keystone
MM/Pyro/Disciple's/Sentinel's --> this set usually is kept in storage, but sometimes I keep extra sets for no reason
Headgears with minor/superior (for swapping if DP/boss fight)
20hsr/hct Wand + focus
+15e/-1 energy regen wintergreen wand (or in case of necro some other skin...Platinum wand I think) for high swap
+15e/-1 energy focus (for monk only, since monk needs 2 energy sets in case of dire emergency)
Spear of Defense, Shield of Fortitude or -2 enchanted and +10 vs type
Spear of Enchanting (monk/ele)
Zealous Spear of Defense with 10% HCT (for ele "energy management")
Bag 2
Expert Salvage/Superior Salvage if extra long (i.e. caravan VQ)
Merch summoning stone
Regular salvage
Superior ID kit
Rainbow CCs for VQing
Lockpicks
1-3 Minis (depends on char)
Why I hate playing warrior is the amount of swaps you need to carry around. You need an ele weapon x3, vamp/furious x3, zealous x3, longbow. I have multiple sets of weapons, some with defense and some with fortitude so it is even worse.

Between the Trilogy edition and EotN, I'm running 8 characters who usually have a standard backpack and 10-slot bag each; their packs are usually full except for about a half-dozen slots, while the Xunlai storage is usually full except for one slot. I keep about 8 or 10 weapons in Xunlai storage until I have a character who can use them best -- they're mostly hammers at this point, because my warriors are using swords or axes more often. Each character has some holiday tonics or other goods that I no longer have room in storage for, plus weapons that I can't bring myself to get rid of yet; I'm kind of a packrat in this game and unwilling to buy extra Xunlai panes.

Wow, how do people go out into explorable areas with their bags stuffed to the brim with stuff?

Anyways, for me:
Backpack: ID kit and Salvage kit
Bottom Bag: lockpicks, Elite Luxon mask from a friend who doesn't play anymore, mini Vizu (My favorite mini who never leaves my inventory), and rez scrolls if I'm doing UW/FoW/etc without a rez, otherwise rez shrines exist for a reason. I'll throw in some merch stones if I'm farming something like vaettirs.
Heavy Equip Pack: 3 armor sets that I randomly threw in to free up some storage space (usually vabbi [dagger armor], obby [higher energy dagger armor] and elite luxon [blessed perma armor]); platinum longbow for pulling, couple pairs of daggers that I don't use to free up space, an astral perma staff that rarely sees action and a channeling torm staff for when I feel like lazy farming items for Nicholas with SoS. I also have a tormented shield equiped with every item to again free up space.
I also always leave town with exactly 1k on me. I used to go with 0 until people kept asking me to send (guest) invites and I wouldn't have enough money, so I started doing that.

My warr is the only one with a heavy pack and I've got 3 sets of armor plus his other weapons in it. My other chars just put their armor in their 5-10 slot bags and whatever space is left over is for their weapon sets.

Since I'm REALLY just only trying to get to 50/50 and GWAMM on my ranger, I try to pack a little light.
All three of my bags are normally empty, with my 10 slot equipment bag having a flatbow for pulling, a tormented shield+firey dragon sword as defense set, and an oppressor sword and shield for vaettir farming.
My main backpack usually has my bronze, silver, and gold zaishen coins, merchant and mysterious summoning stones, several stacks of tonics (takes so long to use them up), lockpicks, any personal cons I may have, a few elite tomes I eventually plan on selling, random gemstones, war supplies, ID kit, and Salvage kit. All other space is used for any items I find
In general, I keep all armor sets in my storage, along with minis, other tomes, and miscellaneous other items.
