giant head staute in sparkfly swamp

i found this head statue in sparkfly swamp and wondered if anyone new who it was made by?, for what purpose? and who is it?

There was a thread with this before I think. Those statues are all over the area, and at least one of them even has eyes that follow you around (not in the optical illusion "It looks like they're following me" sense, but actually move from side to side). But I dont think anyone actually linked them to anything significant.

They're found throughout the Tarnished Coast-designed area - I know there's some in Riven Earth (waterfall heads) and some in Alcazia Tangle (they're the ones with the following eyes). Not sure if there are any elsewhere. There's also one off of the coast of the swamp.

is nothing else known about them apart from there is a few of them?

Sadly, that's the case. Same goes for a lot of random structures throughout GW1 (especially Prophecies and EN - EN mainly due to how rushed it was and that it has a few Utopia things mushed in).
